Riding with friends
Today was a great day for a ride. Thanks Tahlia for coming up. Justin rode Rain who was totally awesome. Of course Splash and Ana were great, Jazz was a tad emotional for the last part of the ride but I can’t remember the last time I rode her 🧐
Rain is back
After years of unsoundness, finally we have answers . Rain has Navicula in both front feet. She has had injections into coffin joint and will wear wedges in front rubber composite shoes to correct angle and relieve pressure.
She is like a new horse, happy to burn around the paddock with the others.
This was her first ride back and she was perfect.
She will go back to teaching people how to ride and give confidence.
Macy
No matter what I throw at this little mare, she never ceases to amaze me.
I initially had her Bosal on, but decided to take it off and see how she went ❤️
Boon
Sorry for all the talking but I was explaining to his owner what I was doing on the video.
For a very long time I’ve been working with this boy. Due to a couple of reasons he is always on the forehand and sits very heavy in your hands. I’ve tried so many different exercises to help him soften up and hold his own head up, but nothing seemed to work. Didn’t matter what I put on his head or in his mouth, he would just lean and get heavy. Pushing his hinds out only resulted in him rushing more forwards, despite him knowing how to move his hinds lightly standing still.
In the back of my mind I would always hear Steve say “do anything but pull “! But I kept thinking, but HOW!
I decided to stop riding with anything attached to his head and use a string around his neck. The first ride was a huge eye opener 😳 without control of some sort on his head he was completely lost and almost panicked. It showed that he relied solely on his bridle.
The next ride I used a very prickly horse hair mecate around his neck, this gave him clear signal and he really tried. Today was the third ride but with a softer Mecate. Obviously it was very hard to ride one handed with just a rope and video at the same time but it gives you an idea of him really trying.
The aim is to retrain his brain to listen to my body and stop relying on his bridle and shutting his brain off.
Kahn
Trying a little leg yield
Kahn
Same exercise but the opposite way.
Kahn
This little cutie is Kahn.
When I first met this little guy he had a very high opinion of himself 😂 he still does at times but is much better now
This exercise is riding a circle then disengaging the hinds, into a backup and follow through with shoulders. He tried very hard, just gets stuck in the back up still.
Boon
This time we practiced forwards, across then back.
Poles are great for all kinds of exercise.
Boon
Big boy Boon doing a great job backing through the poles even though I only had one hand
