We picked up our club awards yesterday, a total of 15 for MonElite dogs (Bliss, Luna, Rocky, Cynder, Envy) including prestigious Register Of Merit award for Bliss.
We love ribbons so Alex covered me with all we received 😝

Here is a million photos from the Dog Lovers Festival where we represented the breed at the Dobermann Club of NSW stand.
Today we had Monika and Yuri with Ossa, Ela with Mila, Beata with Mia and Alex with Cynder and Hex.
Endless people petted them all, we were at the Dogs NSW “ask a breeder” stand, pet a pooch and Cynder competed at dog diving, placing third in semi pro category.
Exhausting day!
Dogs were amazing, it’s such a difficult environment for them, and they handled it with no problems.

I want to share my short scent work journey and maybe some people will become interested in this great sport.
8 years ago I signed up for an intro to scent work course (this is before Envy was born!). I bought a scent kit, put it in the cupboard, never took it out, just lost interest.

When the litter of 16 were growing up and going through the "teenage" months La Bella Luna was a pest of a puppy and I recommended to her owner Sonya, a sport that I thought might occupy the dog's mind. Off they went on their journey and started competing.

Late December last year Envy at the age of 6.5, basically retired from sports, was being an annoying dog, with not enough mental stimulation, so I thought I might try the scent work, just at home, to keep her mind occupied. I dug out the kit I bought 8 years ago and discovered that the cue tips still had some smell to them! So, I threw one in a box and when Envy went to sniff it, I marked it and rewarded it. It took her 3 repetitions to understand what I want. In a day or two, in short sessions, she would find the scent in my house in various locations, with no problems. I sent a video to Sonya and got a reply - wow, you could enter a trial. So I did! Trial date was 19.1.24.

In the Xmas and NY break I went away, never trained. Got back and practiced couple of times where Envy totally destroyed all the boxes. She only knew how to search birch.
3 days before the trial I realised that the odour used in the trial is clove! And I had none! Carole came to the rescue with one of her fabulous kits. I had 2 days to teach Envy another odour.
Went to the trail with the view that if we fail, I'm never doing it competitively again. I also put my hand up to steward at that trial in excellent. That meant that we went last in our class to compete. Later I found out that it's probably a disadvantage to be last. Didn't seem to matter to clever dog Envy because she passed, under lovely judge Rachelle Tiah. The photos of Envy sniffing the boxes is from that first trial. That meant I must continue LOL

I was hooked in no time, seeing how much the dogs enjoy it and how easy or how very complex this sport can be.
From first trial on 19.01.24 to last weekend 17.08.24 Envy has gained two scent work titles, SW Novice and SW advanced. We competed in total of 18 trials, failed 3 times (in advanced).
Looks like I have a very talented dog and it probably helps I'm not a bad trainer 🙂 I probably will continue competing, time permitting.

As this is a sport with no onlookers, I don't have many photos, however last weekend lovely Sue Town took some pictures outside, so that I could remember the day we titled.

Yesterday we have reached another huge milestone, and Envy gained her Scent Work Advanced title at the trial held by The Dobermann Club of NSW.
With that, she now meet all the requirements for the most prestigious award a dobermann can get in Australia - Register of Merit (approvals pending). Around 80 dogs achieved it in the history of Australian dobermanns.
She is my 3rd personal dog and a third MonElite (one doesn’t live with me) that reached the ultimate award, so I now have 3 dogs at home that have ROM titles and each one has also got a BH.
She is the most talented l, yet probably the most challenging dog I have ever had. I’m not sure if I’ll continue trialing her, she needs one more pass in obedience, one more pass in rally, one more pass in tracking to get 3 additional titles. And she likes scent work, so maybe we will continue with that sport. Or she could just retire and do nothing that earn ribbons and trophies, just splash in the pool and chase birds if she likes 😜

Huge congratulations to Liza with Lucah for obtaining the UDX title in style getting high in trial with 196 points.
We believe that Lucah is the first dobermann in Australia to gain that title, alongside the array of well over 20 performances titles is the most titled dobermann in Australia.

Today I got pushed way beyond my comfort zone in scent work seminar run by Sniff and Learn.
And Envy smashed it. I need a vodka to decompress from the stress of having her off lead in open areas with people and dogs.
This was our first search the easiest out of all we’ve done today.
We have also searched an area roughly size of half of football field and an indoor basketball court.
This get a feeling the presenters liked Envy 😍. And I bet they are still laughing at me stressing 😜

Pass number 6 out of 9 needed for a Scent Work Advanced title for Envy. This time she passed container element at The Dobermann Club of NSW trial.
We didn’t get a qually in vehicles, I was almost the last person in the ring, she false indicated on the distractor. I’m very happy I had the search filmed and watching it learned so much! I certainly did not help her and didn’t make her search all the vehicles properly. Live and learn, you still are amazing my Envy.

Dobermanns and eating stuff they shouldn’t!!!!!!
I’ve been doing some scent work training and put the scent in the plastic tube and then in a box (training containers)
She typically smashes the boxes and this wasn’t different, she indicated by getting her head in the box.
We finished and of course I can’t find the tube with scent. She always picks the tubes up but spits them out. Well… not this time! She ate it!!
Panicking phone calls to friends, vets, vet nurses. On advise from one of my besties Lisa I shoved a tablespoon of salt with honey to her mouth. She supposed to vomit in few minutes. 30 min later, nothing. Another dose, 30 min later, nothing. Iron stomach! Another dose and frantic call to the vet. And when I was on the phone she pucked it out.
