Vetwest Animal Hospitals also does what we can for the less fortunate animals in our community with extensive care of wildlife and a cat adoption program. With the Easter long weekend starting tomorrow and ANZAC day fast approaching, our opening hours will be different to usual. See below for changes.
With Easter fun we also like to remind everyone that in order for it to stay fun there are some hazards to be mindful of to avoid the vet! Vetwest as a whole is closed on Good Friday so for emergency care call WAVES or PVE Cannington, otherwise Sunday Vetwest Midland is open - 9404 1160 or on Monday Vetwest Cockburn is open - 9404 1199.

We have 2 adorable baby boy kittens who as of tomorrow need very good homes!! These cheeky boys are full of energy and cuddles. Adoption fees include full course of vaccinations, sterilisation at 6months, microchipping and their care throughout the duration of their stay with us. Their lovely mummy and her new borns were abandoned and brought into us by a Good Samaritan- they have since been cared for and loved by our team who you may have to sweet talk into handing them over on adoption day 😜

Tali the Koala came in today for a consult and as a result our team got some extra special cuddles. It’s always a privilege to help our friends at Cohuna Koala park, as you most of you know our team are dedicated wildlife advocates and have a soft spot for Aussie natives 🐨💕🌿

I don’t think that was just a fly Coco!🐝
Coco the puppy was brought into our clinic when his mummy noticed some facial swelling…by the time Coco presented his puffy little face was looking quite sad, but also very cute 😋 Upon further investigation, the likely story is that when mum brought in the clean and dry bed sheets, a bee got caught up in the mix and ended up in the bed with the family! Poor Coco didn’t realise this spicy fly would cause this reaction- in fact did you know bees are quite a common allergen in dogs, with most patients experiencing worse reactions with every subsequent sting throughout their lives.

We hope this is the last time Coco runs into any spicy flys and after some quick action from his mum and our vet team, Coco avoided anaphalaxis and was able to go home within 30 min of his presentation and be monitored in the comfort of his home. 🥰🐝

🦋 Meet the Team 🦋

Dr Samantha (or as we refer to her; Dr Sammy) is our newest addition to our vet team having been with us for a year now, it does however feel like we’ve known her forever as she fit in perfectly with our team. Sammy loves getting stuck into unique investigations/diagnostics and thrives dealing with any emergency presentations.

Dr Sammy has her own fur babies at home including a dog and 2 cats. She also has been known to foster strays needing veterinary support throughout the night (a true angel). Fun fact, Sammy is a wiz at crocheting, much to her cats disapproval (although we think they secretly like the fashion statement). See comments for cuteness 😸

🐐 Meet the Team 🐐

Our wonderful Head Nurse Bessie (pictured holding Nessie..) has been with Vetwest for almost 10 years now! Bessie thrives dealing with emergencies and monitoring anaesthetics particularly on interesting and complex cases.

Bessie has a menagerie of animals at home creating her own hobby farm from her Aussie Shepard to her family of goats, with all the wonderful furred and feathered animals in between. If bessie isn’t at home tending to her property she’s kicking butt in Mauy Thai- she’s even fought competitively!

You may have seen recent news and social media posts about the closure of HomeSafeID, a national microchip supplier.

⁉️ What does this mean?

With this shutdown, any microchips registered with HomeSafeID will no longer be searchable unless their details are updated to a new registry.

⁉️ What to do next?

Visit www.petaddress.com.au to check your pet’s microchip details. This will tell you if they are registered with HomeSafeID

Alternatively feel free give us a call or visit us at any of our clinics and we can scan your pets chip and search for you ☎️ 🐱

If your pet is registered with HomeSafeID, transfer their details to a new registry as soon as possible.

Options include:

🌸 Meet Our Team 🌸

Meet Dr Tezella, one of our senior vets who is pretty much part of the furniture having been with Vetwest and specifically our clinic for 6 years! Tez has a keen interest in fear free consults and soft tissue injuries/surgery.

Tez goes home to her also vet husband (talk about power couple), 2 small kiddies, 2 dogs (one of which is in a doggy wheelchair!) and 1 cat. Fun fact- Tez loves going Bouldering, think rock climbing without all the safety equipment 😱
