⏰ Its time to talk about: The Importance of E-Collars ⏰

Is your pet undergoing surgery in the near future?

We understand these 'lamp shades', 'cones of shame' or e-collars are not the most glamorous, pleasant or simple items for your pet to wear.
They provide a physical barrier to inhibit your pet from accessing their surgical site, bandage, wound, rash and countless other issues.
Benefits include:
- A faster recovery rate.
- Decreased risk of infection.
- Decreasing the chance of their sutures being pulled and the surgical site opening.
- Fewer post operative complications.

We do have alternatives available so please ask the lovely reception staff at your selected clinic.

✨❕ Fun Fact Friday ❕✨

We LOVE sheep here at Victorian Central Veterinary Group and we especially love it when they come into the clinic to visit! This is Spotto, who visited Seymour Central Vets last week!

Did you know? Sheep are incredibly smart and have wonderful memories.
Sheep are intelligent animals and can remember up to 50 different individuals (humans and sheep). They are also able to recognize faces, and mothers are able to identify their lamb's bleat.
How amazing!! So your pet sheep really does recognise you not just the food you are providing for them! 😂

📢 Eskimo Joe has an announcement! 📢

Today is NATIONAL CHECK THE CHIP DAY!

Today was established To remind pet owners to have their pets microchipped and to keep the registration information up-to-date!

Microchips greatly increase the chances that pets will be reunited with their families if they are lost or stolen…but a microchip only works if its registration information is accurate.

Don't hesitate, head into Seymour, Nagambie or Euroa Central Vets today and get your precious pets microchipped checked or book in with one of our registered Veterinary Nurses to get your fur baby microchipped!

🐾 Dog Vaccination: What their vaccinations actually prevent! 🐾

Little Charlie visited Seymour Central Vets for his puppy vaccination. Veterinary Nurse Nicole fell in love with this little sweetie!

Diseases that can be prevented through dog vaccination include:
- Canine Parvovirus: A severe and frequently fatal cause of gastroenteritis. Disease is more common and severe in young puppies, but unvaccinated dogs of all ages can be infected.
- Canine Distemper Virus: A highly contagious and potentially fatal viral disease. Infected dogs may develop a range of signs including fever, coughing, sneezing, nasal discharge, vomiting, diarrhoea and seizures.
- Infectious Canine Hepatitis: An often fatal viral disease. Signs may include fever, depression, loss of appetite, vomiting and diarrhoea. In severe cases death can occur rapidly within 24 to 48 hours.
- Leptospirosis: A bacterial disease which can affect many different species, including dogs and humans. Infected dogs may develop problems such as liver disease, kidney disease and bleeding disorders.
- Canine Coronavirus: A highly contagious virus which may result in lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhoea and dehydration. In general, disease in young dogs is more severe than in adults
- Canine Cough: A common infectious disease which can be easily spread wherever dogs congregate. Signs include a dry hacking cough which may persist for several weeks. Organisms which can cause canine cough include Bordetella bronchiseptica and canine parainfluenza virus.

If you would like more information please don't hesitate to drop into one of our clinics and our friendly staff can answer your questions!

Planning on having a new pup join your family?

Socialising is crucial for their development, well-being and maximising positive interaction. We recommend the following to help create a relaxed and adaptable canine companion.

1. **Early Exposure (especially prior to 20 weeks of age)**: Introduce your puppy to different people, animals, environments, and situations early on (after they've had their initial vaccinations). This helps them become familiar and comfortable with a variety of stimuli.

2. **Positive Reinforcement**: Use treats, praise, and toys to reward your puppy when they interact positively with new people and experiences. This creates positive associations and encourages them to be confident in new situations.

3. **Gradual Exposure**: Start with less intimidating environments and gradually increase the level of challenge as your puppy becomes more comfortable. This prevents overwhelming them and promotes successful socialisation.

4. **Structured Socialisation Classes**: Enroll your puppy in puppy socialisation classes or playgroups where they can interact with other puppies in a safe and supervised environment. This helps them learn appropriate social behaviors.

5. **Handling Exercises**: Get your puppy used to being handled gently all over their body, including their paws, ears, and mouth. This prepares them for grooming and veterinary visits and teaches them to be comfortable with human touch.

6. **Positive Vet Visits**: Take your puppy to the veterinarian for regular check-ups and vaccinations. Pair these visits with treats and praise to make them a positive experience.

7. **Desensitization to Sounds**: Expose your puppy to common household noises (e.g., vacuum cleaner, doorbell) gradually and at a low volume. Increase the volume over time as they become more accustomed to the sounds.

8. **Supervised Playtime**: Allow your puppy to interact with other well-socialised dogs under supervision. This helps them learn appropriate play behaviors and canine communication cues.

9. **Consistency**: Be consistent in your socialisation efforts. Regular exposure to new people, animals, and environments throughout puppyhood is key to developing a well-rounded and confident adult dog.

10. **Patience and Understanding**: Each puppy develops at their own pace. Be patient and understanding, and avoid forcing interactions if your puppy seems scared or anxious. Respect their comfort levels and provide reassurance.

By implementing these strategies consistently and positively, you'll help your puppy grow into a confident, well-adjusted adult dog who is comfortable and relaxed in a variety of social situations.
