Hub name: Port Macquarie - Hastings River

Pick up Wednesday. Due to COVID-19 Our Local Food Hubs Have in place Hygiene, Packing and Social Distancing protocol. So a Wave and smile from a distance on pick up. Community working together. To register for the Hub use this link

Box Divvy is Community owned and run. This is a fruit veg and grocery cooperati

ve. We purchase as a group up to 40% cheaper than supermarkets. It’s a Smart coop and you get more of what you want than a normal coop. Box Divvy is a food box sharing system connecting growers & food producers directly with the Food. It is community owned and run designed to cut your food bill. You join online - there is no registration fee. https://www.boxdivvy.com/ You use an App on your phone or computer or a pad to order. Working with Western Sydney Diabetes Alliance - our aim is to provide accessible, inexpensive good quality fresh food. How it works:
Start Order is roughly $25-$30 and you can take up to 3 things out. You get to Vote for Start Order contents each week. How much you get is based on household size but you'll always get more than what you paid for in the Start Order. THEN
SPLITS (Let's SPLIT share a box). More fruit & veg, groceries, bread, eggs, meat etc. Put up 1 or 2 boxes and look at what others want to share and join them. You'll get great value, supporting farming families whom you'll get to know. ORDER CYCLE – FOR Wednesday pick up

Thursday 9pm – Order creation
It’s an OPT OUT SYSTEM so if you don’t want an order for the coming week, you must suspend prior to Friday 9pm. Your “WISH LIST VOTE” and any changes you wish to make to your household size must also be done by Friday 9pm. Friday- Starting Order Published
Login take up to 3 things out and JOIN SPLITS. Sunday 9pm - CUTOFF
Orders closed. Cards charged. There are 2 automatic processing’s, if those both decline - a $5 recharge fee is applied as it pays for someone to manually reprocess. You must pay BEFORE pick-up. Wednesday - PICK UP. You must pick up day of delivery at the pick-up time or arrange with Hubster. Home Delivery offered but please ask first. PAYMENTS
You must pay for your order once committed to an order cycle. Once in an Order Cycle we cannot withdraw an order. It is your responsibility to suspend the correct weeks. ORDERING SYSTEM
Dead simple. You share boxes online using the App. SUSPENDING ORDERS
When you tick the date, wait, it will turn red to confirm suspension. You’re expected to order weekly or fortnightly. STARTING ORDER
There’s a Starting Order based on your weekly ‘wish list’ VOTE and you can take out up to 3 things. Every week BEFORE Order Creation do a Wish List Vote to help Hubster (person who organisers Hub) to set up Starting Order. SHARE BOXES known as SPLITS
If you wish for more, you join Splits and share boxes. You can suggest a box to share or to your Hubster. Such as saying to your group: “Who’d like to share a box of apples?”

At order cut-off you pay automatically online (Visa or Mastercard & Secure Eway Payment gateway) then boxes from growers & food wholesalers come to the Hubster’s house for packing. You pick up from their place or they may offer home delivery. FRUIT, VEG, BREAD, EGGS – Order, pay, receive this week
GROCERIES – Order, pay, receive next week due to fresh roasting of coffee and made to order. BREAD baker direct – Minimum HUB order total is $30
GROCERIES wholesaler direct – Minimum HUB order is $75. READ THE AMOUNTS YOU ARE PURCHASING
Please check carefully if the items are single, handfuls, 500gm, 1 kg etc. Don't assume it's by one item. EXAMPLE: Cherries sold by the box, make sure you’re not putting in 5 thinking it's handfuls when it's boxes. Read the descriptions please. EXTRAS
There are ALWAYS extras as the box belongs to members so your Hubster will divvy extras when available. There is also usually a SWAP box - if you forget to customise your Starting Order, you can throw in some apples and take out some carrots that someone else did not want. You will get great value. COMMUNITY BOX
Many Hubster’s ask members if this SWAP BOX can become a COMMUNITY KINDNESS BOX given to a family in need. This is part of the Social Enterprise experience by being part of the Hub. NOT WANT AN ORDER? There are no contracts, you can suspend orders when you don’t want them. WANT EXACTLY 1 tomato 2 oranges? Then Box Divvy is not for you. This is a coop and things are in handfuls NOT exact items. You need to be flexible but you'll always get good value. We are a group of community minded people wanting to change the food system. Reduce packaging and pay our farmers fairly. By reducing our carbon footprint by 90% this means we buy in bulk as a group and then share it. We need to be a bit flexible. You will know roughly what you will get but you can’t get exact. We have a Packing Guide but the numbers will change as produce is smaller or larger. Mostly you will get extras overall. HOW DO I KNOW WHAT I SPEND? EASY. You will pay the STARTING ORDER PLUS if you join in SPLITS or ADD Groceries. At the bottom of MY ORDER you will see the MAX you will pay if all your SPLITS get over the line, any groceries you’ve ordered and the Starting Order. You can reduce the SPLITS or Groceries you joined BEFORE CUTOFF. PACKAGING
Much of the produce comes loose so please provide your Hubster with a NAME LABELLED BAG: ALSO - calico/wash nets to put handfuls in (do not expect your Hubster to provide paper bags please): Bring in your old icecream containers, for example, for the Hub to put soft stuff in. If you get an item in plastic, recycle it in your soft plastic bin. We don't interrupt the packing from the farmer. Farmers are trying to work out how to transport produce and it can’t always be plastic free - for the moment. The Sugar Cane bags are not strong, don't last and definitely not airtight. Cardboard and paper fall apart. New technology is being worked on. NOT FOR ME
If after you’ve tried it and Box Divvy is not working the way you want, then you can cancel membership. So? Join our group to make a difference. You have the power to do so. Cut your food bill significantly – Wow! The goal: to cut your food bill, without compromising on the quality, freshness and variety of food. With minimal effort, minimal packaging and food miles, and still paying farmers and suppliers a fair price for their produce.

After a relatively dry few weeks, we’re back to La Nina conditions.

On Thursday, parts of Sydney received over 100mm of rain – which made 2022 officially the wettest year since records began in 1858, with over 2.2m of rain to date – and this weekend could see another 100mm dump.

Needless to say, leafy greens are likely to be in shorter-than-normal supply – but we’re most concerned about Gerard Saad’s broccoli crop. The BoM has issued moderate flood warnings for the Hawkesbury, but if this escalates, he is at risk of losing his crop for the fourth time in two years. We’re keeping our fingers crossed 😬🤞.

The last thing we need is lose more local growers – because that’s exactly what has been happening. According to an article in The Conversation, Sydney has lost an estimated 60% of agricultural land to development over the past 10 years. If this trend continues, there won’t be much peri-urban agriculture left in the Sydney basin by 2040.

In Greater Western Sydney alone, the population is estimated to grow by 1.5 million over the next 20 years – and they need to live somewhere.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹...

Close to half of Box Divvy’s produce comes from local growers – loosely defined as within a 200km radius of Sydney’s CBD, including the Central Coast, Hawkesbury, Orange, Bathurst, Western Parklands (Horsley Park), Warragamba, Wallacia, Rossmore, Leppington and Camden.

There’s about 28 of them, give or take – depending on the season. And many of these take produce from neighbouring farms to our packing shed, so the real number is likely to be 40-50 local farms.

Local farmers play a crucial role in a bunch of ways:

• Maintaining peri-urban farming helps keep the city in check, and maintains green spaces to combat the urban heat effect that can easily make our cities unliveable when summer temperatures routinely rise to 40 degrees Celsius. Just ask anyone in Penrith…🔥
• Sydney’s average temperature has increased by 1.5 degrees Celsius over the past 100 years, and this is contributing to more intense rainfall that threatens growers and residents alike in flood-prone areas
• These growers are vital in keeping their communities economically viable: much of their income – of every dollar you spend at least 65c goes back into the farmers’ pockets – is spent in their local community, keeping the local bakery, nursery and butchers alive
• From our members’ perspective, local produce has a smaller carbon footprint and is at least 24 hours fresher than interstate produce
• Local farms tend to grow a variety of crops – rather than mono-culture – which is better for soil health, pest and w**d control, and they use fewer chemicals than large farms
• They also tend to be family farms, employing sons and daughters, nephews and cousins – rather than using labour hire firms that have been implicated in workers’ exploitation on large farms.
• Keeping urban farming in the Sydney basin helps diversify our food supply, which is vital for our food security.

That’s why it’s important to support local growers.

Box Divvy – more than any other supplier we know – is pushing their barrow as hard as we can.

03/08/2022

Hi I’m Lisa and running a Box Divvy community food Hub in Port Macquarie on a Wednesday www.boxdivvy.com.au

If you wish to join this Hub https://app.boxdivvy.com.au/register/hub/250
OR you can use SIGN UP above.

I’m a foodie and love you to be involved on this page - I’ll be sharing stories about our food ventures, growers, recipes and seeing how we can make a contribution to a sustainable food system.

I want you to know why shopping online with Box Divvy is fun, safer than a supermarket and will save you money whilst still supporting our farmers.

You’ll save up to 40% on seasonal produce, local being mostly Sprayfree and Interstate we assume conventionally grown. Groceries, bread, eggs and Meat/Seafood/Chicken.
Some grocery items will be from overseas as they are not commercially grown in Australia.

Box Divvy, is about supporting local, Backyard and Australian growers, providing fresh, accessible and inexpensive fresh food to everyone – no matter where you live or your income.

OUR COMMUNITY:
What makes Box Divvy unique is the community. It’s more than buying your food.

An initiative with partners Western Sydney Diabetes https://westernsydneydiabetes.com.au/partners we are Building Fresh Food Communities. Box Divvy offer nutritional foods rather than energy high.

There are over 5,500 families now involved in Box Divvy across Sydney, Central Coast, Blue Mountains and South Coast.

HOW DOES THIS WORK?
START ORDER: Everyone gets a Start Order. Fruit & Veg only. The amount you get is based on household size. Around 3-6 items offered, and you can omit up to 3.
SPLITS: This is OPT IN and you have a lot of control in this area of ordering.
You can add additional boxes of fruit and veg, and whatever else is offered that week like pantry items or meat (when it’s our Hub’s order cycle for meat).

Suggest a SPLIT OR join an existing Split. You put in the number of items you want. Once the Hub hits the box minimum everyone gets what they want. Help to get the minimum reached by purchasing a couple more.

This way you get more of what you want.
Example: Let's take Pink Lady apples as an example: they come in a 6Kg box with 35 apples. As soon as the number of apples requested by Hub members reaches 35, the SPLIT is 'in play'. From that point, all SPLIT requests will be honoured – be it for 1 or 10 or 100 additional apples. So long as the total number requested remains above 35.

Just enter one single value for the number of apples you really want. And wait for the rest of the Hub to follow suit.
SPLITS apply to fruit, veg and eggs. There is no change to pantry items (still subject to supplier minimum spend per Hub).

What You do, as a member, each week:
You receive an email to login and can omit up to 3 items.
Join in the Splits to get more of what you want.
Enjoy engaging on the public page with your other members sharing recipes, learning more about growers and storage tips.
Pick up your order or some Hubs may offer Home Delivery (not all).

Yes we have:

Prices for produce up to 40% cheaper than supermarkets because whilst we pay our farmers fairly, between $0.65 to $0.70 in every dollar a members spends we then, due to ou amazingly efficient distribution system are able to reduce prices for you.

Extras which are given to you every week – some weeks more some weeks less depending on availability of produce.

Reduced packaging because you provide a tub and some cloth bags for packing your orders into.
Reduced food miles because we use quite a lot of local, backyard growers.
Reduced Food waste - No storage as we use a ‘just-in-time’ system for produce PLUS the produce is cut on order so not food waste.

Weekly stories about growers, the produce, the products offered, storage tips and recipes.

Community activities at a local level like a Kindness Box or Recycling stations at the Hub (get involved and help start one).

SHOULD I WASH MY PRODUCE?:
We say yes. Whilst only the Farmer and your Hubster touch your produce you have general farm air about. Did you know that research shows an avocado on average in a supermarket gets squeezed at least 4 times. Not at Box Divvy. To see if ripe lightly push the stem and if there’s give then it’s ripe.

TWO FRUIT BOWLS:
Put heavy breathers, of ethylene gas, in one bowl - bananas, pear, apples and the rest in another. When you wish to ripen put item in paper bag then on the bench with one heavy breather and 2-3 days later ripe.

HOW TO ORDER:

We ask you order weekly or at least fortnightly as spaces in a Hub are limited.

REGISTER online https://app.boxdivvy.com.au/find-hubs
CARD: put in a debit (VISA or MASTERCARD)or credit card. No Pay Pal, AMEX.
WELCOME EMAIL: When registered look for your Welcome email. There is a USER GUIDE. Your Hubster will phone you and speak with you. If they can’t your membership will be removed.
ORDER CYCLE: In Welcome email but review this with view this with our Hubster
ORDER CUTOFF: 9pm cards charged. If it Declines 9pm an email will say auto recharge midday following day (day before Hub day). If it declines 2nd processing then Box Divvy administration will follow up and you will be charged $5 and it will be re-run 5pm (day before Hub day)
You must pay BEFORE evening of delivery.

QUALITY CONTROL:
Box Divvy is a co-op not a shop. Box Sharing direct from farmer to you – we do not store.
Great flavoursome produce but be aware we don’t tell our growers what they must pack. So produce will come in different sizes.

REDUCTION OF FOOD WASTE:
Are you on board with this?
The produce may on occasion have growing marks or branch whip on it – the way nature intended. We do not create food waste and if the produce is tasty and grown the way nature intended then we may offer ‘curly’ cucumbers.

WHAT IF I A MEMBER HAS A QUALITY ISSUE?
The Hubster takes great pride and care when packing but can’t see into items.
If you get a ‘yucky’ something let your Hubster know PRIVATELY and not in group message you have an issue. The Hubsters needs to review your issue and decide whether to give extras the following week or put in a CLAIM.

WITHIN WHAT TIME PERIOD SHOULD I CLAIM?
The Hubster can only deal on-on-one with any issue you might have. Within 24 hours of pick up please provide Hubster in private communications a photo and explain your issue.

Constructive feedback is helpful – both positive and if you have an issue. If you don’t let you’re your Hubster know they can’t aim to resolve it 😊

So join our Hub and Unsupermarket. Any questions you find unanswered on the website www.boxdivvy.com.au feel free to message me.

Box Divvy provides local communities with market-fresh, locally-grown, seasonal fruit and vegetables, helping you cook and eat better for less.
