Hi I’m Lisa and running a Box Divvy community food Hub in Port Macquarie on a Wednesday www.boxdivvy.com.au
If you wish to join this Hub https://app.boxdivvy.com.au/register/hub/250
OR you can use SIGN UP above.
I’m a foodie and love you to be involved on this page - I’ll be sharing stories about our food ventures, growers, recipes and seeing how we can make a contribution to a sustainable food system.
I want you to know why shopping online with Box Divvy is fun, safer than a supermarket and will save you money whilst still supporting our farmers.
You’ll save up to 40% on seasonal produce, local being mostly Sprayfree and Interstate we assume conventionally grown. Groceries, bread, eggs and Meat/Seafood/Chicken.
Some grocery items will be from overseas as they are not commercially grown in Australia.
Box Divvy, is about supporting local, Backyard and Australian growers, providing fresh, accessible and inexpensive fresh food to everyone – no matter where you live or your income.
OUR COMMUNITY:
What makes Box Divvy unique is the community. It’s more than buying your food.
An initiative with partners Western Sydney Diabetes https://westernsydneydiabetes.com.au/partners we are Building Fresh Food Communities. Box Divvy offer nutritional foods rather than energy high.
There are over 5,500 families now involved in Box Divvy across Sydney, Central Coast, Blue Mountains and South Coast.
HOW DOES THIS WORK?
START ORDER: Everyone gets a Start Order. Fruit & Veg only. The amount you get is based on household size. Around 3-6 items offered, and you can omit up to 3.
SPLITS: This is OPT IN and you have a lot of control in this area of ordering.
You can add additional boxes of fruit and veg, and whatever else is offered that week like pantry items or meat (when it’s our Hub’s order cycle for meat).
Suggest a SPLIT OR join an existing Split. You put in the number of items you want. Once the Hub hits the box minimum everyone gets what they want. Help to get the minimum reached by purchasing a couple more.
This way you get more of what you want.
Example: Let's take Pink Lady apples as an example: they come in a 6Kg box with 35 apples. As soon as the number of apples requested by Hub members reaches 35, the SPLIT is 'in play'. From that point, all SPLIT requests will be honoured – be it for 1 or 10 or 100 additional apples. So long as the total number requested remains above 35.
Just enter one single value for the number of apples you really want. And wait for the rest of the Hub to follow suit.
SPLITS apply to fruit, veg and eggs. There is no change to pantry items (still subject to supplier minimum spend per Hub).
What You do, as a member, each week:
You receive an email to login and can omit up to 3 items.
Join in the Splits to get more of what you want.
Enjoy engaging on the public page with your other members sharing recipes, learning more about growers and storage tips.
Pick up your order or some Hubs may offer Home Delivery (not all).
Yes we have:
Prices for produce up to 40% cheaper than supermarkets because whilst we pay our farmers fairly, between $0.65 to $0.70 in every dollar a members spends we then, due to ou amazingly efficient distribution system are able to reduce prices for you.
Extras which are given to you every week – some weeks more some weeks less depending on availability of produce.
Reduced packaging because you provide a tub and some cloth bags for packing your orders into.
Reduced food miles because we use quite a lot of local, backyard growers.
Reduced Food waste - No storage as we use a ‘just-in-time’ system for produce PLUS the produce is cut on order so not food waste.
Weekly stories about growers, the produce, the products offered, storage tips and recipes.
Community activities at a local level like a Kindness Box or Recycling stations at the Hub (get involved and help start one).
SHOULD I WASH MY PRODUCE?:
We say yes. Whilst only the Farmer and your Hubster touch your produce you have general farm air about. Did you know that research shows an avocado on average in a supermarket gets squeezed at least 4 times. Not at Box Divvy. To see if ripe lightly push the stem and if there’s give then it’s ripe.
TWO FRUIT BOWLS:
Put heavy breathers, of ethylene gas, in one bowl - bananas, pear, apples and the rest in another. When you wish to ripen put item in paper bag then on the bench with one heavy breather and 2-3 days later ripe.
HOW TO ORDER:
We ask you order weekly or at least fortnightly as spaces in a Hub are limited.
REGISTER online https://app.boxdivvy.com.au/find-hubs
CARD: put in a debit (VISA or MASTERCARD)or credit card. No Pay Pal, AMEX.
WELCOME EMAIL: When registered look for your Welcome email. There is a USER GUIDE. Your Hubster will phone you and speak with you. If they can’t your membership will be removed.
ORDER CYCLE: In Welcome email but review this with view this with our Hubster
ORDER CUTOFF: 9pm cards charged. If it Declines 9pm an email will say auto recharge midday following day (day before Hub day). If it declines 2nd processing then Box Divvy administration will follow up and you will be charged $5 and it will be re-run 5pm (day before Hub day)
You must pay BEFORE evening of delivery.
QUALITY CONTROL:
Box Divvy is a co-op not a shop. Box Sharing direct from farmer to you – we do not store.
Great flavoursome produce but be aware we don’t tell our growers what they must pack. So produce will come in different sizes.
REDUCTION OF FOOD WASTE:
Are you on board with this?
The produce may on occasion have growing marks or branch whip on it – the way nature intended. We do not create food waste and if the produce is tasty and grown the way nature intended then we may offer ‘curly’ cucumbers.
WHAT IF I A MEMBER HAS A QUALITY ISSUE?
The Hubster takes great pride and care when packing but can’t see into items.
If you get a ‘yucky’ something let your Hubster know PRIVATELY and not in group message you have an issue. The Hubsters needs to review your issue and decide whether to give extras the following week or put in a CLAIM.
WITHIN WHAT TIME PERIOD SHOULD I CLAIM?
The Hubster can only deal on-on-one with any issue you might have. Within 24 hours of pick up please provide Hubster in private communications a photo and explain your issue.
Constructive feedback is helpful – both positive and if you have an issue. If you don’t let you’re your Hubster know they can’t aim to resolve it 😊
