βΌοΈ PARVOVIRUS OUTBREAK βΌοΈ
There is currently a Parvovirus outbreak in the Springfield and Ipswich area.
Our veterinary team has diagnosed more than 10 cases recently, with other vets in the area reporting to have diagnosed up to 5 cases per day.
This virus is highly contagious, aggressive and when left untreated is deadly. Treatment is expensive (costing an average $3000-$6000) with only a 75% survival rate.
Parvovirus in spread through contaminated faeces which most dogs come into contact with in public areas. We do not recommend walking any unvaccinated adult dogs or puppies until you have been told it is safe by your veterinary team.
Symptoms of this virus include;
π¦ Vomiting and Diarrhoea
π¦ Lethargy
π¦ Inappetence
π¦ Abdominal Pain
If your adult dog has not received a vaccination in the last 12 months, or your puppy did not receive all three of their vaccinations (8 weeks old, 12 weeks old, 16 weeks old) then they are not protected against Parvovirus.
Please call our team if you require a booking, are unsure of your dogs vaccination status or have any questions πΎ
