We opened in 1985 in a shop front on the highway ( where the saddlery shop is now), and moved into our present location in the early 1990s. Most of our staff you will all know as they have come and gone ( to have their families) and then come back again. We love the Yarra Valley and enjoy taking ca

We hope everyone is keeping safe during these winds!
We currently have power and phones going at both clinics. Seville is running on a generator, but going fine! 💪
If we run into trouble with the phones please be patient, try extension 2 on the phones to get to Yarra Junction (who will happily assist with any Seville queries).
Most importantly, we are open as usual and please make sure you and your animals are safe!

Clear your paddocks of debris, ensure your fences are intact and keep young animals nice and protected from the elements. 💨.

MUD FEVER
With the wet weather and muddy paddocks, we are seeing lots of horses with distal limb dermatitis, or mud fever.
This is a bacterial infection of the lower limbs, with thick crusted areas often accompanied by oozing serum or pus.
Providing several hours of dry footing a day, in conjunction with cleaning and topical anti-bacterial treatments, will usually allow mud fever to resolve without any complications.

It is important to note that there are a few other skin conditions that have a similar presentation to mud fever, including fungal dermatitis, photosensitivity, vasculitis, and immune mediated dermatitis. While these conditions all look similar, their treatment is very different.
Sometimes your vet may need to take skin scraping samples or biopsies to accurately diagnose the condition.

If the condition is not treated appropriately, the dermatitis may travel deeper and further up the leg leading to cellulitis, lameness, or persistent skin issues. This is why early vet examination is important for ‘mud fever’ that is not clearing up quickly with traditional at-home treatments.

Dr Adele and Dr Andrea gave a talk on Horse Health, with the focus on what is normal and when to call the vet. It was great to meet all the attendees and answer any questions they may have.

Before July ended the team got a chance to have some team building fun! Thanks to the amazing staff who come to work everyday so we can ensure your animals get superb care whenever they need it!

Today Dr Andrea helped Amanda the valais blacknose sheep deliver a set of healthy twin lambs.
The first twin was quite large and had trouble coming out by herself, but with some help the twins were soon out and Amanda is already proving to be an excellent mum!

Come with us and see what happens when a dog needs a caesarian! ❤️🐶 Beautiful Beryl was having some problems trying to give birth to her puppies. She came to our Yarra Junction clinic where Dr Andrea checken the puppies with an ultrasound, and we ran some bloods to check Beryl's progesterone levels. Based on findings it was decided to do a c-section. Beryl was admitted and quickly prepared for surgery.🩻 She was given a medication that makes her sleepy, and then connected to anaesthetic. Dr Andrea got the puppies out faster than lightning, and the nurses made sure they were all looked after! Once Dr Andrea and nurse Claudia were finished with the surgery, the mother of 7 healthy puppies were cared for in recovery, and when awake enough she got to meet her babies. The puppies have grown amazingly, and just last week passed their first health check and vaccinations with Dr Matt! Well it was a hectic night last night and this morning with the clean up 🧹 after the flash flood. But very proud of our staff pulling together to have the clinic fully functional again this morning! And to all those amazing clients who reached out to help, a sincerest thank you 🙏!

‼️⚠️ Warning graphic video ahead of a surgical procedure ⚠️‼️ Dr Courtney had a unique case recently - this patient presented to the clinic with a firm and painful skin swelling on the side of her body. We decided to perform an exploratory surgery and found a large splintered stick had penetrated her side! 🪵 Thankfully it missed her vital organs ❤️and after removal and a good flush, she is healing well! What’s the worst mischief your dog has gotten up to at home? 🙈🙉🙊
