Australian Brumbies and American Mustangs - this is a sensitive topic for many people. No matter your view on their capture and "rehoming", it looks set to continue for the foreseeable future.
It gives many a feeling that they are helping by giving these horses a safe home, and I applaud those people for it. However, I have connected with several brumbies and mustangs over the past few years. Some have been recently brought in from the wild, and one mare was 25 years old and had been captured as a yearling.
The one thing all these horses have in common, is that they have been traumatised, and that trauma never leaves them. They can be well cared for, and loved by their owners, there is no doubt of that. They can be gently trained with feeling and compassion, and learn to love their people. But the trauma never leaves them just the same. π
I'm not here to provide a solution and I don't know that there is one. Those horses are wild because of the actions of people, and they pay the price, again because of people.
My sessions give their a littlepeople more understanding about why their horse is the way it is, and in it's own way, that is very helpful for both of them.
