Position: Receptionist Hours: 3 days per week with rotational Saturday mornings

Support veterinarians and veterinary nurses in delivering outstanding patient care.

Requirements:
Previous experience in customer service or reception roles preferred.

Ear infections:

Any dog can get an ear infection. But long-eared ones like spaniels and retrievers and hairy-eared ones like terriers and poodles are more susceptible.

Look out for head-shaking, pawing at the ear, redness and odours, as these are signs of a problem.

Ears are a sensitive part of the body if you see any of these signs, book your beloved fur baby into see your local Vet as soon as you can.

Spring is here early this year and Grass seeds are a real hazard for your fury friend

Grass seeds are a major health problem for animals.

Overview
Grass seeds commonly affect pets, particularly during the warmer months. They can lodge in the skin, ear, eye, toe, nose causing irritation and infection, or migrate into the internal organs causing serious illness and death. Studies show that medium-length coats are at higher risk for serious disease due to the dense undercoat.

Predispositions:
Medium to long-coated dogs
Active, outdoor pets
Access to paddocks or reserves
Pets not groomed regularly
Signs
The sharp tip of the grass seed or awn allows them to easily pe*****te the skin.

Common signs of grass seed problem:
Licking at the paw
Head shake or tilt
Rubbing ear
Abscess or soft lump under the skin
Management
Treatment requires the removal of the grass seed and management of any infection. Depending on the location of the grass seed, general anesthesia and surgery may be required to trace and remove the seed.

Prevention
Grooming
Regular grooming is the most effective way of preventing grass seeds. Clipping or searching for seeds without grooming is not effective. Professional groomers can clip a long coat but can also strip out the dense undercoat to reduce the risk.

Searching
After being outside, the pet should be checked thoroughly. It is important to check between each toe, within the ears, and under the armpits.

Grass management
Keeping the grass low and avoiding grasses that produce grass seeds such as Barley and Corkscrew grass, is important.
