This bandicoot was found on a quiet Russell Island road that has only half a dozen cars travel it each day.

Please, if you hit an animal, check to see if it is still alive, if it has a baby, or if it is dead. If it is dead, remove it from the road.

The best thing to do with a deceased animal is to place it in the bush as a food source for other native creatures. This also gives its family the chance to discover it is now deceased.

It takes just minutes to do the right thing after an accident.

🎣 What happens when you lose the lure? Nothing good.
This seagull thought they were picking up a quick snack near it’s home at Baxters Jetty in Shorncliffe, instead, the shiny find would spell disaster. Luckily, the sea bird was spotted and our friends at Pelican and Seabird Rescue Inc. called in the RSPCA Animal Ambulance for the rescue.

RSPCA Rescue Officer Nicole found the bird with the lure wrapped around its beak, piercing through both the top and the bottom of its mouth. Actively restricting the bird's ability to eat, drink and defend itself. Without timely intervention, this small piece of fishing waste would cause certain death for the seagull.

Now under care at the RSPCA Wildlife Hospital we’re hopeful it won’t be long before the seagull can be returned home to Shorncliffe for release.

Hook, line and sinker, no matter how small the waste, its effects are devastating to our wildlife. If you see an animal in distress call the RSPCA 24/7 emergency line 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625).

Face masks 😷 pose new threat to wildlife. Campaigners are urging people to use more washable masks and bin disposables properly after cutting βœ‚οΈ off their straps.

The biggest impact may be in the water, with green groups alarmed at the flood of used masks, latex gloves and other protective gear finding their way into already contaminated seas and rivers.

More than 1.5 billion masks made their way into the world's oceans last year, accounting for around 6,200 extra tonnes of marine plastic pollution.

On Saturday our Cooloola Coast members Ros and Pete had a call from the hotline that a gentleman had four dead magpies in his backyard at Cooloola Cove. They immediately attended only to find the magpies were still alive but obviously poisoned by an unknown source and unable to stand at all. After several phone calls, they decided to take them direct to Paula who administered a charcoal mixture and placed them all in the humidicrib.
The happy ending resulted in Ros and Pete being able to collect them the next day and release them to a reserve close to the gentleman's house. It was such a beautiful sight to see all four fly off together.
It will still be a worry while people continue to use poisons for lawn grubs, ants and mice without consideration to our precious wildlife.
Thanks to Paula's knowledge and dedication these 4 live to fly another day.
Ros and Pete thought there was no hope but their eyes were so bright they thought maybe, just maybe.

When you find a Tawny Frogmouth on the ground, often it is because the parents are training their young and watching from the trees. You can keep an eye on it but leave it be (if it looks healthy) as once night falls it will most likely be joined and taken away by it's parents.
