You might not think it from this joey's adorable little face, but koalas can make some pretty terrifying sounds. In fact, a lot of the sounds that the T-Rex in Jurassic Park makes, are actually recorded koalas! πŸ¦–

Photobiomodulation Therapy β˜„οΈ

Have you heard about laser therapy? It's a painless, non-invasive treatment that can be used to treat a variety of ailments.

In this case, Dr Kat used laser therapy to help treat a young wombat with a fractured femur. The bone was deemed to thin/fragile for a plate or pin to be used to surgically fix this fracture. In some cases this would mean potential euthanasia, but with just two weeks of laser therapy, the bone demonstrated significant healing! Two months later the bone was basically perfect and this little wombat has since gone on to be released πŸ₯°

Laser therapy can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including:

- Infections
- Sprains and strains
- IVDD in Daschunds and Frenchies
- Post-surgical healing
- Arthritis
- Wound healing
- Fracture repair
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Skin disease

If you think your pet could benefit from some laser therapy, book a consult with us today!

Our clinic dogs are getting into the Halloween spirit πŸ‘»

Some little reminders for keeping your pets safe tonight:
- costumes - make sure they are not too tight, and only leave them on when you are supervising your pets to ensure they don't get stuck or accidentally ingest part of their outfit
- lollies - keep ALL lollies and chocolates away from your pets. Any choocolate or artificially sweetened lollies could be lethal to your pet
- noise - with all the ghosts and ghouls about there is likely to be a lot of noise tonight which could scare your pets. Make sure your pets are somewhere safe where they can't get out.

If you suspect your pet has ingested part of their costume, or some lollies - please contact your local vet or emergency hospital as soon as possible.

πŸŽƒπŸ‘» Happy Halloween πŸ‘»πŸŽƒ

πŸ€ Winnie the rat came to see Dr Kat recently as her owners found a mass under her armpit. This mass was diagnosed as a mammary tumour. Winnie was scheduled for removal of the mass, which was successful, and we are hopeful that she will make a complete recovery.

Mammary tumours are common in rats and early detection and removal (as happened in Winnie's case) is associated with a better prognosis.

If you have a pet rat, even if it's a male, please feel them regularly for any masses and get any lumps you find checked by a vet as soon as possible! πŸ€

πŸ„πŸ–πŸ“ Farmyard Friday πŸ“πŸ–πŸ„

This is Napoleon from Where Pigs Fly Farm Sanctuary. Dr Robin went out to visit him as his tusks were getting pretty long. These tusks can become a safety risk as they have a sharp, serrated edge that can easily slice through human flesh, even if the pig isn't meaning to hurt anyone! As such, tusks on male domestic pigs are often trimmed in captivity.

To do this, Dr Robin sedated Napoleon and then used a special wire to saw through the tusks. You can see in the second image (feat. one of the many goats who also live at the sanctuary) just how massive the tusks really are!! πŸ—

🐊🦘🐍 Wildlife Wednesday 🐍🦘🐊

These two lovely baby bandicoots were brought in to us by a member of public. They were both found to be in good health and have been transferred to a wildlife carer to be hand raised.

Bandicoots can produce a variety of noises many of which may sound quite alarming to any nearby people:
- a high-pitched bird-like noise used to locate each other
- a "woof woof" noise when they are annoyed
- a "chuff chuff" noise combined with a loud high pitched squeak when threatened or alarmed
- a loud shriek when scared

Meet Max the Bull Terrier 🐢

He came to see Dr Kat as he was seeming to be uncomfortable when lying down and was occasionally yelping. On x-ray we could see a stone in his bladder that appeared to be covered in spikes. Dr Kat surgically removed the stone and now lovely Max is much more comfortable!

🐍🦘🐊 Wildlife Wednesday 🐊🦘🐍

This lovely wild diamond python came in to see Dr Luke after having an unfortunate altercation with a dog. This snake was very lucky and was able to be repaired and is currently being rehabilitated by wildlife carers.

We have seen a lot of wild snakes lately with all this lovely warm weather. Unfortunately that also means we have seen more injured snakes and more envenomated pets who have picked the wrong danger noodle to approach. Please keep your cats and dogs safe and stay away from all wild snakes 🐍

Meet Faker! This brave boy got into an altercation with a goanna (who escaped scot free) and had to come and see our resident plastic surgeon, Dr Robin.

Here you can see the progression of his wound; from in the car on the way to see us, straight after surgery, two weeks later and then two months later!

Pretty sure we're all of the opinion that Dr Robin could operate on our faces any day 😜😍

Meet Sparrow!

This gorgeous boy came in as a stray, heavily affected by tick paralysis. Despite being unable to stand and struggling to breathe, he purred at everyone who came near. We treated him for his tick paralysis, and now he's been desexed, microchipped and is looking for a loving home.

If you think you could give Sparrow the love he deserves, please contact us on 4372 1799 ❀️
