🐶 COME SPEND A DAY WITH US AS A RESCUE PUPPY AT TGE VETS 🐶
Did you know that most of us at SVC and YVVS chose to adopt our pets? And that we work very closely with numerous rescue groups?
🐶🐶 Meet Howdy and Boots! Two gorgeous puppies that came in for de-sexings, vaccinations and microchips.
They start their day with a hospital admission that mainly consists of cuddles!
We prepare their medications, give them some snoozy pre-medication prior to moving them into theatre. The nurses prep the area that we are doing surgery on, and then we are underway!
A castration in a young, male puppy takes the vets approximately 10-20 minutes! Snip snip! ✂️
In Victoria all dogs and cats that are de-sexed get a tattoo in their left ear while under anaesthetic. We also take advantage of the anaesthesia and microchip them while they’re sleeping to avoid them feeling the needle go in.
Howdy and Boots had a sleepy afternoon while recovering from surgery, received their vaccinations and a cone of shame!
After a few hours with us they got to go home to their foster carer in wait for their new homes!

You might have already had the honour of meeting them as they have both spent a fair bit of time with us during placement before accepting our employment offer! Now vets “for real” they’ll be seeing patients both in clinics and out on properties as well as doing surgeries.
Both Dr Dom and Dr Mike are graduates from Melbourne University, Yarra Valley locals and keen to be part of our busy clinics. We are super excited to have them, and they both are fitting in to the team just perfectly!

This week will deliver some high temperatures and it’s important to think about our beautiful animals 🐶 🐱
A good trick for dogs and cats is to use their regular kibble and freeze them in water. They will love playing, licking and eating the ice with their food in it! It’s a simple way to deliver their food but to ensure they both get cool and hydrated! 🚿 🥣
This can also be done for our horses and livestock- freeze molasses or pellets and enrich them on a hot day! 🧊 🐴 🐑 ☀️ our friends at @thenrgteam have great suggestions for horses!

Rabbits and Guinea pigs love pieces of frozen fruit and veggies on a scorching day! 🍓 🥕 🍏
With Christmas celebrations in full swing, we want to remind you all about some foods and snacks that us humans might enjoy, but that is toxic to many of our pets!

🍗Fatty foods such as hams crackle, roast or cheeses. This can lead to acute stomach upsets and pancreatitis, even if not toxic in itself.

☀️ The warmer weather is here, and with that we are seeing more cases of hyperthermia, or heat stress, in our pets.
The most common reason is that a pet that has been left inside a car. Please remember that even on a mild day, the temperature in the car gets hot- fast! 🌡
In only a matter of minutes your pet could be affected by heat stress which can be fatal.

Join us for a day at our Yarra Junction Clinic!
We get there at 07.45am and the nurses open up the clinic. We admit any patients that are staying with us for the day.
The phones are busy from the very beginning and continue all day! Our friendly staff are always ready to answer any questions or book your pet in for an appointment.
Our vets consults most of the day, and either a surgery vet is on doing surgery, or we pause consults in the middle of the day for surgeries.
Today we ran bloods on some of our surgery patients to assess their internal health prior to having an anaesthetic. This is always a good idea!
We did a castration on a dachshound and a dental on a chihuahua.
We also had beautiful Thomas the cat in with us to monitor his diabetes.
Other patients included the guinea pig with an abscess, a couple of itchy dogs, some older patients needing their 6 monthly health check as well as cute puppies for vaccinations.
The clinic is cleaned thoroughly before closing, ready to do it all again tomorrow!
