𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝘆𝗼 𝗙𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 can increase the impact of a 𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗰𝗼𝘄 on a stud, by 10 times!
• A genetic superior cow can produce 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀 yearly
• It is by far the 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁, 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 way to 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱 and 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 cow genetics (if handled correctly, embryos can be stored for an almost indefinite time in liquid nitrogen).
• A further advantage is that genetics can be 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 more easily.
• It also reduces the risk of 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 when live animals are transported less.

𝗟𝗲𝘁'𝘀 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹...🔬

𝗜𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝘃𝗼 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝘆𝗼 𝗙𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 is the process where a 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝘄 undergoes a 𝘀𝘆𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 and is injected with 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 (𝗙𝗦𝗛) to ensure 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘃𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝗼𝗰𝘆𝘁𝗲𝘀 (egg cells). The donor is then 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 to fertilize the multiple oocytes. After 6-7 days, the embryos are recovered through a 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗲, called Embryo Flushing.

After embryo flushing, the embryos undergo quality control to check the structure and are 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 accordingly. Only Grade 1 embryos are considered for 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 (given that it is the purpose of the program and all export protocols are in place). Grade 2 & 3 embryos have the best chance with 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿 but can be 𝗰𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱 (frozen) for use at a later stage.

The process is complete when the embryos are 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲, where the embryo develops into a foetus and grows until calving. The surrogate, or recipient mother, raises the calve as her own until weaning.

Well that’s another Quirindi Spring Show done and dusted! We had a fabulous time at the Dog Show, and we think all the children and their pets had a blast too, judging from all the lovely smiles in the pictures below! Meet Phelpsy 👋

During a recent routine visit for arthritis injections in Echuca, his owner mentioned a concerning lump on Phelpsy’s belly. It was determined that the lump needed to be removed, so this was booked in and taken care of.
