Spring has sprung
Time to get mares scanned and off to their boyfriends.

Trying to get Hells bitch just right is proving to be a challenge.

I have a great vet on board so I’m not stressed.

If you’re a mare owner going through this there’s a few things you need to do.

Get there feet done before they go. They could be there for weeks.

Worm them. They are going to someone else’s place. Be a considerate owner.

Make sure their tet strangles is up to date it’s better to do this while they are empty.

Get the teeth sorted. It can literally be the difference between a live foal and another heartbreak story. Do it before they go.

And make sure they are in good condition. It really helps.

Good luck and may the odds be forever in your favour.

With foals hitting the ground, now is a good time to revise the 1,2,3 rule of a healthy mare and foal

✨️ At around 1 hour after being born, the foal should stand
✨️ The foal should be drinking after 2 hours
✨️ The mare has hopefully dropped all of the afterbirth at around 3 hours post foaling

Share some pics of your new babies 💕

This is obviously not a recent picture due to the green grass, this was December 2020 with my lovely mare Comma and her c**t foal, Baybellum Just James, who is now 5 years old!

MEDIA RELEASE | Veterinarians urge vigilance and vaccination following Hendra virus case in Queensland

Equine Veterinarians Australia (EVA), a special interest group of the Australian Veterinary Association (AVA), has reinforced the importance of vaccination and biosecurity after Biosecurity Queensland today confirmed a case of Hendra virus in an unvaccinated horse in south-east Queensland.

Dr Laura Hardefeldt, EVA President, expressed strong support for the veterinarian who managed the case and reiterated the critical role of horse owners in preventing the spread of this deadly disease.

“We commend the referral veterinarian for their swift and professional response, which undoubtedly helped contain the risk to people and other animals,” said Dr Hardefeldt.

“This case is a stark reminder that Hendra virus remains a real and present threat. Vaccination is the best defence we have to protect horses, veterinarians, and the broader community.”

I thought this pic was really cool ❄️❄️

Freeze branding just doesn’t smell right though.

Studly Roy is now two stone lighter and branded.

He really is a good boy. Didn’t try maul anyone when he got dropped.

Pretty interesting that a 5 year old stud with a weeks handling can safely be needled cut and branded yet I constantly get in situations that terrify me with 13 year old heart horses that have been lovingly cared for their whole lives. 😂🤔

Thanks Kris for a stress free job.

Following on from the post last week regarding the quick acting tetanus shortage, I thought we would review how to correctly vaccinate your horse against tetanus. You have the option of the tetanus toxoid (T), which guards against tetanus alone, or a combined 2 in 1,which will protect you horse against tetanus and strangles
💉 Equivac T - 2 shots one month apart and then an annual booster
💉 Equivac 2 in 1 - 1 x 2 in 1, 2 weeks later - Equivac S (strangles), 2 weeks after that -2 in 1. Annual booster after that.
🐴 if you are unsure of your horses vaccination history, it is best to start the course again.

Tetanus antitoxin injections (quick acting tetanus) are currently unavailable. Now is a good time to reassess your horses tetanus vaccination status. If your horse is vaccinated correctly, you do not need to worry about giving an antitoxin when they injure themselves, it is just a yearly booster.
