There are significant fines for removing " Not for take" wildlife species from their environment.
It might seem like a good idea at the time, but most wildlife needs caring and rehabilitation beyond the knowledge of the general public.
More often than not, you are doing the animal an injustice and many issues can arise.
With freshwater turtles in Australia major damage can be done , wiping out entire populations due to bacteria being introduced from inadequate housing, and dumping back into the wild.
It is very tiring picking up the pieces from members of the public that think they can have a new pet, then realise it's not for them.
If you find injured or orphaned wildlife, please hand it over as required by law to your local wildlife group!

"Cassowary Alert!"
Many will already be aware of the Dad and four chicks near Wongaling waste station.
They are in slow motion minding their own business, in a potentially dangerous traffic area.
Please all be aware and drive slowly, it's the least we can do.
Any sightings can be reported to DES 1300 130 372.
Crossing signs will hopefully be placed soon, but if you are always aware of wildlife crossing our roads, which you should anyway, they hopefully can remain safe!

And yet another casualty!
This poor green sea turtle has an extremely severe case of Floaters Syndrome.
Thanks to Jodie for persisting this morning in finding someone who could assist in retrieving before tides became an issue.
Dean The Tinnie Shack was a legend for slowly bringing her in from the nearby Cove to the boat ramp.
All the others that helped, thank you heaps.
She was taken up to HQ in Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre as we cannot care for anymore at present in Mission with current funding and equipment.
Apologies for any commentary lapses as we are absolutely exhausted rescuing wildlife here on the Cassowary Coast.
So much so that we have run out of time to apply for Cassowary Coast Regional Council grants available to assist us.

Our Paddy that we have enjoyed the many many hours of rehabilitation with, was ready to be free and live life.
A great release site where Paddies reside will ensure her transition is natural.
Thanks to everyone that was involved with her rescue and release.
Our phone rang continuously today assisting with wildlife in need.

Thanks to Shauna and Clancy for reporting this juvenile Flatback turtle suffering a bad case of Floaters Syndrome.
They managed to get her into the boat just in time, there was a shark circling and they love young flatbacks.
Coming in late Friday, has passed some blockages and hopefully is not in care too long.
An extension of our recent comments in post, there seems to be a procession of ocean dwellers suffering from human waste.
Not looking prosperous for our marine life!

This Krefft's Glider that came into care recently was fortunate enough to go home last night.
Hopefully it's mate didn't give up on her and they reunited successfully.
When we rescued her she was unable to move her rear legs at all and we thought paralysis.
After giving her the opportunity to rest and recover, movement returned completely.
We were pleasantly surprised!
