Does your dog chew or lick at their feet?
Are inside their pads angry and red?
Is he/she allergic to the grass?
If your dog suffers from reactions to walking around their environment, there ARE some things that can be done to help minimise the reactions and damage they do to themselves!
In salon, we can offer foot soaks with the Ozone spa, using antibacterial and antifungal cleansers and then a deep hydration. Ozone kills bugs and reduces inflammation, it also improves circulation among many other properties.
At home there is plenty you can do!
Tips for helping reduce the itch/irritation:
Depending on the conditions, you may need to do this every time the dog goes in and out, or only first thing before going out for the day and last when coming in!
If your dog has a doggy door and is in and out at their leisure, never fear...once a day helps better than nothing!
*Wipe down when coming inside.
Using either dog wipes, a damp warm face cloth or actually hosing off/soaking feet.
* After this little clean, apply "Wonder Butter". This is super hydrating and protecting, it has antibacterial, anti inflammatory properties and is completely pet safe and non toxic.
Key is to do this and distract them for 5/10minutes to allow the product to soak into the skin and work its magic without being licked off!
*Before your dog goes outside, apply a small amount for protection.
During times when the conditions are causing flare ups, if possible, limit their outside time to strictly supervised toileting breaks so you have control over where your dog can walk.
As conditions ease up, you can try spacing how often you clean and apply, eg if you were doing once a day, try every second day, then third etc.
Tips for applying Wonder Butter
Apply then distract by going for a walk, feeding them dinnner, playing with their favourite toy for a while, doing some training!
The big NO-NO: washing or soaking WITHOUT hydrating after!!! ALWAYS use a good quality hydrating product like Wonder Butter on feet or a conditioner if washing your pooch!
Veterinary help is always advised if you are worried about your dogs health!
