My brother and I grew up in a pet resort – it was SO much fun! Our parents always had an intense love and interest in companion animals, and they started out before we were even born in the dog show rings, winning many ribbons over the years. As people got to know our parents in the industry, they could see the pride and care that they put into their own pets, and soon they were asking our parents to offer a pet boarding service. Suddenly, their hobby became a business and a way of life, and the Samford Pet Resort was begun.
From a very young age, we remember being surrounded by dogs and cats (not to mention horses, goats, and guinea pigs!). We loved helping mum and dad out, and it became a way of life for us. Even on Christmas Day, we remember always knowing that the pets came first! We had to be patient, and understood that the pets needed to be taken care of first – it wasn’t just about waking up and opening presents!
As their reputation grew, so did the business, and they eventually founded the APBG (Association of Pet Boarding and Grooming) to connect with other similar families and businesses, with a view of bettering the industry and forming a common ground for pet care standards. Many years later, our family decided to purchase Northshore Pet Resort with the view of creating a sister Resort to the original family business, Samford Pet Resort.
