Introducing sweet 'Bubba' - a highly sensitive, formerly terrified (traumatised) rescue mini who lacked all trust & would panic when touched.
In pitiful condition, skin & bone, her life transformed when she was rescued from the sales by an angel - a selfless local horsewoman with a π of gold.
Needing a forever home, she came to us for training. Due to her intense fear & mistrust of humans, she wouldn't be caught so had to be cornered with a herd.
As happens, she soon won our πs too, so is now happily ever after as herd boss here at Mini-All-Stars!
It's taken some time - i.e. the time it takes... but she's now desensitised & trusting enough to accept even the clippers at LIBERTY. (Thanx π
for the beaut pressy!)
Testament for such a highly sensitive π¦ mini, yet no sedation needed... but instead patient NEGOTIATION is the key.π
After just a couple of desens sessions several months ago using 'training' clippers (old battery shaver), this was my FIRST ever attempt to clip her! And she handled it extremely well, so it didn't take long at all. π€©
Was just a welfare clip BTW on account of the heat wave this week, definitely not a show clip - so again, no pressure. π
Critical her first experience was pleasant & done at HER pace - hence the lucerne ration & 'time out' pauses when she called it. π
Clipping is actually good fun & quite mindful. Done the RIGHT way, it builds mutial trust, confidence & communication skills. Try 'LIBERTY CLIPPING' in 2024! π€©
Clever boy Benny nailed it first go on his new (slightly longer) see-saw! Perfect demo of where the horse's centre of balance actually is when standing. Also how they can shift their balance almost invisibility.
Extra 'focus' required at liberty when surrounded by lucious grass outside usual paddock! A short warm-up 'conversation' helped him stay on task ... at least for a few seconds. π
Clever boy 'Benny' loves liberty!
Benny's latest trick at liberty - walk the plank & 'rock the boat' - he's a natural!
