Love this age .. 5 weeks old and puppies are so happy, lots playing and gaining confidence. We are experiencing frequent tropical summer afternoon thunder and lightning, and puppies are taking it all in their stride and are so brave.

🔥🐾 Heatstroke: A Serious Risk for Pets This Summer🐾🔥

As the temperatures soar this holiday season, heatstroke is a very real and very risky concern for our pets. Unlike us, pets can’t sweat to regulate their body temperature efficiently, making them far more vulnerable to overheating. Heatstroke is a medical emergency. If left untreated, it can lead to organ failure and even death. On extra hot days like today avoid walking your pets at any time, as they will struggle to regulate their temperature or cool down even when the sun is not out.

Here’s what every pet owner needs to know:

🚨 Signs of Heatstroke in Pets:

Excessive panting or rapid breathing
Drooling or thick, foamy saliva
Weakness or collapse
Vomiting or diarrhoea
Bright red or pale gums
Confusion or disorientation

If you notice any of these symptoms, act fast:

Move your pet to a cool, shaded area.
Offer them cool (not cold) water to drink.
Use a damp cloth or spray cool water on their body, especially around the paws and belly.
Contact us immediately

Here’s how to protect your furry friends from the heat:

🌞 Avoid Midday Heat: Limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day—early morning or late evening walks are best. The ground can get extremely hot and burn their paws. If the ground is too hot for you to walk on barefoot, then your pet shouldn't either!

💧 Fresh Water is a Must: Ensure your pet always has access to plenty of clean, fresh water to stay hydrated.

☀️ Shade and Cool Spots: Provide a cool, shaded area for your pet to rest. Never leave them in a parked car, even for a minute, as temperatures can soar rapidly.

Keep pets indoors during extreme heat whenever possible, especially if they’re older, brachycephalic breeds, overweight, or have health issues.

This summer season lets make sure our pets are safe from the dangers of heatstroke. If you have any concerns about your pet’s health, don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re here to help.

This is something everyone should see. This xray is of a 2 week old puppy.

When you get your 8/10 week old puppies, please keep this image in mind. Their bones do not even touch yet. They plod around so cutely with big floppy paws and wobbly movement because their joints are entirely made up of muscle, tendons, ligaments with skin covering. Nothing is fitting tightly together or has a true socket yet.

When you run them excessively or don't restrict their exercise to stop them from overdoing it during this period you don't give them a chance to grow properly. Every big jump or excited bouncing run causes impacts between the bones. In reasonable amounts this is not problematic and is the normal wear and tear that every animal will engage in.

But when you're letting puppy jump up and down off the lounge or bed, take them for long walks/hikes, you are damaging that forming joint. When you let the puppy scramble on tile with no traction you are damaging the joint.

You only get the chance to grow them once. A well built body is something that comes from excellent breeding and a great upbringing-BOTH, not just one.

Once grown - around 12-18 months depending on their breed, you will have the rest of their life to spend playing and engaging in higher impact exercise. So keep it calm while they're still little baby puppies and give the gift that can only be given once.
