Spring is certainly here with many birds coming into care or needing assistance already.
Remember folks, look for nearby nests if birds found on the ground, if necessary pick up carefully and place in quiet space until you can call us and get advice.
Under no circumstances try and force water into birds beak.
Call us on 0439687272 for assistance so we can achieve the best outcomes together!

Abundance of wildlife around at the moment both on land, sea and sky.

One of our long term offspring that have resided in the Narragon Beach area for many many years.

It is a perfect environment for this species with the tall trees with ocean views, what else could they ask for!

This little guy misguided his landing recently, landing in a swimming pool in Euramo.

Luckily no major harm done and with a few days of R&R and some good tucker, à quick return to the family.

This is why it is important that if people rescue wildlife and drop off at vets, it is important to let them know where it was from.

They were all happy to be reunited.

"Warning very disturbing images of deceased wildlife, do not read post and comment concerns of images afterwards "

Received calls this morning regarding eight adult wallabies and subsequent two pinkies deceased in a suburban street in Mission Beach.

Gun shot wounds were the cause of death, and it is not known the location or locations that this occurred. It would appear that possibly they were dumped at this site for an unknown reason.

myPolice Cassowary Coast and Department of Environment and Science are involved with the investigations, and we urge anyone with information regarding this matter to contact us and the Police if it may help find those responsible.

Yes there are current permits in place on the Cassowary Coast allowing culling to occur, but this is certainly not acceptable or the behaviour of those involved with those authorised activities.

Thanks to the crew Cassowary Coast Regional Council for their prompt response in removal of the deceased wildlife, residents do not need to be seeing this in their street.

Not a good day!

Goodnight!
Most of us heading off to bed but for some the night is just beginning.
This Stripey came in rather flat a few days ago with little movement on the left side.
After care and treatment we are progressing slowly.

No problems with the appetite as you can see which is always a positive sign.

This little orphaned Pademelon came into care just over a week ago.

Had been without mum for a while and it's condition was poor, dehydrated and weak.

Doing really well now and should complete it's raising with us and eventually return to a suitable environment with others.
Thanks Shan Nolan for your continued support for our wildlife, been dealing with you for many years now.

Unfortunately another incident late this afternoon on Tully Mission Beach Rd.

Dad of the 2 chicks that frequent the Wongaling area east and west of the road, ran out in front of an oncoming vehicle.

The injuries were quite severe, and Will and Geoff Queensland Environment in the area on other matters were quick to respond to our call.

Thanks to Dr.
Graham Tropical Vets who after assessment of the injuries organised the bird to be put to rest peacefully and humanely.

Officers from myPolice Cassowary Coast also attended and directed peak hour traffic, which made the entire situation safe for all concerned.

Many of our locals know these birds.
A decision was made that the chicks should have learnt enough from dad to carry on with their development.

This may change depending on their behaviour in the coming days .

Please give them space, do not feel sorry for them, and try to intervene. No handouts, just let their natural instincts take over and give them a chance to flourish.

With traffic flow increasing due to tourist season and Mill operations etc, please be aware of our wildlife.

If you have any major concerns about their behaviour, let the team at DES 1300 130 372
Know.

Well after just over a week of treatment and care, with guidence from our forever mentor Deborah Carter Fight 4 Flight N.Q. Birds of Prey
we have a successful outcome.
A lot of work goes into rehabbing these birds and it is vital to get them back within a ten day time frame.

This adult female returns with time to spare, and hopefully lives a full life and has plenty of eyas.
