At Petbarn, we believe in positive, force-free training methods. Our modern, science-based training is proven to teach humans how to communicate with their dogs effectively to learn lifelong skills. We aim to empower our clients with the knowledge to be effective in training their own dogs in both basic skills and more complex behaviours. Reinforcement is the best way to encourage a desired new behaviour to stick
By rewarding the behaviours you want to see often, it establishes a clear relationship to your dog about their actions and the resulting reward. 💛
Socialising your puppy can feel like an overwhelming task; there are so many sights, smells and sounds to get them used to! Making a list can help you keep track of your pup’s responses to new stimuli.
Here are some outdoor sights and sounds we recommend to introduce to your puppy:
⭐ Lawns mowers
⭐ People in high vis uniforms
⭐ Cars, bicycles, trucks & motorcycles
⭐ Weather; rain, wind & thunder
⭐ Fireworks
⭐ Different surfaces: grass, gravel, sand, concrete, stairs, water etc.
⭐ Other animals; birds, cats & other dogs
⭐ Car rides

For your dog to have the best chance of success, make sure the whole family is consistent. Dogs will find it easier to meet your expectations if the expectations don't change 💛
Are you struggling to keep your dog occupied while in lockdown? 💛
To keep your furry best friend from getting bored, keep their mind working with interactive food games & puzzles 🧩🐶
Enrichment is a great way to keep your dog stimulated and encourage healthy chewing and foraging instincts. You can improvise at home and use toilet rolls and fill them with dry treats or even sprinkle food in trays to keep their minds active!
