One of the many lost souls we are encountering, due to the wild weather also occurring out to sea.

Exhausted and way off course, this little one was found a couple of days ago way up in the hills at Elarish.

Fish anyone!

Wildcare, flat out!

We have had several Sooty Terns brought to us and rescued.
Due to the heavier rain out to sea they have headed to land in desperation.
The ten we have at the minute are being tube assist fed and doing well considering.
There would be many more scattered along our coast so if the rain eases at all this afternoon and anyone walking the beach, please lookout for them and contact us if you find any.
Our local reef colony will be severely depleted from this event.

Beach Lyfe Co.
Now is a great time to donate that item of clothing you never wear, doesn't fit anymore but someone else would live to have.
The reef rack is a great concept and we are most grateful to be a part of and support.

Just a reminder to those that have recently moved to Far North Queensland and the wet tropics, we are living in one of the oldest rainforests in the world.

There is an abundance of all types of wildlife that inhabit this region that you need to respect, be aware of the dangers, and care for your pets and children.

With the oncoming wet season around the corner, (no monsoon activity as yet),
Our waterways are a no go for most activities.

Our ecosystem is there for a reason and nature has its own way of letting us know where we can and should be at this time of year!

Please respect our wildlife!

Wildlife party at home tonight.
A few latecomers to 2024 and very hungry and demanding as you can hear.
All quiet for now.
Stay well and safe everyone and may 2025 be your year!

Just a sample of some of our critters in care at the moment, another busy day today with two new joeys settling in.
Huey, Dewey, and Louie thriving ready for the big aviary shortly.
We are available right through Christmas for any wildlife incidents and from what we can see many people are away and visitors to the area down.
Not good for business but our wildlife are happy.
Wishing everyone all the best in what has been another challenging year for many.

A break in the weather a couple of days ago, lucky to see these two cruising around.

Should be some nice breaks in the weather next couple of days so why not get outdoors and see what you can find, happy to share anything interesting just send to us.
Mission Beach markets on this Sunday, and with all the construction works going on recently, why not come down for a drive and support our local businesses.

Take a walk in the rainforest, visit the Jetty, have a coffee at one of our great cafes, have some lunch, stay for dinner lol.

We really do need some neighbouring support down here!

Came across some interesting birds on the weekend.
New to us, these twelve Pied Oystercatchers were resting on the foreshore in Cardwell.
Apparently quite common on our shores but nesting in this area might be a new thing.
Some local knowledge might bring more information regarding this.
Beautiful birds though.

Meet Hughie, Dewey and Louie.

A few days ago the first one came into care, found on the ground beneath a very large tall tree.
Green ants and lice compromised its condition and we had no alternative but to bring into care. Those that deal with us know we always prefer an animal be raised by the parents.

It became apparent that their hollow/nest, was taken over by green ants and lice.

Not sure if the parents displaced them or they just abandoned on their own accord, but the second one was on the ground that afternoon and the third the following morning.

We are slowly winning the lice elimination battle, and they are eating well.

At least they have each other!

A big thanks to Jayson for going out of his way today ensuring mums welfare was taken care of and bub was removed correctly and safely.
We bump into Jayson regularly, he's a top bloke in Mission Beach!

We hope to share some stories soon as we have been absolutely hammered over the last couple of weeks with wildlife incidents.
With the change in seasons it is our busy time, and we can only ask that motorists take extra care on our roads to avoid collisions with wildlife.
You know you can call us for assistance 24/7

There are significant fines for removing " Not for take" wildlife species from their environment.
It might seem like a good idea at the time, but most wildlife needs caring and rehabilitation beyond the knowledge of the general public.
More often than not, you are doing the animal an injustice and many issues can arise.
With freshwater turtles in Australia major damage can be done , wiping out entire populations due to bacteria being introduced from inadequate housing, and dumping back into the wild.
It is very tiring picking up the pieces from members of the public that think they can have a new pet, then realise it's not for them.
If you find injured or orphaned wildlife, please hand it over as required by law to your local wildlife group!

"Cassowary Alert!"
Many will already be aware of the Dad and four chicks near Wongaling waste station.
They are in slow motion minding their own business, in a potentially dangerous traffic area.
Please all be aware and drive slowly, it's the least we can do.
Any sightings can be reported to DES 1300 130 372.
Crossing signs will hopefully be placed soon, but if you are always aware of wildlife crossing our roads, which you should anyway, they hopefully can remain safe!
