This is a very important post to read. Kate and her team at Warwick go above and beyond for ALL their clients, and it’s very important to understand that they are doing the best for everyone and are always going to prioritise emergencies. This means rescheduling appointments, surgeries and even rosters/staff to accommodate those who need them most. Every vet clinic does the same, including us. So please be kind and understanding, and know that we are doing our very best! 🫶🏼🐾❤️
A real look into clinic life today…
By mid-morning, we had a surgical list of five, and were caring for a dog admitted with vomiting blood.
Just before lunchtime, two more critical cases came through our doors, a heatstroke patient and a seizuring patient, both needing urgent stabilisation from all three vets and our nursing team.
When true emergencies arrive, we sometimes have to reschedule a small number of non-urgent appointments to make space for life-threatening cases. We don’t do this often and only when absolutely necessary.
Today, most clients were incredibly understanding.
One client, however, became upset when asked if we could move their appointment by just 90 minutes. They stated that “it wasn’t their problem we were dealing with emergencies” and that the clinic was “clearly poorly run if it can’t deal with emergencies.”
They also said we were “assuming their pet wasn’t dying,” despite the fact their case had been appropriately triaged over the phone as a non-urgent, stable condition.
Here’s an important insight:
Veterinary clinics triage just like human hospitals:
🩺 Critical or life-threatening cases must be seen immediately
⏳ Urgent but stable cases are managed as soon as possible
📅 Routine or non-urgent cases can sometimes be safely rescheduled
Even though we are a general practice clinic, when a patient comes through our doors fighting for life… we treat it like an emergency hospital. Because in those moments, it is.
If we ever contact you to reschedule, please know it’s never because your pet isn’t important.
It’s because, at that moment, another pet might not survive without immediate care.
💛 Thank you to the clients today who showed patience, understanding, and kindness… it truly made a difference.
We debated whether to share this, but we feel it’s important to show the true reality of life inside a vet clinic.
