Unique "Saddle Bag" Hand Bag available: Perfect for the Horse Lover

This glorious hand bag has been made from a repurposed Stock Saddle.

The flap, front and back of this bag have been made using the original inner and outer flaps of the saddle. On the flap - a brass bit accentuates the original tooling decoration from the original saddle flap.

Inside, the luxurious feel of new Kersey Check wool lining in keeping with the original purpose of being a quality saddle.

All carefully and skilfully hand stitched and put together to make this unique one of a kind hand bag.

Come on down Sunday to Dayboro Day.

We will be there to come meet me and some of the other Dayboro Leather Collective craftspeople behind our group.

Dayboro Day is a full day packed of Family Fun activities, food, entertainment and community spirit.

It's the biggest day of the year for our little town! Members of Dayboro Leather Collective will have a marquee outside our home base at the Butter Factory end of town.

This is a great opportunity to meet the makers, find out more about what we do, ask your questions about leatherwork, and maybe see some work in progress!

This Sunday is "Dayboro Day" - a festival involving the whole street.

Come and meet some of the leather artists/makers at Dayboro Leather Collective at Bohemian Decor in Williams Street as part of the Dayboro Day celebrations.

There will also be plenty of stalls, entertainment, and arts for the whole family to enjoy.

Another dragon bag completed and available for purchase.

It is made from full grain Italian leather. Hand stitched and lined with black pig suede, giving the interior of the bag a soft luxurious feel.

The dragon is also Italian leather and embellished with metallic highlights.

Finished the handle today. The timber in this Handle is Australian Hardwood. Given to me by the Legendary Dene Williams before he died.

12 Strand, 6 Foot Australian Kangaroo Stockwhip.

As a leather planter, there are a couple of items that are right up there in skill. The Australian Kangaroo Stockwhip is one of them.

This is my first time attempting to make any Stockwhip. A big thankyou to my mentor on this project, Geoff Moore for supervising and guiding me in this project.

There were many heart in mouth moments, one of the biggest was hand cutting this out myself.

Here at the Toowoomba Royal Show and under the help of Bill Glasgow, the plaiting of the whip has finally been completed.

Thankyou to all the men at the Australian Whip Plaiters Association for you support, help and guidance in this project. You all are such a great bunch of people.

I just now have to finish the handle and attach the whip.

This has been my procrastination project to make a stock whip to say “I’ve done it”.

Kangaroo Stockwhip project.

This has been ongoing for a few years now. I call it my procrastination project.

Well yesterday, it made it that little bit closer to being finished.

It has been hand cut by me and plaited by me. Not something for the feint hearted. I haven’t made a red hide whip or similar before undertaking this project.

A project as a leather plaiter that is kind of pinnacle to the trade. A project to say “I’ve done it”.

It won’t be a product line, but a signature piece that I can can say “I’ve done it.”

We’re up to dropping strands from 12 to 10 then down to 8 before adding the fall and crack.

Another Dragon Bag done. This one for a customer in NSW.

Made from full grain Italian and Australian leathers, lined with black suede and all the bag is all hand stitched. Shoulder strap, machine stitched.

Saddle bag finished. This bag used to be a stock saddle. Broken down, cleaned and repurposed with fresh leather gusset and lined with wool kersey check in keeping to the original purpose.

It is all hand stitched.

Made from premium Italian full grain leather, lined with pig suede and 100% hand cut and stitched by me.

I can make more of these bags in a range of colour combinations. They take about a week to cut and hand stitch up (longer if I need to order in leather to the desired colours).
