Jess and Ayla attended the first ODE of the season today, at Huntingfield.

Jess rode France and Dreamy in grade 3 and Ayla Milly in grade 4.
Lovely dressage tests from all, scoring 63%'s. On a challenging XC course, France had just one refusal, on a jump that was pulling up many and was to slow, incurring time penalties, but reliable Dreamy went double clear, Milly jumped clear but was also to slow, getting time penalties. SJ France had one pole on the first jump and Dreamy and Milly both went clear.
Jess and Dreamy finished with a 1st and Ayla and Milly with a 4th.
Super effort from both girls and ponies.
Looking forward to the rest of the season.

Thanks to Jessica's sponsors, Simon Laws farrier services and Lily Ward portraiture.

Great to have our local Huon Show up and running again last weekend.
It was a big day for all the girls, competing in led pony club, pony club rider, pony club hacking, pairs, team of three and show jumping, Jess also decided to add in fashion on the field.
It was a challenging day switching from one discipline to another, especially for Mana in her first agg show, with a last minute change of horse when Flirt went sore, but they all looked amazing, rode beautifully and did us proud.
Thanks to Simon Laws for getting their new shoes on just in time and Thanks to Vanessa for preping, they looked amazing and the judge had a struggle picking between them.

Horses are prepped and car is loaded, all ready for the Huon Show tomorrow.

Girls did a great job washing and cleaning tack, but we give a huge thank you to Vanessa and Jack for giving up most of your day today to help.
Vanessa gave Flirt, who was sore in the back, a full on treatment this morning with the Equisure, then back this afternoon to plait the three competition horses. Then a last minute fence repair after Milly and Charlie managed to wreck 3 internal fences, could have done without that.
Thanks guys xx
France, Dreamy and Sunny reckoned it was the best prep session ever.

Big thanks to Hailey for doing her make-up, Tam for her hair, Vanessa for preping and transporting France and Sarah for helping with the Lighthorse and of course Sam, Geoff and John for riding with her.

2022 PCT State Show Jumping Champs

Had a great day at the showjumping champs last Sunday.
Jess had both her girls there, France competing in grade 3 and Dreamy in grade 2.
Dreamy and Jess jumped beautifully, they placed 3rd in Equitation and 6th in the showjumping, and were part of the Huon Team placing 2nd.
France and Jess despite a nice clear Equitation round and 2 lovely clear SJ rounds, sadly failed to complete the jump off round and didn't place.
Super proud of Jess and her team. ❤

Thanks to Jessica's sponsors

And Bendigo bank for your sponsorship of the Huon Team.

Final jump club of the season tonight and Emma had her first of rein ride on Pandora, she did two very controlled rounds, I think Pandora is loving her new little rider.
Mana jumped her highest round to date, a huge improvement from her first jumping round six months ago.
Love watching the girls develope loving partnerships with their ponies.

2022 PCT State Trials
Over the long weekend Jess and I headed up to Smithton for pony club trials.
Arriving Thursday evening after the 7 hour trip, we set up camp at Circular Head Pony Club grounds. Friday was a relaxed recovery day, Jess had a ride, then plaited Dreamy before heading out to Tall Timbers for the official cross country course walk. A great course and venue, congratulations to all involved in organising and setting up the event.
Saturday was day 1 of competition, dressage day. Jess and Dreamy warmed up beautifully with the help of Fiona Fehlberg, unfortunately they lost their form a bit on entering the arena and despite having some lovely parts only scored 58%, putting them in 36th place (4th last).
Sunday was cross country, Jess was so excited to ride this course, it had a real XC feel, nicely flowing, up and down hill, creek crossings and the jumps were amazing. With their cheer squad egging them on all the way, Jess and Dreamy flew around the course, with a look of joy on both their faces. They jumped clear and were spot on with time, moving them up to 20th place.
Final day Monday was show jumping, they again jumped a lovely clear round, in time and moved up another 5 spots to finish overall in 15th place.
It was such a joy watching them and the other riders throughout the weekend.
A fantastic weekend with wonderful people.

A huge thankyou to Jessica's sponsors, you've all been a big part of making it possible.

I am so proud of what Jess has achieved with her ponies this season.
It has not been an easy run, that's for sure. It started with many events being postponed due to the wet weather, when things finally got underway, we then encountered other problems.
Having moved Dreamy up to grade 2,(a new grade for Jess, but not for Dreamy), they were having a few refusals and failed to finish a couple of times, resulting in them moving back down to grade 3, we thought she was just testing Jess to begin with (as that was her thing to do at a new grade), but as it continued we decided to get Dreamy checked over by Ewan (Kingston equine vets) to discover that she had 2 very loose teeth and was sore in the pelvis, after a course of pentosan, she is now, once again showing us how it should be done.
France was giving grade 3 a go, she started off well, but after a bout of mud fever and a cut heal and being extremely sensitive to those things, she too was having the odd refusal as well as crashing through some show jumps, feeling that she had lost her confidence, we decided to drop her down to grade 4. Being fully healed, France is again showing us that she is very capable.
Despite these hiccups Jess persevered, handling it all sensibly and responsibly, always putting the horses first.
At Huntingfield on February 20th, the last ODE for the season, Dreamy was 12th after dressage, got 20 jump penalties and 0.4 time penalties on XC and clear SJ and finished in 7th place. France was in first place after dressage, jumped clear and got 4.8 time penalties on XC and clear SJ to finish in 1st place.
Having sorted themselves out for the last few events of the season, Jess and Dreamy have qualified again for trials grade 3. So that's where we are this weekend, in Smithton for the PCT State Trials 2022.
Jess has also qualified for dressage and show jumping champs with both Dreamy and France.
We are extremely grateful to Jessica's sponsors for helping make her dreams possible.

Monday 14th we headed off in convoy with Jackie, to Kensington Park, for Derwent PC Dressage and SJ qualifier.
Ayla took Sunny out to compete in dressage, Jess had France and Dreamy for dressage and SJ and Mana took Flirt for their first dressage competition and SJ event away from home.
All girls rode extremely well, giving it their best and supported and helped each other throughout the day, so proud of them all.
Mana got 4th place in unofficial dressage and Jess and Dreamy got 3rd in dressage, 80cm and 95cm Show jumping.

Sunday 13th, Jess competed Dreamy and France at H&D's ODE.
This was France's first one back after a little break, dropping down to grade 4 to allow her to regain her confidence after a few refusals previously at grade 3, Dreamy did grade 3. Both horses rode lovely dressage tests, and jumped double clear in show jumping, they rode lovely bold XC rounds, jumping clear and only minimal time faults for being just under time.
France finished in 2nd place and Dreamy in 4th place. A very good day from both girls.
A big thanks to Jackie for stewarding for us again.

Last weekend was a huge, but enjoyable, 3 days of horse activities / events.
It started off on Saturday with our February rally, Jess took Billy (a client horse) for the experience, Mana had her favourite Flirt, Emma rode Pandora again and Zoe took Strauss for the flat lesson.

Monmouth ODE.
Had an easier day today with just Dreamy in grade 3.
After a visit from Ewan in December and treatment of pentosan, it seems we finally have our Dreamy back. It was lovely to see them working so nicely as a team, Jess thoroughly enjoying the ride.
With a good dressage test, scoring 58% and double clear cross country and show jumping they finished in 7th in a class of 14. Super proud of them both.
Thanks to Monmouth PC for hosting another great event.
Proudly sponsored by Simon Laws farrier services, Lily Ward portraiture and Maggie photography.

Sunday was a lovely day spent up at Langara Park with my beautiful girls. Filly had a groom and tail wash before a nice hose down. She has filled out so much in the last couple of months! Although its a shame about that huge chunk of rubbed out mane.
My beautiful big girl Heidi is finally going to be brought back into work after having my bub 6 weeks ago. She had a good lunge followed by a play at liberty, a wash and a new rug. Im looking forward to her saddle fit next week! And Pandora spent the morning out with Emma getting some much needed exercise at games practice with Pony Club.

On the 9th of January we had our first Pony Club rally of the year. We were thankful to have the use of Huntingfield Pony Club grounds. Jessica took France, Mana with Flirt and Emma took Pandora (Mummys pony) for only her second ride testing her out. Shes already claiming her as her own!
It was a great day out and a fantastic chance for Mana and Emma to learn more about cross country by doing small cross country courses through the bush.

After camping the night at Karoola Park, Sunday morning we heading down to Fairlands for the Lilydale ODE.
France was surprisingly relaxed being out at a strange new venue and managed to maintain it for the dressage phase, completing her most relaxed test yet, getting a score of 63%, she was a bit more excited for the SJ phase and after doing the first two well she skidded into the third, a red and white oxer, bringing down all the rails, having done the same at a very similar jump the weekend before at the summer series, I think she's scared herself and unfortunately Jess was unable to get her over it, leading to elimination. They went on to do XC but had three refusals there as well.
Dreamy after fighting Jess in warm up was also relaxed in the dressage, doing a lovely test and scoring 64%, to sit in equal 5th, She did a clear SJ round, moving them up to 4th place, Dreamy flew around XC, finishing with 1 refusal (a naughty stop at the drop into the water) and time penalties for being a minute to fast, dropping them back down to finish overall in 6th place.
Jess was very happy with both her girls.
A huge thank you to Jackie for travelling all the way up to steward for us and Ayla for helping me as groom.

Jess is proudly sponsored by Simon Laws farrier services, Lily Ward portraiture and Maggie photography.

Had a wonderful weekend with family friends and off course ponies.
Saturday morning, the boys, Heath, Will and Wilhelm cooled off with a play in the dam, and after having an investigate, the ponies watched on from the shade of the trees.
Meanwhile Mana helped Jess prepare her ponies for the Lilydale one day event on Sunday. After lunch Jess and I loaded the car and float and headed up with Dreamy and France to Lilydale pony club grounds for the night.

Last Sunday 28th November was Monmouth ODE.
Jess took Dreamy in grade 2 and France in grade 3.
Dreamy did an average dressage test, heading to warm up for XC Dreamy was a bit flat, she picked up a bit heading to the start box and jumped jump 1 nicely but then refused jump 2 (apparently a bit of a bogey for Dreamy) continuing around the course she really wasn't into it and was again eliminated due to refusals. Jess decided not to do the SJ round with her.
France however did really well, had a nice dressage test with 59%, she went great around XC until the last jump when they got a technical run out when France seeing the finish line, shot straight out of the water, having to re enter for the last jump. They then went on to go clear in show jumping, they did receive time penalties but finished in 3rd.
Thanks Monmouth PC for running a great day.

On 27th November we attended the Hoofbeats Gymkhana.
Jess took France along for the outing and Mana went to her first ever Gymkhana with Flirt. It was a lovely day amongst great friends, so nice to see so many of our Huon pony club riders there.
Both girls had a great day.
Mana did extremely well in the topsy ring, gaining several ribbons in both in hand and ridden classes, she then went on and rode the 30 and 40cm show jumping rounds. I think it will be the first of many.
Jess wasn't expecting much from France but was pleasantly surprised, she was very chilled and responsive winning several ribbons in a class of 9 and taking out champion open Junior. France also earned champion OTTB in hacking and after two 3rds in show jumping got OTTB show jumper, to take out overall OTTB champion.
