We pride ourselves in producing high quality, heritage poultry for your backyard coop or farm and have been breeding chickens for over 20 years. Previously, we have had great success in showing our birds but recently have transitioned from showing to supplying quality chickens for

This hen is raising chicks that are not her own. A customer shared this picture with me, and I think it is beautiful.🩵

So you ask, what do I do with my broody hen?

Give her a sexed chick or 2 or 10 if you like to raise as her own.

Don't punish her by locking her in a wire floored cage or dunking her in a bucket of cold water.

Broodieness is all hormones, she can't control it, she is doing what her body wants to do.

If you don't want more chicks, simply remove her from the nest at least once a day, so he eats and drinks. Give her a dusting of pestene to prevent lice and mites and she will be fine. Expect to do this for 21 - 30 days before broodiness naturally comes to an end.

So, I know a lot of you want coop ready girls, so I have managed to source some coop ready girls from a friend who breeds good quality chickens.
This will be a first in best dressed offer and they must be picked up by Friday (no holds)

We have 6 heritage layers and 6 brahma cross available.
All are black so don't ask for other colours.

It's that time of the year again!

If you see feathers like this on your chooks, they have mites.

So crack out the delice/demite kit and see that your chooks are free from these horrid little critters.

Mite's and lice can KILL your chooks, and as a minimum will keep them off the lay and make them weak and anaemic.

There are many products you can use, but the most common 2 are pestene powder and ivermectin.

Your chooks will be much happier with this attention to detail.

Breeding Season is getting under way and we have some exciting news.

We have had such great success delivering chicks to Sydney and Canberra, need heat, from Day olds and up, that we have decided this season is the time to launch our Delivery Service.

We can also deliver all the supplies needed to raise chicks from day old and up.

Depending on demand we are looking at NSW, Canberra, Victoria and Southern QLD.

Due to Chickens being the new 'toilet paper' we are highly recommending people grab our sexed day old chicks and our brooder bundles and raise them yourself.

It is easy, it is fun and make for super friendly pets.

Delivery fee applies to each order.

We are also looking at transporting other small animals.

Our free range layers are finally coming back on the lay🎉

We will have free-range heritage breed chicken eating eggs available shortly. This season, they will be rainbow dozens @ 9 💰 a dozen. Eggs are not weight packaged.

We are now opening our books for those who want to be on our regular order list.

Pick-up will be from the farm gate at Pheasants Nest.

Before we were Libby's Heritage Chickens, we were Silk 'n' Feathers and the name that I used to show Poultry under.

My love of poultry (and animals in general) has been a long one.

One of the things I love about breeding chickens, is the art.
Literally, we take a blue egg layer and breed it to a brown egg layer and we get an olive green egg layer, and in this instance it is even speckeld😍

In this uncertain time of Avian Influenza being front and centre on the news, I see people stressing about their chickens' well-being.

We have started using Orego-Stim on all our livestock, including chickens from our day-old chicks to our breeding flocks and layers for eating eggs.
In the 1 week we have started using it, we have seen a significant increase in vitality of our chooks.

Keep your chooks immune systems strong to help protect them from illness, just as we do for ourselves. Orego-stim is also prevention for coccidiosis in chicks and layers.

500mls is $39, plus $10.90 postage or pick-up from the farm.

We have Belgian D'uccles and pekin, including frizzled pekin.

I am looking forward to the coming season, we have so many lovely chicke breeds to choose from.

I am even thinking of putting together a Sizzle pen (silkie x frizzle) for all the frizzle enthusiasts and just because it is always good to have a little fun with what you love.

Keeping it real. I could have emptied this pond and filled it with fresh water before creating this post but decided to show you what keeping ducks really looks like🤣

Where there are ducks, there is mud (especially after all these storms), where there is mud there is muddy water but happy ducks.

This is a mit of a messy post, BUT hey, let's be real here. With all the rain we have had, there is going to be mud, so mud we have.

If you are after an option to the commercial Isa, this is the breed for you.

The Heritage New Hampshire, an old breed that is often included in developing commercial breeds due to the high number of LARGE eggs they lay.

As you can see, they are very much still laying in winter even with the extra reduced daylight hours of overcast, stormy weather.

The New Hamprshire is a robust, even tempered breed, great for families and backyards.

We currently have some chicks needing heat that you can grow out during winter, so they are ready for your late spring, early summer laying.

We can't forget the good old Aussie favourite, the heritage Australorp.

Please don't mix this Heritage breed up with the 'hybrid layer' called the 'Australorp', they are not the same.

The Heritage Australorp is a large solid fowl, with a beautiful temperament that will lay for 5-6 years, they are great mums and will happily raise 2 dozen chicks for you, in fact the roosters will even help raise the chicks.

We currently have 2 pens. Pen 1 with a white rooster to black hens and this pen pictured with the black rooster, with blue and white hens, I do have 1 black hen to add to this pen too.

As we slowly move through the cold of winter, we are deep cleaning coops and moving breeding flocks around and making necessary adjustments.

We thought it would be a good time to show you some of this seasons breeding flocks.

Our Guinea Fowl's first day out of their coop.

They were a little nervous and spent the day huddling, and i have to say, i was a little nervous they wouldn't return to their coop and decide to go bush.

I did discover, however, that they were easy to herd as a group, so we walked them back to their coop before sunset.

I am looking forward to seeing how they go this spring. We lost several chooks to black snakes last season, so they will be on patrol.

Could this be my first successful Call Duck Hatching.

I have just candled these 11 egg, and all have internally pipped into the air cell.

For me water fowl have been so different to incubate and a lot more work and care is needed. Chicken eggs are easy in comparison to duck eggs.

If we are successful, i will have to share some tips and put the full detail on how we did it on 'The inside Coop'

Let's play a guessing game.

I am going to say we get 8️⃣ successfully hatch.🦆
