This is a short clip from the latest group real world obedience class. We had advanced dogs to beginners who all showed great progress. This is a very challenging environment to train in as there is a lot of distractions. But if you want to improve your dogs obedience skills these are the steps you need to take. Training in your comfort zone without challenging yourself will not improve you or your Dog skills.

Too many people are bitten by dogs from careless behaviour around them. The reality is most dog bites are avoidable if you know how to read body language and not make them uncomfortable. As I say in this video, I urge you to educate yourself on dog body language along with your family and children so we can reduce the incidents of this happening.

This video is to demonstrate the importance of your motivation towards your dog especially puppies when teaching recall. They are very easily distracted by other things if you’re not interesting and motivating.
When I teach the come command, I’m always reminding people about creating tunnel vision for their dogs. You need to be the only thing that matters to them. Try to paint the picture like the dog has blinkers on and can only see you.

If you have a dog with separation anxiety, this can be a good first step to help them work through it. You need to practice having separation from your Dog. I call this forced separation. By consistently doing this, you can build their independence and confidence in being away from you.
If you can’t do this as the first step leaving the house is always going to be difficult. It can be a long process to get a dog over there separation anxiety but with consistent practice you can get results.

Coming across and off lead Dog in public is not an uncommon occurrence. As you can see in this video this Dog comes running towards me and my dog. I have no doubt this dog was probably friendly but it is not worth the risk because you never know how things can go when two dogs meet.
As I demonstrate this video while I’m always telling everybody show confidence, stand your ground, use a strong voice and a very high percentage of dogs will go the other way. Their interest is in your dog not you and most dogs are easily deterred by a confident person.
This dog was being walked and the young girl and she accidentally dropped the lead. It demonstrates the importance of having a good recall command in case this happens to you.
