What is Bowen Therapy?

Bowen therapy is a non invasive, gentle form of body work that is safe to perform on young to elderly horses. The treatment stimulates the lymphatic system which removes toxic material from the body and through the small moves applied using fingers it helps release hard muscle and even heals scarred tissues. The treatment creates deep, long lasting healing and pain relief and also is able to treat varying injuries whether they are acute or chronic.

Bowen is very relaxing and helps horses that have emotional issues or anxiety as it stimulates the whole central nervous system. Sadie had her pre race bowen session yesterday in anticipation for her run at ascot on Sunday 🏇. I always enjoy my sessions with sadie as she is such a character to be around 😂.

!!! Warning mundijong area !!!

Last night someone had cut 2 of the fences down in my boys paddock in order to steal motorbikes from the neighbouring property. Luckily he did not attempt to get out his paddock which is located near a main road. However this just shows how little care others have for ones pets!. I am furious however very appreciative that I still have my gentle giant safe ❤. So beware and keep your eyes open!!

What is happening in this photo you may ask?🤷‍♀️

Well this is the deep cranial pectoral muscle also know as the subclavius being rolled out from behind the scapula and stretched.

But why is this important when addressing shoulder issues in horses?

The deep cranial pectoral or subclavius muscle function is to retract the forelegs, support the trunk when the hoof is placed on the ground and stabilise the shoulder joint. Therefore if this muscle becomes shortened the forward movement (stretching out) of the forelimb is there for restricted causing lose of scapula movement and can give the shoulder a more upright appearance.

This handsome boy enjoyed his first ever Bowen session today and handled it like a pro!🐎

Trev is a bit of a sensitive soul who is very suspicious of everything and was showing signs of discomfort around his poll area.

Once he realised that I was only trying to help him it was so nice to see him drop his guard and lower his head in order for me to work on releasing the tension in the muscles causing him so much discomfort.❤

I quite regularly get asked by clients about what stretches are beneficial in helping the back.
