“How light is light? Everyone wants a horse that is easy to handle and is light and responsive. However, it is interesting how oftentimes we fall into the trap of thinking we need knotted reins, bigger bits, and more strength to help us be more forceful! Before lightness can be achieved you must first offer it.

If a horse can feel a fly land and twitch that section of hair, then I am pretty sure they can feel you wiggling around up there or that rope wiggling around. It takes two to make a brace and if you are light and reward the slightest try, you have a much better chance of creating a light responsive, willing horse acting much more like a Partner.🤔

So the next time you are thinking you need to get bigger or push harder, consider offering lightness and waiting on the horse to respond and start right then to begin building a light and willing partner.”

Thought for the day:
Don't let anyone sell you the idea that learning this stuff is easy.
Easy is how it becomes after you have put in the effort to improve yourself.
It can take a long time to master concepts that are easy to understand and look easy when you watch it done by someone who has put in the effort.
It can take a long time to overcome self doubt, or fear, or the need to blame your horse or his past, or other tendencies that get in the way.
The light at the end of the tunnel will only appear when an effort is made to become closer to the end of the tunnel.
If it were just a matter of gaining knowledge in an academic fashion or through observation it would be easy.
Time and application to physically doing this with the benefit of the theoretical ideals is what will get you across the line.

How’s your lateral flexion? It’s really cool how lateral flexion helps the mind and connection. It can be your best friend when training, however it can also be done without feel and connection and become ‘just a movement’ and not help your horse at all.
Tune in tomorrow for the video of what lateral flexion is doing for Moët

Thought for the day:
Softness is a horse going with something not staying off it.
Accepting the feel of something and following that feel is much different to avoiding the feel of something.
One is knowing how to stay with something and stay relaxed and the other is avoiding something for fear of consequences.

Excited to have Andrew back this year! This is a fantastic clinic and books out quickly. You have to have done this clinic to be eligible for the Two Handed Cutting Clinic that we will hold later in the year.

How it came about

March 12 2017 was the day that changed my life.

My horse had a wardrobe malfunction and I broke my tibial Plateau and detached all my tendons and ligaments. This accident led me to working out what went wrong. Looking back I had a new horse and I rushed the process and took his education for granted because I had a plan to go to an endurance ride at Easter.

I remember vividly the fear of getting back on, and even just being near my horses.

This journey led me to finding may ways to learn to over come my fears, the biggest thing it has taught me however is that I want to help others with learning and enjoying their horses. I have realized that not everyone wants to compete in a sport with their horses, some people just want to spend fun times with their horses and friends.
