When it comes to managing your dogs reactivity there are allot different things trainers will tell you. Unfortunately so many of them will fail you.
This is due to fact that most of these methods are no more than a distraction. Your dog needs to clearly know what is acceptable behaviour and what isn't.
Sure we can reward with treats if your dogs makes a good choice. But if think to a truly reactive dog food is more valuable than being aggressive or attacking a dog you are misinformed. You need to be realistic in the methods you use to manage strong instincts in your dog.

There are very few jobs we can have a such a quick positive impact on someone’s life has been a Dog trainer.
And in particular the field I deal with a lot of which is anxious, scared, aggressive dogs.
When I tell people on the phone I will most likely only need one session with them I am sure they don’t believe me and I understand that.
But then then they come to realise very quickly I’m a no nonsense trainer that will be very honest with them and guide them in the correct direction.
It still astounds me how much change can be made in a dog in a very short time with the correct style of training that does not panda to all the dogs insecurities.

Be aware of some people making claims that they can’t deliver. There is a-lot of trainers that will tell tell you they can solve all your dog problems using one method.
Regardless of their training method i urge you to research who you use to make sure they can deliver what is promised.

Real World Advanced Obedience
I will be conducting a real world advanced obedience program beginning Wednesday, November 20th.The purpose of this program is to advance your dogs current level of obedience to a level that you can control them on lead and off lead beside you and at a distance along with other advanced obedience exercises. This program is ran over six lessons, 5 of them will be at my training facility and one of them will be on a Saturday morning which is a 90 minute session. During this final session we will conduct a test of your dogs skills. To pass the program you’ll have to demonstrate these exercises to a proficient level along with others that I will require video footage of. As Dog owners it is vital we learn to understand what reinforces behaviours and what corrects behaviours.
It is very common that with Reactive Dogs owners keep them on a short tight lead to keep them safe however this creates a lot of tension and reinforces your dogs reactivity.
Showing confidence in your handling skills will translate to your Dogs confidence and in a lot of cases reduce reactivity significantly.
Unfortunately, a lot of trainers will make you keep a large distance between you and the other Dog and try to manage these behaviours with treats.
I’m certainly not saying bring too aggressive dogs together but if we want to improve our dogs behaviour we need to be set up in a safe environment that we can get dogs around each other to help us teach them to be more confident and to improve their behaviour.

Regardless of whatever equipment you use to train your dog, you need to know how to use it otherwise you won’t get the benefits.
Slip leads are very misunderstood mainly due to people who don’t know how to use them spreading false information about them.
The truth is a slip leads used correctly allow you to use very little force on your dog but have a lot better control than most other equipment, especially harnesses.
As with a lot of things in life, people are very quick to judge without knowing anything about the topic they are making an opinion on.

With the right dog training you can make very big changes in a short time. In so many cases with dogs like Marley they are never put into a situation to help them develop confidence. Instead they are kept away from any thing that may slightly stress them.
Ironically to help a dog work through things like fear based reactivity, sometimes there needs to be a controlled level of, necessary stress. As humans sometimes we go through stressful moments to build our confidence it is often part of life the helps us grow and dogs are no different.
