Is your dog getting the right kind of exercise each day? 🐕🤷‍♀️

Exercise for a dog can vary greatly between breeds and getting each individual dogs’ exercise requirements right can be a learning curve and take some tweaking. It can also be the difference between a satisfied and content dog at the end of the day or a dog that is still hyper and displays behavioural problems.

👉 What does exercise look like?
Lead walks, a game of fetch or a run at the park/beach are the most common forms of exercise opportunities dog owners provide for their dog but there is a world of other types of exercise that might be even more beneficial for the overall physical and mental wellbeing of your pooch.

Think of activities that get the blood pumping 💪 and the brain 🧠 thinking at the same time!

Variety is important, but what we really want to highlight is mental stimulation and engaging with your dog is always going to be better than freeplay at the dog park.

Here’s some ideas:
- Head to a park, bushland or oval down the end of your street and do some scent games and recall training on a long line.
- join a local obedience, agility or another group training class.
- integrate random training sessions at each road crossing into a daily walk.
- teach your dog to ‘find it’ in the house or back yard.
- teach your dog how to wait until you say fetch after throwing a tennis ball.

So if your dog doesn’t quite seem satisfied at the end of the day and you feel like you are going above and beyond with their daily exercise, consider alternative forms of exercise and see if that results in a more content pooch.
On the flip side, have you altered your dogs mental and physical activity and seen a change in their behaviour for the better? Share some ideas below for others to try.
