Did you know? Microchipped animals are 20 TIMES more likely to be reunited with their owners!

Since September is Microchip Month here at Warton Road we’ve got some helpful insight to assist some of our new and upcoming future pawparents:

Microchips what are they?
Well these are tiny forms of permanent identification for your pets! They are about the size of a grain of rice and are implanted just under the skin in between your pets shoulder blades with a needle.
Each chip has its own individual number that is detected using a microchip scanner. The microchip number is recorded on a database registry with details about the pet and their owners. Should your furbaby become lost or go for a wonder; vets, pet rescues and local councils can scan your pet and contact you via the database.
Sadly, they are not a GPS or tracking device so nobody can track your pets location via the microchip but it can assist in helping you in recovering your pet should they become lost.

Are microchips painful?
Microchipping is a quick, safe and simple procedure. Inserting a microchip is like a vaccination, it only takes a few seconds. Pets can sometimes experience some minor discomfort, however this is short lived and the benefits do outweigh any minimal momentary discomfort.

Is microchipping mandatory for cats and dogs?
In W.A. It is a legal requirement per the Dog Act 1976 and the Cat Act 2011 that dogs and cats are microchipped and registered. Dogs must be microchipped by 3 months of age and cats 6 months of age.
With 1 in 3 pets becoming lost at some stage these tiny chips are your pets best chance of being reunited with their families if they do happen to go missing. While collars and tags can also help in returning lost pets they can become damaged, fade or fall off/be removed, where as a microchip is permanent and the most reliable form of identification. Failure to microchip and register your pet can result in council fines.

If you are wanting any further information on how to have your pet microchipped or how to update your pets microchip information, please contact the nursing team on 08 9490 2266.

Cancellation of appointments

Please understand that appointment times are limited. If you must cancel your appointment, we respectfully request 24 hours notice. Missed appointments, or appointments cancelled without notice, will incur a fee of $77

Our goal is to provide quality health care to all our patients in a timely manner. No-shows, late arrivals, and cancellations inconvenience not only our providers, but our other patients as well. Please be aware of our policy regarding missed appointments.

If you need to cancel your appointment, please call us on 94902266. If necessary, you may leave a detailed voicemail message. We will return your call as soon as possible.

We don’t want to be the bad guys, hounding clients to show up when they say they will. Nevertheless, everyone suffers when we have too many no-show

Respect The Lead Campaign

The aim of the Respect The Lead campaign is to spread the word about how to let your dog interact with others in a happy and safe way, and help raise awareness that dogs are often kept on a lead for good reason.

When a dog is being kept on a lead, being approached by a confident or excited dog can make it feel trapped and cause it to lash out. This can be dangerous for both dogs and owners and can result in serious injury.

Whilst it’s common to see a dog being walked on a lead for obvious reasons, such as a road being nearby, there are many reasons which are sometimes not so obvious.
This can include a dog which is –
-Reactive to other dogs, animals, or people
-Undergoing training
-A New rescue dog, gaining confidence
-Recovering from injury or surgery
-A Young puppy, learning about the world
-Elderly or frail

When a dog is being kept on a lead, being approached by a confident or active dog can make them feel trapped and cause them to lash out. This can be dangerous for both dogs and owners alike and can result in serious injury.

For some dogs, meeting lead to lead can also put dogs and owners in a vulnerable situation.
Your dog may be happy to interact with others but remember that this is not the case for everyone. If you see another dog on a lead, then respect that they may need some space.

Hi everyone, we want to introduce you to "Cadbury". This little trooper presented to our clinic after suddenly developing a head tilt.
Dr Caitlin performed a detailed physical exam and diagnosed Cadbury with an ear infection that was affecting the balance center of his inner ear.
After a course of pain relief and antibiotics, Cadbury's balance returned and he was back to his happy squeaky self 🥰

Here he is with mum saying thankyou to our vets and vet nurses for getting him back in tip top shape.
Good job Cadbury, we are glad you are feeling better!

Do you know old your baby is in human years?
A pet is considered a senior around the age 7! That’s around 44-56 human years for dogs and 44 human years for cats!

Hoomans! Just like you, your pet wants to live a long and happy life. With proper health care management these distinguished gentlemen and ladies can live a very long and happy life to their full potential which can be well over 100 human years!

The key to a longer, healthier life is all about detecting problems early on. Just like yours truly is faithful servants whom as we get older go to the Dr more regularly as we age, so should your senior pets! It is recommended half-yearly to yearly your senior citizen should be seen for checks and thorough physical exams.

A Senior Pet Health Check is a great way to get a compressive health assessment to detect potentially serious diseases and health conditions in early stages! Early detection can help in providing the right care and management long-term for these medical conditions.

As we know our floofs age whether we want it or not! They begin to slow down and this can go unnoticed for a while. During this time your pet needs help and understanding. Unlike a paw parent, pets can’t take responsibility for their care and rely solely on you! So during the wonderful month of July we are offering Senior Month packages ranging from Bronze, Silver and Gold for both catto’s and doggo’s.

If you’re wanting to know more about our packages and the components please contact us on 08 9490 2266 and make a book with one of the nursing team!

This offer is only valid till the 31st of July!
