As the heat waves continue, it’s important to remember that our pet friends are just as vulnerable to the heat as we are! 🐾☀️
Dogs can overheat quickly, so make sure to:
1. Keep them hydrated with fresh water.
2. Avoid long walks during peak heat hours.
3. Never leave them in a car, even for a minute.
4. Provide cool, shaded areas for them to relax.

Case Study - "Little Rascal"

'Little Rascal' is a 7 month old Pygymy goat who presented with a sudden onset of lameness and was diagnosed with Biaxial P1 Salter Harris Type 1 fractures in the left forelimb. Dr Kristen administered a brief IV anaesthetic, reduced the fractures and then placed the leg in a cast for 6 weeks. Follow up x-rays showed the fracture to be healed!

Removal of a large mammary mass at West Coast Vets! The below dog presented with this large mass associated with its mammary (breast) glands. A mastectomy was successfully performed and this girl went home the next day.

It’s been a busy few weeks here at West Coast Vets with both the Nuclear Scintigraphy and MRI units being run as the preferred choice of gold standard diagnostic option by many equine owners. Seen here is the MRI in action taking a full series of images of the fetlock. This is our third MRI in the last 5 days, in which is outlining a diagnosis but also giving owners answers and plans moving forward depending on each case!

An interesting equine case recently presented to West Coast Vets. 🐴🦠🧫🧪

Sinus related surgeries are generally performed under sedation with the horse standing in a crush. It was known the horse had a mass due to undergoing advanced imaging (CT). No resolution was found with consistent antibiotic treatments. Moving forward with treatment this horse had a small area of bone above the affected sinus removed to insert a indwelling catheter. This was to allow administration of the anti-fungal agents and to flush the sinus regularly.

This case will be put together and uploaded to youtube for the full footage.
