City Beach Vet update – we are still open!

As you are all aware the Ocean Village Shopping Centre will be redeveloped - some clients have asked what this means for us.

We want to assure all our wonderful clients that we are open for business at Ocean Village Shopping Centre even though some businesses have already relocated.

We want you to know that we have exciting plans for our future that will involve a relocation into a purpose-built hospital. We will periodically keep you informed as our build progresses and will announce the location and opening date as we get closer to the project finish.

We look forward to continuing to look after you and your pets for many years to come.

As the weather begins to heat up, please remember to watch for signs of heat stroke in your dogs. Heatstroke can be fatal but is highly preventable. ☀️
• If you can’t keep your hand on the ground for about 5 seconds due to the heat, then please refrain from walking your dog as it’s pads may blister.

• Bring pets inside if possible.

⛅ As the weather warms up, we start to see more parasite problems for all sorts of pets. For more information on some of the more common parasites we come across, the problems they cause and how to get rid of them and prevent them, please speak to our team.

🐶🐱 Getting to know your pet's ears can help detect and prevent ear problems and infections. Whilst some breeds of pets can be prone to ear problems, inflammation and infections can occur from something as simple as a grass seed. If you suspect your pet has an ear infection or you’ve noticed a change in your pet’s normal ear condition, please contact us to book an appointment for your pet.

It's important to continue exercising your pet in Winter, as well as keeping them mentally stimulated. Being cooped up inside can encourage destructive and negative behaviours. Walks, runs, catching up with friends and play sessions in the park are perfect ways to keep your pet active. Here are a few tips for you.

12 July - How to tell if your pet is in pain

Sometimes when a pet is in pain, you may see subtle changes in their behaviour. Cats may sleep more and resist jumping; dogs may be hesitant to go on a walk. Any changes in behaviour can be a sign of pain or other health issues, and we recommend taking your furry family to see our veterinary team.

For our older pets, it is important that they are kept warm and comfortable during the cooler months. If you notice them struggling to move, it could be age-related diseases such as arthritis. If you are wanting more information on ways to keep your pet warm or have a senior pet that you would like to discuss, contact us today.

There is plenty of evidence to support that cuddling your cat is beneficial for your health. Make sure you hug your feline today. If your cat isn't into hugs - perhaps a high 5 or a pat! #HugYourCatDay

How have your pets been keeping cool on hot days? We recommend ensuring that you have plenty of cool, fresh water available and your pet has access to air conditioning, fans or at least a cool shady area if they must go outside. Make sure you check the temperature of the ground before you take your dog for a walk and only walk early in the morning or late in the afternoon

Did you know our pets can suffer from heatstroke too? If you see them panting or drooling excessively, becoming restless or unstable on their feet, or the gums changing to a bluish-purple or bright red colour, it's important to call us immediately and cool them down on the way to see us. The quickest way to cool them down is by using a fan or placing a damp towel over me. In any situation where you are concerned, please call us.
