*** YEAR LONG FLEA & TICK PREVENTION IS NOW AVAILABLE! ***

Living in coastal Port Macquarie and surrounding areas, preventative tick treatments have always been an important part of your dogs health care. But we all get busy, and sometimes these treatments can lapse, potentially placing your fur babies in danger of tick paralysis.

A yearly injection is now available, which will remove the stress associated with this.

Give us a call on 65835677, to make an appointment for your dog, to receive their Bravecto Quantum today 😎

Currently, we are treating patients in hospital for tick paralysis. Prevention will always be better than a cure, and ticks would be thriving in the recent weather we've been experiencing.

If you're not sure if this is the right prevention for you and your family, give us a call to discuss!

Steph hits the 5 year milestone 🥳❤️

Today, we celebrated Steph's 5 year work anniversary at East Port Veterinary Hospital!

Steph joined the nursing team as a recently graduated veterinary nurse and quickly found her feet.

Steph wears many hats in her role, including nursing, day to day operations as Stace's wingwoman, and most importantly, social event coordinator 🥰😜

We'd definitely be lost without her!

Congratulations, Steph, on achieving this epic milestone!

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL 😽🎅

This year has been full of many challenges within our industry, and we've had to adapt new ways, that enable us to continue to look after you and your fur babies! Thank you for trusting us to do so, and we look forward to seeing you all in 2024!

Our favourite fur kid, Eddie, turned 19 this year 💙as much as he'd have you believe otherwise, he enjoys your visits too!!!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Santa Photos this year! It was an enjoyable, chaotic morning, but well worth it ❤️ With your help, we were able to raise $1000, to help with animals in need throughout our community.

*** IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ! ***

As a result of widespread manufacturing supply issues, there is currently a critical shortage of feline vaccines available in Australia. This is expected to be an ongoing issue until early 2024.

While we have attempted to arm ourselves with enough stock to service our feline patients through this period, we have been unable to secure sufficient feline vaccine doses, for all our patients, during this time.

As such, we have been forced to implement some changes to our feline vaccination protocols in the short term, until vaccine levels return to a normal, acceptable level.

What does this mean for you and your feline family members?
We will be prioritizing the following patients, with the limited vaccine supply we have available:
🐱Previously unvaccinated kittens
🐱Cats who are due to go into a boarding facility over the Christmas holiday period
🐱Adult cats who are at higher risk of disease, such as those who are immuno-compromised

Our patients deemed healthy, adult cats, who are due for vaccination in the coming few months, will unfortunately be delayed until vaccine stock levels return to normal, in the first quarter of 2024.

If you have an upcoming, pre-booked appointment scheduled for your cat’s vaccination, one of our friendly staff will be in touch shortly.

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding in the matter – it is certainly a challenging time for everyone.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team if you have any questions.

🌸🌸 Happy Vet Nurses Day 🌸🌸

Our nursing team works incredibly hard to ensure your family members are exceptionally taken care of 🩷

The scope of their work is absolutely limitless, and each and every day, they are striving to do the best they can! Always seeking new skills and opportunities, and continuing to show up to help you and your fur kids!

It's a commitment to one another that makes this bunch so incredible ✨️

It comes with long days, stressful times, bad habits, a questionable sense of humour, but so much love in what they do!

We also celebrated our veterinary team today 🩷 blessed with the best ✨️

Is your furry friend licking more than usual?
It might be a sign of an underlying dermatological condition.
It's better to have these kinds of things seen to sooner rather than later.
Schedule an appointment today if you're concerned, and let us help find some relief for both you, and your pet!

Hope you're all enjoying the long weekend 😍

HELP!!!
We've had this little guy bought into the clinic today 🐰
He was found near The Tiller, Clifton Drive, PMQ. Entire male, Mini Lop.
He does appear to have some injuries to his ears, and some other hairless patches, but otherwise, he's ok. He's been treated with some parasite control on admission to the clinic. He's friendly but reserved, and obviously missing his family 😢
If you're missing him, please contact us on 65835677 so we can get him home. Outside of that, I guess he'll just hang here with us over the long weekend until he can be transferred to the local pound to be rehomed 🙂
NOTE - this guy is not little "Ollie" who is currently missing from the Morrish Street area.

🐍 SNAKE ALERT 👀

I know you’ve all seen or heard of this guy, hanging out at Lighthouse Beach near Watonga rocks, in the past couple of weeks. It would be naive to think he didn't have any friends out there 😳

We cannot stress enough how important it is to be on guard when taking your dogs to the beach, or bush land tracks. With the hot and dry conditions to come this Spring and Summer, we are entering a high risk period, so it’s critical to take steps to reduce the risk of a snake bite.

Dogs may not show symptoms immediately after being bitten, but may have received a fatal dose of envenomation, so it’s important to seek immediate veterinary advice - please familiarise yourselves with the symptoms of snake envenomation.

Treatment can be intensive, so the sooner you seek veterinary advice, the better chance of a favourable outcome. Snake bites may cause internal damage to kidneys, respiratory system and the musculoskeletal system, and each pet will respond differently to the effects of the snake venom.

🐹 TICK ALERT 🐱

Please ensure your pets are on some form of tick prevention for paralysis ticks. With the number of tick cases increasing every day, it's so important that your fur babies are covered. With so many monthly, and quarterly prevention options readily available, it's quite simple and cost effective.

Your pet may be suffering signs of tick paralysis, if they're exhibiting the following symptoms, although these can be variable:
- No interest in eating and slowness in activity.
- There may be change in the animal’s bark or meow
- An exaggerated swallowing action that may even sound like the animal is trying to clear his/her throat or retch.
- Regurgitation/vomiting.
- Wobbliness in his/her walking with the back legs affected most, or your pet may not be able to jump, or may wish to sit down all the time.
- Problems with their breathing that might sound like a grunting noise.

If you're concerned your pet may be suffering from tick paralysis, please contact your vet immediately.

We often have pets bought into us that have escaped, one way or another, from where they're meant to be.
When we scan these guys for a microchip, if the details aren't up to date, or registration hasn't been paid, we legally have to call the ranger. Registration involves a two-step process - firstly, microchipping of the animal, and then registration with local Council.
Please ensure that your details have been updated and are current, that change of ownership has been completed correctly by the breeder if applicable, and that the registration has been paid.
All of these things are put in place to ensure that any lost pet is returned to the correct owner. We absolutely cannot hand over a lost pet until ownership has been confirmed.
We understand this can sometimes be frustrating, but look at it like this. If your family member was lost, and we handed them over to someone else because we didn't confirm ownership correctly, how would you feel?
