🪲creepy crawly 🪲
Dr Pip saw the gorgeous 12 week of Jedda this week, who had very itchy ears.
A quick swab of her ears and a look under the microscope discovered that she had ear mites!

Grass seed season is here!
GRASS SEED season is here! Watch Dr. Michael remove a grass seed from big Bacchus' ear canal. This sometimes requires sedation to safely remove the seed before it damages the delicate ear drum. Everyday we are presented with dogs who have grass seeds either in their ear canals, in between their toes or stuck, burrowed under their skin. These annoying seeds are everywhere and once they pierce the skin they behave as if they were moving through soil. Please check your dog's coat and in between every digit on every paw to avoid a painful situation and a vet visit. If your dog starts shaking its head furiously on walk or starts to lick at an abscessed area on their paw it could be a grass seed that you can't see. If in doubt, gives us a call and we can help. 9227 7167. #grassseedsanddogs #northperthcommunity #northperthvets #petsofperth #grassseedseason #grassseedseverywhere

Frida and her Joints
Frida is a 10 month old German Shepherd with severe hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia. Frida is happy and living a comfortable life with her loving and dedicated owners. She receives Meloxicam, an anti-inflammatory and ANTINOL, a concentrated green-lipped mussell extract. She may need a total hip replacement when she is older but for now, we are managing her disease well and she is not showing any signs of discomfort or slowing down. Frida is an amazing pup! See the comments to view her radiographs.
I don't know why, I cannot explain it, but some euthanasias are harder than others. I know the pain, the loss, the heart ache that the owner is feeling because I've said goodbye to my own precious pets. For me, helping an owner say goodbye to their elderly dog or cat, who has terminal disease, feels like the last kind gift I can give that animal. But, every time, it is still hard to see the life leave the body and the mement my stethoscope hears the last heart beat, it still grabs me and a hard lump hits my throat when I say "he's gone"! It will never be easy but it was the kind option for Cricket last month, and Sprocket yesterday; it was the only option for Lucy today and it meant that last week Barney did not suffer even one day. And after it is done there is a calm, final and comforting thought that this old dog or cat was so loved, so well cared for and lived the best life a dog or cat can have.
