Spring is finally near and as we transition out of the cold winter months, it's essential to ensure our furry friends are ready to embrace the change.

💦 Spring clean their fur with a nice lukewarm bath and dog-friendly shampoo.
🎀 Brush your pet's coat regularly to help remove loose hair from their winter coat, prevent matting, and keep their fur healthy and shiny.
✨ Clean their ears, trim their nails and check their paw pads for dry spots or fur that might need to be trimmed.
🪲Keep up-to-date with flea and tick protection.

Remember, grooming is a great opportunity to bond with your furry friend. Here’s to a fantastic spring filled with lots of tail wags and adventures!

🔥 When using indoor fires or heaters, remember these pet safety tips:

- Supervise Open Flames: Pets are curious! Keep an eye on them around candles, fireplaces, or any open flames to prevent accidents.

- Secure Heating Sources: Make sure heaters and radiators are stable and out of reach to prevent burns or tipping over.

- Screen Fireplaces: Use a sturdy screen to block pets from getting too close to the fireplace. This protects them from sparks and hot surfaces.

- Check for Cozy Hideouts: Cats especially love warm spots, so check dryers, heaters, and other warm spots before using them.

- Maintain Ventilation: Ensure proper ventilation when using heaters to avoid carbon monoxide buildup, which is harmful to pets and humans alike.

Let’s keep our pets warm and safe this winter! 🐶🐱❤️

🌞🐾 Supporting Wildlife in the Summer Heat! 🦎

Our native wildlife may struggle during summer heat waves, and they need our help! Here's how you can make a difference:

🍶 Provide Water for native animals to enjoy.
🚿 Use a hose to mist your garden in the morning or late afternoon, creating a cooler space for birds and possums.
🌡️ Recognize Heat Stress: Unusual behavior in wildlife may signal heat stress.
☎️ Seek Professional Help: If you find a heat-affected animal, note where you found it and contact us or a local wildlife organisation for guidance.

Let's ensure a safe and cool summer for our wildlife friends! 🌿

🤔 Does the thought of travelling your beloved cat to the vets make your hair stand on end? Do you put off important vet check ups because it's too stressful to bring your cat to the vet? 🐈✨🏥

Bringing your cat to the vet doesn't have to be stressful! We hope you find our top tips for your next vet visit helpful:

1️⃣ Prep for your visit by talking to your cat in a calm, soft voice and giving them extra affection and treats.

2️⃣ Choose a suitable carrier that's comfortable, warm, and spacious. Plastic carriers are the easiest to clean.

3️⃣ Break the carrier aversion! Keep the carrier open at home, enticing your cat to snooze or dine inside. Shift the association of it to positive experiences.

4️⃣ If your cat panics, wrap your cat in a blanket and place both in the carrier. Keep the carrier covered with a familiar-smelling towel or Feliway-sprayed blanket for added calmness.

5️⃣ Handle the carrier carefully. When driving, secure it in the footwell or on a seat with a seatbelt. 🚗sca

Fireworks can be stressful for them, so create a safe space, ensure they are secure and unable to run-away, and consider using calming products to help them relax.

The Clinic by the Beach

Our friendly, compassionate veterinarians and nurses have been treating local cats and dogs in our current location since 1987, though our practice has been established for a much longer time prior to this. The clinic was owned by Pat for many years and then was bought by Maris Eastgate who worked for Pat before taking over as principle veterinarian and owner in 2003.
