If anyone from Geelong or surrounding areas wants to come and meet the pups and pluck some burs it would be so grateful thereโ€™s a lot of them and too many for me to handle on my own in such a short space of time so the pups are no longer being stung by them.
Come and meet the pups bring your kids to say hello to the pups and take part in their socialisation and naming them.

๐Ÿฅ Hospital update on our little bloke, WH Jasper.

Jasper continues to be a pretty tolerant patient, and the awesome vets at Barwon Equine Hospital are doing all they can to save his eye.

Heโ€™ll stay for a few more days, for treatment and regular assessment. They are slightly more hopeful about him keeping his eye, so please keep all the loving support flowing in!

Update; Jasper is back at the sanctuary for the weekend! Thank you to dear Carly Sutherland for transporting the dear little bloke!

Two years ago today, we farewelled our โ€œgate keeperโ€, our cherished senior boy, WH Casper.

Doesnโ€™t seem like two years, possibly because his energy is still felt at the sanctuary.

He was so precious to everyone he met, especially our Shimona, who had a very special bond with this warrior of a horse.

He left a lasting impression on so many people, and today we send a message of love to him โ€œupstairsโ€.

Hope you are running free big boy, opening gates at will, wandering up to heavenly feed sheds, and surrounded by girlfriends. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

Please send our dear very aged little Cushings bloke, WH Jasper, some eye healing vibes.

The poor boy not only lost his best friend, WH Chief, he managed to sustain an eye injury yesterday. Typical eye injury - unknown origin, very small entry point, but itโ€™s out his eye and eye sight at great risk.

Heโ€™s currently having a stay over in hospital, for a few days, to see if his eye can be saved.

Heโ€™s such a sweet little (nervy) bloke, but is being a very tolerant patient. Photo at left was when he had his teeth done by the divine Benita Thomson; notice the peafowl audience!

Weโ€™ll keep you posted. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

Some divine happy Monday photos, taken by our gorgeous volunteer, Eva!

Spent two hours making a police statement today, re the thefts of over $5000 worth of both charity and private gear, so a bit of levity is so appreciated!

Donโ€™t let the turkeys get you down (no offence to beautiful turkeys!), and when in doubt, do a huge outbreath, followed by sticking out your tongue. Iโ€™m sure itโ€™s a little known horse yogic practice ๐Ÿ˜‰

Honouring the memory of all the Jeparit Ponies (JP). Pictured below is an early photo of JP Tess, and our daughter, Jadae Bischof.

I chose a happy photo this year, as thereโ€™s enough sadness in the air at the moment.

JP Tess has been with us since 2011, after surviving the devastating destruction of so many innocent ponies.

Over 280 ponies ran wild on an 800 acre property, with the authorities deciding the way to handle the situation, was to shoot the majority of them, herded and shot at from utes, or pursued on horseback until they could run no longer.

Warrior women, Jodi Hutson, Gayle Newcombe, Tegan Aitken (RIP Teegs), Tania Decker and Zoe Aitken, led the way to secure the safety of over 140 of these dear ponies.

JP Tess still lives with us, as the lead mare of our mini herd, and we remember her family, and the whole herds, over these four days (12-15th July).

Always in our hearts, and a special mention of Tao, The Ancient One, the one eyed senior stallion we tried to save.

My Jadae, who has been such an integral part of WH, is no longer able to ride, because of a horrid car accident in 2021.

She still loves horses and cherished her gear. This pink Anky saddle blanket is one of the many items stolen, and she dearly wants it back.

I found the chest plate, that was part of Apolloโ€™s โ€œblingโ€ set, thrown onto a pile of donated gear, that is yet to be sorted. It was hanging with my bridle, so just the bridle has been stolen.

Please talk to your horsey friends, keep an eye out at anyone who suddenly has a heap of saddle blankets, rugs, and of course, the bling bridle, or the big blue handled black box, that has all the clipping gear in it.

We welcome any information. We donโ€™t want this to happen to anyone else.

Hey guys, really keen to have contacts for all agistment and riding centres on the Bellarine peninsula, so we can have a chat.

Please share this photo far and wide in the Geelong region.

Two now ex-volunteers, have been stealing donated and purchased tack, belonging to our charity, as well as privately owned, much loved property, from our sanctuary in Portarlington.

What I most want back is the bling bridle & reins, pictured below. I saved up and brought this for my Apollo, after he survived colic surgery. He died last year in October, and the bridle holds many memories.

The thieves have stolen multiple saddle blankets, rugs, even my daughterโ€™s $400 clipping set.

We caught one of them last night, after stealing a $350 brand new rug, donated by Horseland in 2018. Why not used by now? Because it arrived just after a friend was killed in NY, and I couldnโ€™t bring myself to use it yet.

Both thieves have displayed zero concern for anyone involved, and are both local horse owners, bragging that they โ€œdo their shoppingโ€ at our charity.

One drives a black Ute, with a solid black tray cover, and a customised number plate, I Wonder Wildly who it is? We do know, and Iโ€™m making a statement to police this afternoon, and will be pressing charges.

The blatant disregard for the work we do, the disrespectful treatment of our true volunteers, and self entitled attitude to life, is so disappointing.

If anyone sees this bridle being sold or used locally, please let us know.

Please lock up your horse gear if you agist locally too, just in case.

Our horse float and 4WD were also commented on by one of the thieves, and they were allegedly lining up to steal saddles and more bridles.

Who is so low as to steal from a place that is also a charity?

Vale WH Chief.

We lost one of our long term rescue boys today.

We cannot show his photo, as he was from a sensitive situation, but we wanted to honour his memory, as he was such a loved resident, and will be missed by all of our volunteers, and especially by his paddock buddy, WH Jasper.

Chiefy was a beautiful, sensitive, aged stockhorse type boy, who had a very rough time before he arrived at our sanctuary.

He was super clever, had a great skill in destroying rugs, and loved his buddy, Cushings boy, WH Jasper.

Chief had the worst dentition our dentist has seen, with a โ€œwave mouthโ€ of the worst configuration. He managed to each his (sloppy) feeds, and keep great weight, despite his teeth and age.

He slowly learnt to trust us, and Janne, our volunteer who does reiki, won him over totally. His eyes always looked the softest when she was onsite.

Chief journeyed through two salivary stone operations, while in our care, and also survived a horrific aggressive bacterial infection, that affected his face and neck. He tolerated the flushings, the wiping on of healing creams, and healed beautifully, with just two spots that never regrew hair.

His health, otherwise, was amazing. He was athletic and had a spring in his step, even yesterday.

The only hint that he may be going, in retrospect, was that he and Jasper, the last three days, spent alot of time, standing super close together, in one particular spot in the paddock.

If either had appeared unwell, we may have caught on that one of them was preparing to leave, but both seemed happy and healthy.

Weโ€™ve observed over the years, that, occasionally, when a horse/pony are near to โ€œleavingโ€, most often seen in older horses, they seem to choose the spot they are going to pass.

And so it was. Dear Chief was found this morning, in that spot, apparently having passed suddenly, during the night.

No signs of struggle. On his terms.

We are all so sad he has gone, but his memories live on in all our hearts.

Rest in peace big boy ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

Three tired floofs, after a run at the sanctuary this morning. A brisk morning, with no wind, which is so welcomed, as the peninsula tends to kick up a storm at times.

So grateful for peace, calm and serenity. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’๐Ÿค—๐Ÿค—๐Ÿค—

WE NEED SOME HELP!
Is there anyone out there with some basic computer skills and some free time? Weโ€™re hoping to find someone to help us with updating our website! Itโ€™s a basic GoDaddy website and pretty straightforward, weโ€™re just struggling for time! You don't need to have already used GoDaddy - the website guides you through how to work with it.
Generally, we would only update the website every couple of weeks โ€“ about half an hours work - but at the moment, with our CopRice Australian Brumby Challenge, it is probably about an hours work each fortnight until November.
You can do this from any location - we will email you everything you need!
If you could give us a hand, please get in touch!!

Thank you to our beautiful volunteer, Eva, for snapping this peaceful photo at the sanctuary tonight.

We are finally seeing some rain, gosh itโ€™s been a dry Autumn, and one of our dams are dry! Fortunately two others have water, and we have a private water line as well, but looking forward to decent rain.

I think our senior horses have forgotten how to handle mud underfoot, when exciting feedtime comes around, twice a day. We had two horses slip over this afternoon, due to too much action and not enough traction, so we are monitoring them for sprains and strains.

Today was a sad, but happy day, as our beloved moos, WH Eddie and WH Jeremy, moved to their forever home.

Huge thanks to Pam at Edgar's Mission for organising, and supervising their ongoing care at another sanctuary.

Our charity is downsizing, due to financial and family health challenges, with the very real possibility of closing in the near future.

We will keep everyone posted, as we work through the options.
