I am so proud of what Jess has achieved with her ponies this season.
It has not been an easy run, that's for sure. It started with many events being postponed due to the wet weather, when things finally got underway, we then encountered other problems.
Having moved Dreamy up to grade 2,(a new grade for Jess, but not for Dreamy), they were having a few refusals and failed to finish a couple of times, resulting in them moving back down to grade 3, we thought she was just testing Jess to begin with (as that was her thing to do at a new grade), but as it continued we decided to get Dreamy checked over by Ewan (Kingston equine vets) to discover that she had 2 very loose teeth and was sore in the pelvis, after a course of pentosan, she is now, once again showing us how it should be done.
France was giving grade 3 a go, she started off well, but after a bout of mud fever and a cut heal and being extremely sensitive to those things, she too was having the odd refusal as well as crashing through some show jumps, feeling that she had lost her confidence, we decided to drop her down to grade 4. Being fully healed, France is again showing us that she is very capable.
Despite these hiccups Jess persevered, handling it all sensibly and responsibly, always putting the horses first.
At Huntingfield on February 20th, the last ODE for the season, Dreamy was 12th after dressage, got 20 jump penalties and 0.4 time penalties on XC and clear SJ and finished in 7th place. France was in first place after dressage, jumped clear and got 4.8 time penalties on XC and clear SJ to finish in 1st place.
Having sorted themselves out for the last few events of the season, Jess and Dreamy have qualified again for trials grade 3. So that's where we are this weekend, in Smithton for the PCT State Trials 2022.
Jess has also qualified for dressage and show jumping champs with both Dreamy and France.
We are extremely grateful to Jessica's sponsors for helping make her dreams possible.
