TRAINING CANCELLED 21/7/24
Due to extreme weather forecast and ground already being very wet underfoot we have decided to cancel training tomorrow.
Bek's agility group final session has been rescheduled to 18th Aug as wet ground makes conditions unsafe for dogs and handlers.
Stay warm and we'll see you next week :)

Good to see such a great turn out on such a drizzly morning. As promised to Foundation group (and for anyone interested) here is a good explanation on the marker word concept that we bang on about so much :)

Using a marker word in dog training is an easy way to tell your dog they got something right. Here are the steps for using a word as a clicker alternative.

A space has opened up in this 5 block seminar - if you would like to attend please inbox the club.

Just a reminder for those attending the Agility Workshop Series this Sunday that class will start promptly at 12.00. Please take 10 - 15 minutes prior to class to toilet your dog.
For class please bring a large bag of training treats. The treats need to be something soft that can be easily picked up and swallowed by your dog. There will be exercises where your dog has to pick up treats quite quickly so anything that slips down easily is perfect. Cubed meat is ideal.
Also bring along a ball or other motivational toy that your dog enjoys playing with.
Any questions please let us know ๐Ÿ˜Š

Mark Murray who is an establishment dog trainer with over 45 years experience and who has now visited Portland to run very successful seminars has had a re-print of his awesome training guide.
Although it is named for competition it covers the core training requirements including:
Engagement
Focus
Heeling
Stationary Positions
And much more

An awesome resource which is easily understood and breaks down the exercises to ensure you are able to break down the elements of the exercises to teach the correct behaviour.

The club is buying a small supply to have available for members but if you would like to secure a copy please inbox and I will pick up additional copies this weekend in Bendigo. The cost is $55.

PDOC would like to wish all our members a very Happy Easter. Enjoy the break from training and see you back on the 7th April.
We'd also like to take this opportunity to highlight the really impressive achievements of several of our members in Obedience and Rally-O trials recently.
It is so great to see all the hard work paying off for these dog and handler teams and most importantly to see how much fun they are having competing and cheering each other on.
Best of luck to our members who are heading to Mt Gambier (Blue Lake Dog Obedience Club) for their Easter trial. If you are over that way drop in and cheer them on! :)
