Chris and Robyn Brown have owned, ridden and bred horses for nearly 40 years. Chris began his equine and farm career as a young jackeroo in the 1970s, firstly at Esperance and then in the Kimberleys at Halls Creek. He learnt many skills such as breaking in, mustering, transporting, farrier work, windmill and fence repairs and working with very unruly horses. Robyn has worked with show and dressag

e horses, preparing and competing to advanced levels. Chris and Robyn still both compete regularly in dressage, basing their training work on the Portugese master, Nuno Oliviera, who they were fortunate to work with in Portugal in 1987 and also attended most of his clinics in Western Australia. We live on a 5 acre property, "Van Baalen", at Serpentine, Western Australia with our warmblood horses, whippets, cats and chooks, running a large organic vegetable garden.

Today was the first day for a saddle on Little Blackie and it turned out to be a bit of a non event. He now has a job as a contract lawnmower.

Taking dad and daughter relationships to great heights. Today Tenneike had her first lesson in shoeing and she did a great job with Poppy's front shoes.

Such a lovely day for us at Van Baelen. Our Cohallos Benicio mare came home for 2 weeks holiday from Kalgoorlie, where Tenneike now lives. Reuniting with her mum Cherry and other friends.

What a beautiful setting to work today at Shanley Green Agistment . I showed 10 local horse owners/ farmers how to make a quick acting fermented compost from their horse manure as part of the Serpentine Jarrahdale Food & Farm Alliance Inc Improving Equine Soils project . Great to see a representative from the SJ Shire attend too.

Today our 3 year old had his first trimming lesson with Chris using the hoof stand. Such a good boy.

Repairman Chris putting new life into an old metal wheelbarrow we bought from the Hopkinson Rd tipshop 5 years ago. Battered and old but very usable again with a piece of galvanised pipe for a new axle sleeve.

Finally some winter sunshine and a chance to upgrade our front fence and entrance so our car and horsefloat are not on the road when we park to close our front gate.Thanks Chris and VB Equestrian

A big lesson today for Little Blackie (Fursten Look)turned out to be a non event with no drama going on or coming out of the float. Always a joy to teach unspoilt youngsters.

The arena rake is finished. Tried it on the arena and has done a great job grading the surface and clearing the weeds.
Hopefully no more crops on our arena for the horses to concentrate on, rather than us!

Makeover complete. Reticulation installed and it works! Should look gorgeous in 12 months with red and white sasanqua camelias at rear, pittosporum Hole in One in middle row, Big Red geraniums and red and white petunias in front front with red and white dipladenia creepers on side fence. Rosemary and Thyme are going home for a beer.
