Pooches by Porada

Pooches by Porada Certified Pet Aesthetician. Multi-award winning pet stylist specialising in Pet Grooms. Groomer Training & Upskilling. Quality products & Service!

Fully insured for all services. Dogs should be groomed regularly to help avoid painful matting, detect skin changes and to keep them comfortable. A regularly groomed dog is familiar with the process and does not find it traumatic or stressful, whereas dogs that are shaved off once or twice a year are expecting it to be an uncomfortable and scary experience. Where possible, I strongly recommend my

clients book on a minimum 6 weekly recurring schedule to avoid disappointment trying to get your desired day/time. Recurring bookings can be made of multiple options, for example;
2 weekly - bath & dry, bath & dry, full groom.
3 weekly - tidy up, full groom
4/6 weekly - full groom

Did you know sometimes I ask people if I can borrow their dog for various purposes (only if I feel they would be suitable and happy)? Be that competitions, or in the case of Letti, some seminar demos!
This weekend DGS Imports hosted a Kenchii seminar. Jonathan David (USA) used Letti to demonstrate correct techniques for her particular coat type.
She was an absolute angel and prepped in Iv San Bernard - Australia products, which everyone was amazed just how soft she feels! And this came from groomers!!!
Made me again appreciate how much dogs at Pooches by Porada really do get the best I can possibly offer!

DGS also gave Letti her own goodie bag to take home as a big thank you! 😍
Its not for everyone to loan a dog, and us groomers that do this completely understand when people say no, and are honoured and very protective of our little furfriends if we do get to borrow them!

My lil entrepreneur! My youngest has decided she wants to do pet portraits to earn herself some pocket money. (Apparently saving for a Brussels griffon now🤦‍♀️).
She has been practising hard and can usually get some decent resemblance.😊
Shes charging a whopping fee of $1 for pencil/charcoal portraits.
If you wish to support her in becoming the artist she hopes to be, please message me a photo of the pet you would like drawn and she will give it crack! 😊
No obligation to buy if you dont like it, she will just keep for her "portfolio" if you arent happy with it.

Hello!!!
Some of you may see these lovely little ladies in the salon over the coming weeks. (Some of you already have).
Meet Mavis (7) and CeeCee (5).
They are a purebred dog known as a Griffon Bruxellois (Brussels Griffon).
Their owner and breeder has very kindly lent them to me to prepare and use in a grooming competition coming up.

They come in Ewok version and a smooth/short haired version....yes without the amazing beard!

They are super cool little characters with lots of personality.
Not well known but when you meet them...you may just want one....I think I know whats coming next to my household.....

This one's mainly for my newer clients and first time floofy puppy owners! Though if you have forgotten, it wont hurt to have a reminder...🤣

Dont get fooled into thinking it is cooling off so we can go longer between grooms! Or worse yet no more until summer 😨
In fact, the longer you want your dogs coat the more often they need to be groomed.... and groomed correctly.

Regular grooming even over cooler months is as important as ever.
*It keeps their skin healthy and clean.
*We can monitor the skin and notice any changes.
*The dog is more comfortable if they are free from tangles that pull and cause pain and irritation.

Most owners choose to keep their pooch the same length all year round! Or opt to drop the length only fractionally!

A note on DOGGY JACKETS!
You may be aware, that as cute as they are, Im not a fan of them on our floofy friends.....if you put one on your fluffy dogs, chances increase greatly that you will have a shaved dog due to matting!
If you put them on your dog, you need to be brushing and COMBING them through thoroughly every day.
During cooler months, if groomers have a pelted dog, when owners are questioned, the dog is regularly wearing coats/jumpers.
If you really want to dress them up, we can opt for some funky type styles with the very short body and bigger boofy legs, this does look super cute and their coat wont mat up if its short! 😊

And on another note...how cute is this little fluffy gal?!

Does your dog chew or lick at their feet?
Are inside their pads angry and red?
Is he/she allergic to the grass?

If your dog suffers from reactions to walking around their environment, there ARE some things that can be done to help minimise the reactions and damage they do to themselves!

In salon, we can offer foot soaks with the Ozone spa, using antibacterial and antifungal cleansers and then a deep hydration. Ozone kills bugs and reduces inflammation, it also improves circulation among many other properties.

At home there is plenty you can do!
Tips for helping reduce the itch/irritation:
Depending on the conditions, you may need to do this every time the dog goes in and out, or only first thing before going out for the day and last when coming in!
If your dog has a doggy door and is in and out at their leisure, never fear...once a day helps better than nothing!

*Wipe down when coming inside.
Using either dog wipes, a damp warm face cloth or actually hosing off/soaking feet.
* After this little clean, apply "Wonder Butter". This is super hydrating and protecting, it has antibacterial, anti inflammatory properties and is completely pet safe and non toxic.
Key is to do this and distract them for 5/10minutes to allow the product to soak into the skin and work its magic without being licked off!
*Before your dog goes outside, apply a small amount for protection.

During times when the conditions are causing flare ups, if possible, limit their outside time to strictly supervised toileting breaks so you have control over where your dog can walk.
As conditions ease up, you can try spacing how often you clean and apply, eg if you were doing once a day, try every second day, then third etc.

Tips for applying Wonder Butter
Apply then distract by going for a walk, feeding them dinnner, playing with their favourite toy for a while, doing some training!

The big NO-NO: washing or soaking WITHOUT hydrating after!!! ALWAYS use a good quality hydrating product like Wonder Butter on feet or a conditioner if washing your pooch!

Veterinary help is always advised if you are worried about your dogs health!

If you wish to purchase Wonder Butter or have any questions regarding doggy skin issues, please get in touch.

The reason Pooches by Porada exists!
Not enough words to describe what this girl means to me and what she has done for me. I would not be where I am today if it wasnt for Tay.

You were one of a kind Taylor, I was blessed a thousand times over to have had you enter my life.

Hey everyone!

It turns out I am disappointing a few people!
Most of you are aware I am NOT taking new clients in, I can barely breath for lack of room on my books, which I am super grateful for your support.

In the last few days, if you have received notice of me having to cut back my clients and offering you options of other groomers whom I have asked to take on people who may be interested.....
PLEASE understand this has been difficult to decide and is NOT personal.

I am sure most of you take physical health and mental health of yourself and loved ones very seriously. Sometimes life throws curveballs and we have to do what we can to make things work and survive!

If the only way I can manage to continue running my own business is to cut back, as opposed to working for someone else that can actually give me sick leave or carers leave or paid holidays and actually get paid super etc....then I have to make that call.

I do not wish to justify these decisions and explain my deeper personal life and family concerns with everyone!

Thanks heaps for understanding and I apologise in advance if I have to send more messages out in the future.

Oh what fun!!!!!!

Louise ( Boutique Dog Spa By Lou ) and myself spent the day learning from Sue at the Asian Fusion Dog Grooming Academy .

I love getting the chance to learn and upskill and improve, so thought it would be fun to get Lou into training days while shes still so new!
This was so much fun! Highly recommend to any groomer to find people to upskill with! We should never stop trying to learn new and better skills!
