💜Meet Alistair 💜

7 years ago I saw a post on my local fb group about a cat that had lived on a property for at least 4 years that the land owner had first noticed him, always keeping his distance would never come close to humans.

Until one day they noticed him limping and was starting to come closer but still spooked easily. His hunger had finally over ridden his fear of humans. I asked the owner to create a little covered bed area and hopefully he will start to use it and with regular timed feeding would start to expect dinner and would hopefully start to associate people with something positive.

A few days later I got the call he was in the little sleeping area. I turned up fully expecting to get the living daylights beat out of me but he was so worn down he just accepted me picking him up and putting in the cat carrier.

I rushed him to the vet fully expecting his leg to not be saved. It took months of care but we managed to save his leg and you couldn’t even tell he had an injury.

Being able to work with land owners is what allows me to save animals. It really is a community effort and I am so thankful to all the people that care about the forgotten cats.

Street Purr Rescue has been operating in nsw since 2015 preferring to be behind the scenes of other rescues and started again helping local rocky rescues when I moved back to Rockhampton in 2021.
With the huge stray cat population and no local rescue focused solely on local cats I decided to be a bit more visible and step out from behind the other rescues.
My focus is on street cats by humane street trapping, rehabilitating and desexing. I am more than happy to help members of the public if you notice a stray cat in need. I also have a microchip scanner more than happy to check chips.

I honestly never thought I’d see this moment five months ago when I got the call for help trapping a cat that was very poorly. It’s only been a month ago iv been able to pick him up and he’s been enjoying me petting him and pulls the most adorable face.
He has really bonded to the Wattle St feral kitten, well really I think they needed each other. They have helped each other more than I could ever help them by themselves.

WOW IM SPEECHLESS Violet was caught in my trap while trying to catch an injured stray, she’d been hanging around for 6 months. Luckily she was microchipped and her family just picked her up she’d been missing for 14 MONTHS

A ✨FLANK SPAY✨ is when the incision is made on the left side (flank) of the body rather than on the midline of the abdomen. The spay procedure is the same as performed during the midline incision and the same reproductive organs are removed with both procedures.

Performing the flank incision is also beneficial if the cat has nursing kittens. Since the flank incision is not made near the mammary glands, the female is able to be sterilized and her kittens can continue to nurse following surgery. Using the flank incision is more comfortable for the mother during postoperative recovery, and there is a lower risk of evisceration, because the nursing kittens are not pulling at the incision site like they would be if a midline incision was performed. In addition, mother cats often have large mammary glands from nursing. During a midline incision, excessive bleeding and leakage from the mammary glands can cause infection; this is avoided with the flank incision.
