The Keto diet is typified by a very low intake of carbohydrates and a large amount of fat. Here is why the keto diet is very unlikely to be beneficial.
For athletes carbohydrate is the most efficient energy source, particularly during intense or long exercise.
From a general health perspective carbohydrate rich foods have much to offer:
🧠 They are the preferred fuel of our brains
🔬Carbohydrate based foods are often packed with micronutrients. For instance, wholegrains are rich in b-vitamins, selenium and magnesium - all of which are essential for health and wellbeing.
💩 Carbohydrate rich foods are an excellent source of fibre, important for keeping us regular and supporting good gut bugs.
🤤 They are also delicious.

When athletes think about nutrition protein is often the first thing they think about, but it certainly shouldn't be the last.

Carb load for fuelling and energy

Spreading protein across the day to support maximally support muscles
Choosing foods which sit well before exercise
Balance and variety for health.

After you spent all of that money and had your boots custom made, you might feel a whole range of emotions if you are struggling to get them done up.
Culture tells us that our bodies shouldn't change, but the reality is that this just isn't how they were designed. Bodies change for all sorts of reasons across the lifespan.
We shouldn't be feeling shame about this.
And the great news is that if your boots aren't fitting you quite right, you can get them adjusted. You can either have them stretched or have extra leather added in to make them bigger.
Your boots (and clothes generally) can be adjusted to fit you. Lets normalise having top boots adjusted and stop trying to make our bodies fit into a mould.

Getting your carb intake right and your hydration optimised won't just help you ride at your best it can also help you feel better.
This doesn't mean:
❌Eating 'perfectly' (reminder there is no such thing as eating perfectly)
❌Following a meal plan (unless you have poor hunger/fullness cues and require the structure)
❌Eliminating or avoiding certain foods (unless you have an allergy or intolerance diagnosed through established, proven methods)
❌Loosing weight
Hell, it doesn't even mean you have to cook for yourself every single day!
It does mean:
✅ Learning to listen to your body and meeting it's needs
✅ Prioritising your own needs alongside those of your horse

🧥Did you know layers of clothing act as an insulator, so your jacket may look pretty but it may impact on your bodies ability to maintain your temperature by interfering with some of the key mechanisms of heat loss. It can
🥵 prevent sweat from evaporating (our main method of loosing heat when exercising in hot environments)
🍃 impact on loss of heat to the surrounding cooler air or through touching cooler objects
🏈 In other sports where athletes are covered/wearing significant padding, such as American football and motorsports, higher core temperature and sweat rates are seen.
🌡️Why does this matter? Not only can elevated core temperature can impair performance it also increases the risk of exertional heat stress.
So let's normalize riding without a jacket when they are waived or not required!

Holes in your nutrition and hydration can negatively impact on your energy levels, concentration, reactions and mood.
