Melrose Wildlife Rescue Rehabilitate & Release

Melrose Wildlife Rescue Rehabilitate & Release Melrose Wildlife provides Rescue, Rehabilitation & Release throughout the greater Gippsland Region

Melrose Wildlife provide Rescue, Rehabilitation and Release services throughout the Gippsland region & beyond. We are a volunteer service and all our animals are cared for until they are ready for release. This is all done with no funding, only with donations from our caring community, which we value very much and appreciate. As we rescue more animals ongoing costs escalate with fuel, formulas, ha

rd feed, vet bills and medication. All donations go directly towards the care of our Native Wildlife. So if you feel you'd like to contribute, you can directly deposit into our Melrose Wildlife Account. We appreciate any help you can give us & all donations over $2 are tax deductible. Thank you for your support :)

I say it again and again….
It’s just a phone call…
You hit an animal…please I beg of you, please make the call !!!

This poor little girl was last seen mid morning struggling by a busy roadside.
She was a tiny little girl, she would have been following her mob to safety, but this wasn’t to be.
Her little body was so so broken😞
The driver that hit her made the decision to not make the call for help, leaving her little broken body by the roadside.

If not for a lovely member of public making the call she would have continued to lay out there for days suffering. Eventually succumbing to starvation and infection.
Rest Peacefully now beautiful girl 😥🙏🦘

Late afternoon call out New Years Eve from a lovely member of public, Angie.
Driving through Rosedale Longford road Angie noticed this large roo injured and still lying by the roadside.
The big roo was still alive, sadly left by the roadside to suffer after a collision with a vehicle. Unfortunately the driver did not call this big majestic roo in and chose to leave him to suffer by the roadside with horrific injuries.

This happened about 12km from our place, we know the mob & that this is a pathway for them to move through their bush.
Sadly we euthanized this big roo, we ended his pain and suffering and moved him to a safe place that the mob could safely say good bye.

WILDLIFE RESCUE 24/7
Know the number, make the call!!!

A reminder during the busy season… Please save this number to your phone now
WILDLIFE VICTORIA
(03) 8400 7300.

One of the most common questions we see relating to wildlife is 'who to call?!
This number is monitored 24/7, 365 days a year and they will give the most accurate information to help wildlife.
They will provide guidance over the phone, and send an alert to multiple volunteers simultaneously if it is determined that a rescuer is required.
It is a very busy time at the moment, so please be patient with both Wildlife Victoria and volunteer rescuers.

PLEASE HELP !!!
We are behind before we even begin, cause once again not a single phone call

This girl has been hit by vehicle on Princes Hwy Rosedale
She has an active teat for an At Foot/Pouch Young Joey
Unfortunately so far we have not been able to find this Joey
If you have a neighbouring property in the area of Wrights Lane please keep a watchful eye out
We have moved mumma Roos body further into trees on road side to hopefully bring Joey back to mumma
This little Joey may not survive too long with out mum 🙏

You hear the words that every Wildlife Rescuer hates “fence hanger”
For me, so many thoughts go through my mind but the main one is…will it be okay 🙏

Found by Bev whilst out walking along a slight embankment in Newborough. Blink and you would have missed this little Joey. I still can’t believe he was spotted.
He would have been following his mumma across the road and through to the next paddock, sadly he didn’t make it.
The ring lock caught savagely around his leg as he tried to jump over the fence. His little foot completely ringbarked and he had also severed some of the tendon.
His injuries were horrific 😥
I cannot even imagine the pain he was going through.
Rest peacefully beautiful little boy😥🦘🙏

This gorgeous little girl is one very lucky little Joey
She was found this afternoon underneath a fence at a worksite all alone with no mumma.
A lovely member of public contacted Wildlife Victoria and kept her warm, safe and quiet till we could arrive.
How she survived for as long as she did in this severe heat has suprised us all, she is most definately one very lucky little girl.
She has now gone into care where she can nurture and grow with little buddies her own size, fingers crossed she makes a full recovery.

Support rescue and rehabilitation efforts in your community.
Forgive us when we don't respond immediately. Understand when we are short or curt. Remember that behind our smiles and triumphs are many stories of heartbreaking failures as well. Be kind to us, but most of all, be kind to animals so they never need to come to us.🦘💜🙏

Today is World Kangaroo Day!
💜🦘💜🦘💜🦘💜🦘💜🦘💜🦘

As we celebrate World Kangaroo Day, let us reflect on the importance of preserving Australia's iconic marsupials and reaffirm our commitment to protecting and coexisting with these magnificent creatures. Together, we can make a difference in safeguarding kangaroos and their habitats for the benefit of all.

At the end of the day, we want to see a future where kangaroos thrive…surely that’s possible?
