The importance of toys and social play 🐶🐾

Socialisation and interactive toy play can be very beneficial for a dogs mental health and reinforce positive socialisation practices. Toy play aids in keeping pooches stimulated, entertained, happy and healthy.

Playing is a rewarding experience for dogs and helps counteract the effects of stress. Toys also promote natural behaviours such as foraging, exploring, and playing.

This is why the toys we have available for all dogs to play with at all times are different shapes, sizes, colours, and textures. This enhances a dogs ability to learn and encourages social behaviours in a group environment, along with stimulating their senses via exploration. Rotation of toys can also prevent boredom leading to destructive behaviour such as chewing and digging.

Play is so important for social, physical, and cognitive development and can prepare animals for the unexpected, helping to desensitise them leading to less anxiety.

Dogs are curious by nature and we absolutely love watching them explore, learn and grow from their experiences in our care.

SENSORY ENRICHMENT 🐶🐾

Giving your dog opportunities to explore and activate their senses is not only exciting but also very important for their wellbeing!

Sensory enrichment/environmental enrichment encourages dogs to use their senses to explore their surroundings. Touch, sight, feel, taste, and sound all come in to play.
This is why we rotate the areas the dogs spend their time in on the property multiple times daily. To facilitate sensory enrichment and avoid repetition. We spend time in the play paddock with equipment. Also other open areas to play with toys that range in size, colour, texture, and shape. We go for walks through different areas, and we spend time down by the river and the dam.

All of these areas and changing environments offer different smells, sights, textures, tastes, and sounds.

THE BEST!!! When your mum is a groomer and has a last minute cancellation and you get a green heart on your chest, the white of your tail ‘greened’ and and a mani pedi with special pink polish! 💅🐾🐶🤣😍😍😍
I love getting these updates on the pups even when they’re not with me, it puts the biggest smile on my face and warms my heart 🥹 so blessed to spend two days a week with this gorgeous boy 🥰

Atticus has the best personality and despite his size is the most gentle dog that frequents our play days 🥰🐾💕

ENRICHMENT AND STIMULATION IS KEY!!!

Yes being on a property offers our boarders and day play pooches a lot of space to stretch their legs, run, play, socialise, and burn excess energy but we have designed everything to offer so much more!

The design of our play paddock is for environmental enrichment 🙌🏼
It makes the environment more complex and dynamic providing more stimulating cognitive challenges, opportunities to make choices, control social interactions, and behave in more diverse ways.

Enrichment gives the pups a creative outlet for physical activity and mental exercise, as well as choice and control over how they spend their time. It promotes increased physical fitness and adaptability.

How gorgeous is Poppy! She originally came to stay with us while her family were away and since then attends play days. Her mum sent me these photos of her after I dropped her home… by the front door looking for me/waiting to come out again. How beautiful!!!! Melt my heart ❤️🐾🥰🐶

Meet Miss Josie ❣️
Such a sweetheart! She comes and stays with us regularly as her mum has to travel for work. Josie is always so excited when I arrive to collect her and loves her time with us. She wakes up so excited for her day of running, play with toys, fetch and her favourite part of the day is our sunset walk and play in the river after dinner. She gives the best cuddles and kisses and brings so much joy just to be able to witness her love life so much every minute of the day 🐾💕🥰

I absolutely love that we create such a ‘safe space’ for the dogs to be and play that even in a group play environment they feel comfortable and safe enough to lay down and take a time out, or even a nap, when they need it.

Some of our clients travel for work, are unwell, injured/physically unable to exercise their dogs, have new babies, have cleaners come in for the day etc… so many reasons people love having us to help out by taking their dogs for home stays and/or play days. I LOVE getting thank you messages after dropping their fur babies home with photos of their four legged loved ones happily exhausted and resting. They get their mental stimulation, physical exercise, love/affection/attention, and socialisation. They go home fulfilled and content.
This is Beau, he’s a big boy now but I’ve had the absolute pleasure of caring for him since he was a young pup. He went home this afternoon and put himself to bed for a nap, got up for dinner, cuddles, and toilet. Then put himself straight back to bed. Very helpful for a mother with a newborn who needs her rest 💕

Some of the owners over time have sent videos and photos of them waiting for me and often laugh telling me they made the mistake of telling them to early that ‘Claire is coming’ 🤣
This is Milko… a young Labrador who has been coming out for only a few months, started when he was 6 months old. He watches out the window at the driveway from the moment his mum puts his brace on and says Claire is coming today. Bless he is beautiful 😍🐾

Well yesterday was extremely hot, however, all the pups still managed to run, play and have a great day 😀 due to having the water play incorporated in our day pups are able to cool off and play in the cool water, or even lay in it should they choose to do so. We’ve even had dogs start with us that are scared of and/or dislike water and after watching the others play and being able to take everything at their own pace have grown confidence and ended up loving it!

Apologies to all my amazing clients for not having posted in a while. It has certainly been very busy over the ‘silly season’ with a lot of precious fur babies coming and going for their puppy holidays while their families were away or busy with work.
