🌟 Meet Luna, our fierce little superstar! 🌟

This girl had major surgery —and here she is, grinning like she’s just won the lottery (or a really big treat jar). She’s feeling so good, in fact, that it’s a struggle to keep her on bedrest. Luna’s ready to get back to living her best life, and she’s not letting a little thing like surgery slow her down! 😆💪

Here’s to Luna’s unstoppable spirit! Let’s show her some love and send all the “stay calm” vibes we can—she’s going to need them! 😉

Meet Gino, our 77-kilo bundle of love and confidence! He might be on the larger than life side, but he’s got every reason to strut—because here at North Perth Vet, we love all animal's no matter if they are big, small, fluffy, or sleek, all pets deserve to feel healthy, happy, and loved (and maybe demand a little extra lap space, right, Gino?).

Meet Lily, the most gentle of souls.
This gorgeous 12 year old girl underwent major surgery last week with Dr Lucy to remove her really large spleen which had tripled in size to about the size of a volleyball (weighing in at 3kg).

Lily’s owners noticed her swollen abdomen recently, so she had some X-rays and an ultrasound which were suggestive of a malignant tumour.

The surgery was challenging and complex and required all hands on deck, literally (thanks to nurses Sarah M for scrubbing in and Shaniah for monitoring her anaesthetic).

Her results are back from the lab and Dr Lucy was over the moon to report that it has come back benign, despite the spleen’s concerning appearance.

Without surgery, Lily was a ticking time bomb for a life-threatening bleed, as well as being really uncomfortable.

Lily is doing really well now during her recovery and we are all overjoyed by such a positive result. 🐾 🩺

Our incredible nurse Shaniah takes her job very seriously, but sometimes we all need to take a moment to relax and enjoy the playful side of what we do 🐾💛. While providing the best care for our patients is always our top priority, it's important to remember the joy and love that animals bring into our lives.

Here’s Shaniah sharing a fun moment with one of our adorable patients. After all, who could resist a quick cuddle and photo op with this sweet face? 😍🐕

**🐾 Important Reminder for Our Pet Parents! 🐾**

At North Perth Vet Clinic, your pet’s health and safety are our top priorities. While we understand how exciting it can be for your dog to see other furry friends during visits, we want to remind everyone of the potential risks associated with letting dogs socialize in the clinic.

**Why is this important?**
- **Health Risks:** Even though we take every precaution, clinics can be places where various germs and viruses are present. Some dogs might be carrying contagious illnesses without showing symptoms yet.
- **Stress and Anxiety:** Not all dogs feel comfortable or safe around other animals, especially in an unfamiliar environment like a vet clinic. This can lead to stress, fear, or even aggression.
- **Unexpected Behaviors:** Even the friendliest dogs can react unpredictably when they’re scared, anxious, or in pain. A seemingly harmless interaction can quickly turn into a stressful situation for both pets and owners.

**What can you do?**
- **Keep Your Dog on a Short Leash:** This helps maintain control and reduces the chance of unexpected encounters.
- **Avoid Direct Contact:** Please refrain from allowing your dog to approach other animals, no matter how friendly they may seem.
- **Use Our Waiting Area Wisely:** We have a designated area where you can keep your pet calm and focused on you while waiting for your appointment.

Thank you for helping us keep our clinic a safe and stress-free environment for all our patients and staff!
If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to ask our team.

Stay safe, and see you at your next visit! 🐕❤️

A very important message from Foothills animal hospital.

As a vet clinic, we often see pets in their most stressed, unwell and vulnerable states.

Staff and client safety is always our top priority when treating your pets 🫶🏼

We wish the staff at Foothills a speedy recovery! 🐾

📣 IMPORTANT SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT 📣

At Foothills Animal Hospital, we love caring for your pets and we strive to always provide a safe working environment.

We place the safety of our valued clients and their pets alongside with our team as our highest priority.

We sadly had a traumatic incident last week, where two of our team members, a Veterinarian and a Nurse, suffered a severe and unprovoked dog attack, one of them requiring emergency surgery for a broken bone. They were fortunate to receive excellent medical care and are now thankfully recovering, however, this incident has highlighted again the importance of our safety.

At our hospital we help many large, unsociable and aggressive dogs that present a danger to our team. These dogs often do not venture outside their properties, nor do they encounter other dogs or people. It is important for the owners of these dogs to understand the stress a vet visit can cause. Due to the unpredictable nature of our interactions, we need the Owners of these pets to have full control of their animals while visiting our hospital including the carpark and particularly in the small confines of their consult room where a pet is more likely to feel trapped and stressed.

With this in mind we would like to share our hospital guidelines to help minimise the risks associated with working with animals.

• Please understand the risks we take at work and never be dismissive of a team member that is careful around your pet, until we know your pet, we might be cautious and that is ok.

• Never dismiss a Vet or a Nurse that is cautious around your pet, they might have had a traumatic experience in the past.

• When making an appointment, please advise if you have any concerns about your pet’s past behaviour and experience at home or in a public setting. We will tailor your pet’s care to ensure they feel comfortable and at ease.

• A friendly pet can behave very differently at the vets as fear overrides their trust.

• Please warn us if a pet is likely to bite or has snapped in the past.

• We ask that you bring all dogs likely to bite muzzzled, and to call ahead so that we can plan your visit in the safest manner.

• Chat to our team about calming pills for your pets to reduce their fear and make our interactions safer.

• Help us by always having your pet on a leash whilst at our hospital or safely contained in a pet carrier.

• Always present your pet with the most capable handler and never send a pet to the hospital with a minor.

• Our team will always advocate for your pet. If at any time during your visit with us, a team member advises that we need to stop what we are doing, please understand that this is in the best interests of your pet.

• If you fail to disclose the risk, you are putting our team directly in harm’s way and can be held responsible.

Our team are trained to handle pets with compassion, aiming for a fear-free experience that fosters a positive and reassuring atmosphere. We implement various measures to provide a high standard of care whilst keeping our patients’ stress levels to a minimum.

PLEASE HELP KEEP OUR TEAM SAFE SO THAT WE CAN BE AVAILABLE TO KEEP CARING FOR YOUR TREASURED PETS.

Thank you,
Foothills Animal Hospital 🐾

🌟 Meet Lily, our brave little Cocker Spaniel! 🌟

Lily recently came to us with some tummy troubles, and after a thorough examination, we discovered she had swallowed something she shouldn’t have. Our skilled team performed an exploratory laparotomy to safely remove the foreign object. We're happy to report that Lily is now on the road to recovery and feeling much better!

We’re so proud of how strong Lily has been through it all. A big thank you to her family for trusting us with her care. Remember, if your pet ever gets into something they shouldn’t, we’re here to help! 🐾
