Rommel 3yo filly Desert Whisper gave her rivals a galloping lesson with a free-wheeling victory in the Studco Hcp (1000m) at Ascot on Wednesday. It was the first leg of a double for Rommel and she could have scored by more than the official four-length plus margin posted by the judge. “That was absolutely the easiest winner I’ve ever ridden!” apprentice Brayden Gaerth declared. ...

He has entered 16 yearlings under the Mungrup Pty Ltd banner and the cream of the consignment rises to the top with four colts by Playing God. Williamson launched the champion stallion’s stud career in 2014 and it also cemented his status as the Great Southern’s most successful breeder on record....

Mogumber Park-bred graduate Do I Feel Lucky turned the tables on his close relation Castle Road with an exceptional victory in the $80,000 Magic Millions Plate (1100m) at Ascot on Saturday. Do I Feel Lucky became the first winner for G2 Schillaci Stakes (1000m) winner Dirty Work (Written Tycoon) when he collared odds-on favourite Castle Road (Safeguard) and went clear to score by more than two lengths from Golden Opera (A Lot) and Just Too Fly (Justify)....

Lynward Park resident Bondi (Snitzel) sired his fourth winner in three weeks at Ascot on Saturday when Rocket Juice took advantage of a rails run to score first-up in the Westspeed Platinum Hcp (1200m). Rocket Juice (4g Bondi - Juice by Bertolini) relaxed in running off a moderate tempo set by stablemate Star Power (War Chant). When the leader rolled off the fence in the straight, Steve Parnham seized the initiative to defeat Another Strike (Sessions) who had been forced five-wide on the corner....

Playing God didn’t break stride into the New Year with winners at Ascot (All Play) on Wednesday and Pinjarra (Precious God) on Thursday. The Darling View champion had sired the winners of 14 races in December headed by smart mare Rissoles in the $125,000 Epona Classic (1200m) at Ascot on Westspeed Platinum Day. Peters Investments missed improving its monumental G2 Perth Cup record when Diamond Scene (So You Think) was beaten less than a length on Wednesday but it took no more than a half-hour to lift another feature race in front of the big crowd at Ascot. Bob and Sandra Peters aren’t familiar with going home empty-handed on New Year’s Day and their homebred Antique Miss (Domesday) came to the party with a front-running victory in G3 La Trice Classic (1800m)....

Veteran sprinter Oxbridge brought up a New Year’s Day double for Yarradale Stud when he arrived on the line to nail the LR Summer Scorcher (1000m) at Ascot on Wednesday. Oxbridge was conceived in the second of four books covered by Storm Cat sire City Place (USA) at Yarradale between 2014 and 2017 in contrast to the 8yo gelding’s bottom-line that continues to go from strength to strength....

Oakland Park homebred North Face was always travelling like a winner at Bunbury on Sunday and there were no excuses for the beaten division after Lucy Fiore went for home in the Flyn & Peter Narkle Maiden (1200m). Ridgeport Farm resident Rommel signed off the calendar year with an international double on Sunday which signalled even better things to come in 2025. Rommel has a rousing 67% winning strike-rate from his first four crops and they don’t come any better than Aussie-expat Tourbillon Prince who was winning for the fourth time in Hong Kong. Hours earlier, Noble Connection opened his winning account for Pearce Racing in the Donnybrook Glass Maiden (1690m) at Bunbury. ...

The stars aligned for Geisel Park-bred winners Sunshine Tafe (All American) and Our Rocky Bay (Awesome Rock) on Saturday when they completed an early double at Pinjarra. They went out as odds-on favourites and were both piloted by in-form hoop Lucy Fiore who doubled up again with Why Me (Jimmy Choux) and North Face (Sessions) at Bunbury on Sunday. Lucy and trainer Peter Fernie will be hoping Sunshine Tafe’s victory in the SBS Computers Hcp (1300m) augurs well for stablemate Sentimental Hero (Al Maher) who is the $5.50 favourite for the $1 million Perth Cup (2400m) on Wednesday....

Yarradale Stud manager Davy Hanratty predicted a pampered life for Valour Road in retirement and there’s been no reason to doubt it after his first week back home in Gidgegannup. Norich makes his black-type debut in the LR Summer Scorcher (1000m) on New Year’s Day after completing a winning hat-trick at Ascot on December 21. The 6yo son of former Taunton Vale sire Demerit (Lonhro) has been a work in progress for quite some time. In fact, he was facing the starter for the 50th time in the TBWA Stallion Tender Scheme Trophy (1200m) last Saturday week but the result was never in doubt. ...

Beautifully-bred 3yo Daytona Pete continued Yarradale Stud’s winning run in December with a comprehensive victory in the Westspeed Platinum Sires Stakes (1200m) on Saturday. The son of Yarradale resident Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) is a full-brother to millionaire sprinter Red Can Man and trainer Steve Wolfe reckons he’s a serious horse, too. “They’re different types but they’ve both got a motor,” Wolfe said following the two-length win over Gold Flakes (Playing God) and Show The Way (Ducimus)....
