We canβt believe itβs already July 1st!
Here is a look back at a few of the beautiful and brave fur-babies that have visited the clinic so far this year β€οΈπββ¬πΎ
We canβt wait to see what the next 6 months holds!
Meet Nala. Nala is a 10-year-old Domestic shorthair who absolutely loves her lifestyle, but most importantly, loves to always look pristine (she is a bit of princess like that!)
Recently, her mum, Nurse Naomi, noticed she wasnβt grooming her back end as well as she usually would. In fact, her fur was starting to clump together, which is the beginning of a matt. Nala wasnβt grooming out the old hair, so it was becoming stuck and making her coat look unsightly even for her high standards.
This is when her Mum decided to intervene. Over the course of 3 days (to lower stress levels), Nalaβs coat was combed, and all the excess hair was removed. This amount of hair was enough to make a doona for Nala!
Nala was also placed on a once daily dosage of 4cyte. This daily supplement contains Epiitalis, a plant derived oil extract of the seed of Biota Orientalis which is known for its powerful anti-inflammatory properties and cartilage cell proliferation. This aids cats prone to or experiencing osteoarthritis.
Since the intervention from Nalaβs mum, she has improved incredibly, grooming herself and playing like a kitten again! Her coat is back to its usual soft, glossy nature.
This is just one example of arthritis pain in cats as they can be extremely good at masking signs. Below are more signs to look out for:
πΎReduced mobility
πΎChanges in their ability to jump β this is the most important sign to look for
πΎReduced height of jumping e.g. no longer getting up on kitchen bench
πΎReluctance or hesitation before jumping up or down from furniture, appear to think carefully before jumping
πΎReduced frequency of jumping up to usual places
πΎDifficulty or slow when using stairs or getting through the cat flap
πΎPulling themselves up with front legs to get onto the couch or the bed
πΎLitter tray accidents, urinating and/or defecating outside the litter tray, reluctance to climb into high sided tray
πΎReduced agility e.g. will jump on chair before jump
π₯³Happy 1st Birthday Soju!! π₯³π
Wishing one of our dearest little patients Soju, a very happy first birthday. Soju is currently undergoing treatment for FIP (Feline infectious peritonitis) and comes to see us for regular blood tests and monitoring to ensure stability in his ongoing health (and he doesn't mind seeing us for BIG birthday hugs either π)
ππ»πΎ And the winner isβ¦.
