πŸ“£ SCAM WARNING πŸ“£

Have you received a text or email from someone claiming to be from a microchip registry and asking for payment?

There is a new scam aiming to scare owners into paying for fake yearly memberships to keep their pet's microchip active. Do not fall for this attempt! Your pet's microchip is for LIFE and never expires. Once you update your contact details, they are there until you choose to change them.

Unsure what details are on your pet's microchip? Need to update your address or phone number? Unsure if your pet is microchipped? Simply pop into the clinic or call 5485 0088 and one of our nurses can check for you free of charge 🐾

Need to microchip your pet? Phone 5485 0088 to make an appointment to make sure they can always find their way home.

Do you know when you last gave your pet protection against the deadly paralysis tick?

Ticks are prevalent during Spring and Summer and can be deadly to our furry friends. Not only can they be picked up in the backyard and on walks, but they can also be carried in on our clothing and affect our indoor pets, too.

Ensure you are keeping up to date with a high quality prevention, such as Bravecto or Nexgard chews for dogs, Bravecto or Nexgard spot on products for cats, or the new Bravecto Quantum injection which will cover your dog for ticks for 12 months without the need to re-dose.

Don't forget to regularly search your pet for ticks, especially around the base of the tail, the armpits, the neck, and behind the ears, and monitor your pets for the following signs. If you think your pet has been affected by a paralysis tick, call us on 5485 0088 immediately, or for afterhours care and advice, call North Coast Veterinary Emergency on 5453 7555.

Tick and Snake Season

Ticks and snakes are on the move once more! While active year round, as the weather starts to warm up, we see a massive increase in tick and snake patients coming into the clinic. Prompt and proper treatment is key to full recovery.

Signs to look for:
❗️ Weakness
❗️ Vomiting or unproductive retching
❗️ Collapse, even when they seem to recover afterwards
❗️ Hind end paralysis
❗️ Laboured breathing
❗️ Blood in the urine
❗️ Sudden incontinence
❗️ Confusion or stumbling

What can you do to help prevent the likelihood of your pet being bitten by a tick or snake?
βœ… Keep up to date with tick prevention such as Nexgard or Bravecto, or the new once yearly Bravecto Quantum injection
βœ… Keep your pets on a leash while walking
βœ… Mow your yard and keep grass short and shrubs trimmed
βœ… Avoid walking dogs in heavily vegetated areas
βœ… Keep rubbish cleared and get rid of potential snake food sources such as rats and mice
βœ… Do regular tick searches, focusing on the armpits, tail area, ears, and neck

If your pet has interacted with a snake, do not attempt to catch or kill the snake. If the snake is already dead, do not handle it, as there have been reported cases of people becoming envenomated even after death.

If you have found a tick on your pet and they are otherwise symptom-less, remove the tick immediately. Remember that preventatives such as Nexgard and Bravecto are unable to repel ticks, but do kill them once attached to your pet. Even indoor pets can get a tick, as they come inside on our clothes.

If you think your pet has been bitten or is showing any symptoms, call us on 5485 0088 or bring them into the clinic immediately. For afterhours treatment call the Noosa Animal Emergency Centre on 5353 7005 or North Coast Veterinary Emergency on 5453 7555.
