Your pet's microchip is only useful if the details connected to it are up to date. If you've moved house, changed phone numbers, or your pet has a new owner, you must update your details on the microchip registry.

You can find which microchip registry your pet is on by going to petaddress.com.au. It takes just a few minutes online and could be the difference between being reunited with your lost pet or not. 🐾

Take a moment today to check your pet’s microchip details and make sure they are up to date.

If you have an older cat, you’re probably a bit worried about them when you go away. Before using a boarding facility, make sure they know about any medications, dietary requirements, or health conditions your senior cat has. 🐱

A pre-boarding check-up is a good idea to ensure your cat’s in good shape and to help the facility understand their needs before boarding. With a little preparation, senior cats can have a comfortable and stress-free stay.

Book a pre-boarding health check with our team today to make sure your cat’s ready for their stay!

Did you know that a lot of pet heart murmurs (abnormal heart sounds) are detected as an incidental finding during a routine check-up? ❤️

Whilst we don’t love diagnosing potential heart issues in pets, we DO love being able to pick up on any abnormal heart sounds early, so we can offer your pet the most proactive assessment, monitoring and care. 🐾

In the case of mitral valve disease (one of the most common types of heart disease in dogs), early treatment can significantly delay the onset of heart disease symptoms.

We’d recommend every pet receives a full health assessment every 6–12 months. To see if your pet is due for a check-up, check in with our friendly team! 🐶

Getting to snuggle your adorable puppy or kitten is only PART of the reason why we like to do new pet health checks! 🐾

We also recommend these timely check-ups because they help us ensure your new family member is receiving the right preventative health treatments, plus allow us to assess them for any obvious health issues.

These could include congenital issues (problems that your pet was born with, such as loose kneecaps), husbandry issues (e.g. an unbalanced diet that could affect growth), or infectious diseases (such as fleas or tummy worms). 🐶🐱

For a thorough assessment (and cuddling) of your new pet, book a consult with our friendly vets!

Prior to your pet undergoing a surgical or dental procedure, we may chat to you about pre-anaesthetic blood tests. 💉

Pre-anaesthetic blood tests can give us an indication of a pet’s liver and kidney health and can also help us to check for other problems such as anaemia. This helps us to pre-emptively detect some health issues that could affect your pet’s ability to safely cope with certain anaesthetic drugs or other medications.

Therefore, pre-anaesthetic blood tests are a useful “peace of mind check” for any pet, but are particularly recommended for older pets or those more likely to have underlying health conditions.

For more information on our anaesthesia safety policies, consult our experienced vets. 🐾

Just like in people, omega-3 fatty acids have great health benefits for pets! 🐱

Appropriate doses of omega-3 fatty acids support your pet’s cardiovascular, brain and skin health and will reduce inflammation, which can help control arthritis, kidney disease, allergic symptoms and more.

However, simply feeding your cat some fish a few times a week may not allow them to take in the therapeutic omega-3 quantities required for maximal health benefits. 🐟

For personalised advice on an effective and safe fish oil dose for your pet, consult our supplement-savvy team.

We’ve seen a few pet-parents get tripped up by misleading pet food labels, so our team would love to put out a PSA (Pet Service Announcement)! 📢

Unless your pet’s food is a specially formulated “Single Protein Diet”, it’s likely that the protein listed on the front of the packet (e.g. chicken, beef or fish) is just a flavour, and the food will contain other protein types too.

So, if you think your dog or cat may have a food-related sensitivity or allergy that is causing recurrent tummy upset or skin irritations, it’s best to consult our veterinary team for personalised advice on how to carry out a safe and effective hypoallergenic dietary trial. 🐾

We’ve noticed a recent trend of owners being encouraged to feed their dogs blueberries as a regular component of their diet. ❓🐶

Blueberries are safe for dogs and, being high in fibre, antioxidants and vitamins A, C and K, they can be a yummy, natural, health-boosting snack too. 🫐

But does your dog need to eat blueberries every day? No – provided they’re already eating a quality, complete and balanced diet. So, if blueberries are a bit pricey in the shops, save them for a special, healthy treat for your pet!

For more pet dietary advice, consult our nutritionally-knowledgeable team.

Do you know why cats can’t survive on dog food long-term? 🐱

It’s because dog food doesn’t contain enough taurine to meet feline nutritional requirements. Taurine is an essential amino acid for cats, meaning it must be supplied in adequate levels in their diet because they have a limited ability to produce it within their body.

A deficiency of taurine in your cat’s diet will eventually lead to degeneration in their eye and heart health. ❤️

For advice on a complete, balanced diet for your cat, consult our feline-friendly team.

Did you know that the wellness check associated with your pet’s annual vaccination helps us to detect any developing health problems earlier? This means we can start helping your pet sooner – hooray! 🐾

To get the maximum value from your pet’s consultation, don’t forget to mention any subtle changes in their general condition or activities at the time of booking. These include:
✅ New lumps
✅ Unexplained weight changes
✅ Changes in their drinking levels
✅ Changes to their urination habits
✅ Changes in their poo quality
✅ Behaviour changes

🧼 Does your pet have itchy or inflamed skin, particularly as the weather begins to warm? Prescription or medicated shampoos can help manage allergic skin disease and soothe irritation.

There are lots of different types of shampoos depending on your pet’s particular needs. Ask us if a medicated wash could benefit your pet’s skin health. 🐶

🦶 Licking or redness between your dog’s toes can be caused by allergies, grass seeds, injuries or infections. In Spring, we see an increase in both allergic skin disease as well as injuries caused by penetrating grass seeds.

Dogs with particularly hairy feet and toes tend to be at increased risk. Persistent irritation to your pet’s skin should be checked by a vet without delay, as early treatment can prevent worse outcomes. ✅
