The topic of :
Owing rats comes with allot of responsibilities, as you should know by your previous research before buying such a small delicate animal. The living hygiene conditions of rodents is especially important such as regular cage cleaning, rats cages should be regularly cleaned atleast twice a week and deep cleaned once per week (fully scrubbed down and washed out with an appropriate cage cleaner).
For cage cleaners I advise:
Hot water with a small ammount of vinegar does the job but make sure you thoroughly rinse with plain water after , or for shop bought cleaners you have to be particularly careful with the amount and what sort of chemicals it contains as they can do more harm then good.
As for elderly or disabled rats;
Elderly and disabled/special needs may not be able to clean themselves properly for this I suggest you develop a routine of using a cotton sawb or qtip with Luke warm water to clean their privates and any other place that gets particularly dirty.
