With dental month just around the corner, let’s start delving into the world of small animal dental disease and care!
First up - why do we recommend performing dental X-ray’s of your pet’s teeth?
The patient whose X-ray is below had pretty nice teeth on the conscious exam but a fair amount of smelly, discoloured plaque. After cleaning, we examined and probed the oral structures which revealed a very deep periodontal pocket around this particular tooth. But it wasn’t until X-rays were performed did we reveal the extent of the problem! Severe bone loss around both roots of this lower premolar. As well as as resorption of some of the tooth root!
This would have been very painful for this dog.
By performing dental X-rays on our patients every two years during their dental scale and polish, we can pick up on painful problems sooner and try to keep those pearly whites as healthy as possible!

🔬 What’s that critter under the microscope? 🔬
This is a biting louse found in the hair around the horns of a young goat. Low numbers of lice on an animal may not be of much concern, but if numbers are high enough to cause irritation to the animal treatment is warranted.
Do not fear, these lice are species specific. This means, you can’t catch lice from your goat and your goat can’t get lice from you!
Hope this has got you scratching your head 🤣
Looking forward to sharing more neat things we see under the microscope!

Today we celebrated something a bit special…….we are officially one year old!! 🥳 🍾 One year ago we welcomed our very first patient through the doors of our own clinic. Since that day we have been blessed with meeting and caring for so many fantastic people and their pets. We are lucky to work in this beautiful hospital with our wonderful, caring and skilled team.

🐶 How many pups can you see? 🐶
If we know how many pups to expect at delivery, a breeder is better informed to know if and when intervention may be needed. Single pups are at high risk of needing a caesarian.
We recommend performing an X-ray of the expectant mum in the last week of pregnancy to count the number of babies. This can be can be done quickly, safely and with minimal stress to mum in our hospital.
If you have any questions - give us a call ☎️

Wellness Wednesday - chicken edition! 🐓
Featuring Storm and Midnight!
Poor Storm developed a very long beak compared to her sister Midnight. Her owner had been making sure she was still able to peck her food, so Storm wasn’t loosing any weight but it was becoming increasingly trickier to eat. After the once over with Dr Erin, Storm got a clean bill of health and her overgrown beak was trimmed quickly and easily. Storm then tested out her new beak on some meal worms for a well-deserved reward.
Aren’t they just the cutest!! 🐓 🐓
We happily see feathered friends as well as the four legged variety! 🐈‍⬛ 🐶 🐓 🦅

🔬 Under the Microscope 🔬
A common reason we see our patients is for sore or smelly ears. To get further information on the cause of an ear infection we will collect some of the ear discharge (yes….gross!) and put it under the microscope. Most often we see yeast or bacteria. Sometimes we see something a bit cooler! Below is a video of an ear mite found on an ear smear from a young kitten.
How cool is that!
Ear mites are easily treatable with ear drops and topical spot-on parasite products.

Wellness Wednesday!
We can run blood, urine, and faecal tests in the clinic and have accurate, reference lab quality results, within 20 minutes. More specialised tests can also be sent to veterinary specific laboratories.
Blood tests are recommended for monitoring many long term medications and for assessing sick patients. But did you know healthy pets can benefit from routine blood testing as well?
Pictured is gorgeous Charlee who suffers from chronic kidney disease and came in today for updated blood sampling for us to evaluate how she is going ❤️

🌟We did it!🌟
Thank you so much to our beautiful clients and community for the nomination, votes, positivity and support as we took this big scary leap of faith and followed our dream of owning our own clinic ! Our success is most definitely a group effort and we are so grateful to our whole team for their excellent patient and customer care, and for helping to build such a wonderful culture which makes working together a joy. Finally thank you Nikki Boyd MP for hosting the awards and recognising the importance of small business in our community.
Here’s to another year of serving our beautiful patients and the wonderful people who trust us with their care ❤️🐾

Wellness Wednesday!🐶
Do you know why we recommend 3 sets of puppy vaccinations?
It’s all to do with maternal antibodies. Maternal antibodies essentially negate the immunity from vaccination. These maternal antibodies start to wane around 10 weeks of age though there can be variations in the level of maternal antibodies and how long they last. When maternal antibodies are between 20-80, pups will not respond to a vaccine and are still susceptible to disease. This is why the 14-16 week vaccination is so important. Maternal antibodies at this age have decreased to the point that the vaccine can overwhelm them and sustain immunity for the first year of life.
That third puppy vaccination isn’t just another excuse to cuddle puppies, it’s literally science! The cuddles are just a bonus! ❤️🐾
