With 30 years of equine experience in all disciplines and levels, I have the knowledge to further your training. With 5 horses taken through the ranks to FEI eventing, ridden at FEI Dressage, State level show horse, retraining 'broken' horses, pre-trained racehorses and numerous other disciplines. I am a full time coach and trainer, I have the skills to help most riders reach their long term and s

hort term goals. I teach an array of ages and levels and love seeing people progress. I help mentally and physically prepare horse and rider for competitions and can be present at competitions for a fee. Give me a call to organise a lesson or some work with your horse :) 0438054406

When someone leaves a comments or a like here, I often click on their name to see their riding images on their page. I do this to keep track of what today's typical riding looks like. I see all kinds of riding. Some images and videos show very good balanced riding. What seems to be a common riding flaw that I see recently is with head position. So many riders post pictures of their riding with their eyes looking down. This might seem a minor issue, but it is not.

When your eyes are down, your horse can feel that your balance is forward, more over the forehand. This will put your horse onto their forehand. When your eyes go down, your head that weighs 15 pounds (7 kg) goes down and forward, and usually your shoulders fall forward as well. The fact that your head is up high at the end of an effective lever that is your upper body, multiplies the forward weight that you place over your horse's shoulders.

The negative effects this has on your horse show up in several ways. It makes both upward and downward transitions more difficult for your horse. This is because Horses need to push off or reach under with their hind, and you have shifted their balance off their hind. Lead changes become more difficult for the same reason.

Worst of all for riders, looking down makes it more difficult to develop "feel". I briefly had an argumentative student who insisted on looking down. She would argue with me when I said "eyes up", saying "I like to see what my horse is doing". I'd explain that with eyes up you can feel what your horse is doing and that makes all the difference.

If you look down when riding, just stop doing that. If you have to look down, move your eyeballs, not your head. If you do this, many improvements will follow. You will sit the canter better because your head and neck position will no longer interfere with your hips swinging to the 1-2-3 beat of the canter. "Eyes up". It's simple and fixes a lot of things.

Coaching riders is for the most part, a privilege. Sometimes though, it can feel like a ton weight to carry. Coaches don’t just help you to learn and develop in the saddle. Coaches have to understand your history, and that of your horse. Coaches have to quickly identify the right language to use to best communicate with you. Coaches have to work out from the start if you are a rider who needs to be coaxed, or pushed, or helped to take tiny steps with your hand held. Coaches have to advocate for the horse, and be aware of his responses, his management, his tack, his emotional and psychological climate, and his overall needs at all times. Coaches often have to take a horse and a rider who do not understand one another, and find a way to break down those barriers. Coaches have to manage expectations, and they have to be able to change the plan at a moments notice. Coaches have to have twenty different ways to solve each individual issue or challenge, and they have to help you and your horse to develop and to grow in both skill and confidence.
Coaches have to stand out in all weathers to earn their wage. They have to remain positive and encouraging, no matter what else is going on in their lives at the time. Coaches have to be reasonable, flexible and accountable, and they work harder for less money than most.

If you have a good coach, make sure you tell them sometimes that you appreciate their time, their support, and their commitment. It’s only a few words for you, but you might just make your coach’s week-and a reminder of why we do this job is always appreciated.

Shame on you Equestrian Australia we all support you Shane Rose

Copy and paste encouraged .

Dear Equestrian Australia,

I am writing to express my concern regarding the recent suspension of Shane Rose from all EA competitions and events following his participation in the fancy dress competition at the Wallaby Hill Extravaganza.

It has come to my attention that Shane Rose has been suspended pending a review of the incident, wherein he wore three different costumes during the fancy dress competition. While I understand that EA has received a complaint regarding his attire, I believe that the suspension is unwarranted and disproportionate to the alleged offense.

Fancy dress competitions are traditionally lighthearted events aimed at providing entertainment for participants and spectators alike. The absence of specific rules or guidelines regarding attire in such competitions underscores the inherent spirit of creativity and fun. As such, Shane Rose's participation in the fancy dress competition should be viewed within this context, and any perceived offense should be taken in the spirit of good humor and sportsmanship.

Furthermore, Shane Rose has issued a sincere apology to anyone who may have been offended by his attire, emphasizing that it was never his intention to cause offense. His willingness to take responsibility for his actions and refrain from participating in similar events in the future demonstrates his commitment to upholding the values of respect and integrity within the equestrian community.

I urge Equestrian Australia to reconsider Shane Rose's suspension and to overturn it pending the outcome of the review. Punishing him for participating in a traditional and harmless aspect of equestrian culture sends the wrong message and detracts from the spirit of inclusivity and enjoyment that should define our sport.

I trust that EA will take this matter seriously and act in a fair and just manner. Thank you for your attention to this important issue.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

I know the way the sport works . And I watch it grow and change. I see now so many of the great Grand Prix riders acquiring ready made GP horses at the very last minute just in time to secure a ride for the Paris Olympics. I see that this is the way the ‘sport’ is moving forward .
I also know that it is important to stay at the front of the curve of progress…….
And yet …… still, I cannot get past the incredibly rewarding and life changing experience of growing together with your horse, building an unbreakable bond, the love and trust of this huge animal , to work with, play with ,put your life and dreams and hopes in his hooves for 10 or 20 years or more ,from the very beginning to GP , be it medal worthy or not …….. it is something else , something authentic ❤️the depth of commitment and understanding ,of satisfaction , personal achievement, complete ownership of your own success.
My Diva is the daughter of my amazing mare Diamantina. On paper , Diva is my least successful horse and has for sure been my greatest challenge in the sport.
I love every cell of her great big body, just as I did her very special mother❤️We are not there yet, she is still to find perfect balance, we work towards that perfect harmony every day.
We bred her, I trained her, she is now a Grand Prix horse. A fragile GP horse but soon she will be stable and strong and confident.
We did it together and I believe in her unwaveringly even if no one else can see it…….. yet!
Don’t give up! Have faith🤗The most challenging ones are usually the best in the end.
Success is how you measure it…….. to win a medal or to have trained your own horse or to know in those quiet places that you climbed a mountain …… your own mountain…… when no one else thought you could💪🤗❤️
