Good morning friends,

Over the past few years, we have been working hard building and improving our little business. We thought you might like to know a bit more about us and what we do!

Did you know?

* We live in Steels Creek in the beautiful Yarra Valley

* We have 7( yes seven ) children between us.

* We are lovers of all things family, friends and farming, our animals, horses, gardening, making beautiful things and enjoying the great outdoors.

* We started off with Isa Browns many moons ago when our children were little.

* I wanted pretty chickens, so we invested in our first Light Sussex.

* We then moved to Belgian d'Uccles and they are a love affair. We inherited our foundation flock from a lovely friend. He introduced us to these little beauties and we are eternally grateful for his guidance and expertise.

* Chookala is family run, yes my husband is all-round awesome, builds all our chooken stuff and lifts heavy things. We do it all ourselves!

* Our chookens are Queens, we them like royalty and pride ourselves on providing healthy, happy, well-adjusted chookens.

* We do cool stuff....We also sell our beautiful bio-dynamic and standard rice hulls from our farm gate. We are always working on a project!

* We are always learning, we have a wealth of information and years of experience surrounding us- how lucky are we! If you need advice, guidance or a sympathetic crazy chicken lady ear, we are the people for you.

Surgery went well, they are very happy and relived it was straight forward.

Pretty bizarre it managed to lodge itself right in to the muscle on the bone

I’m here until Tuesday, being lazy and enjoying being metal free and fed every 3 hours !!!!

Brooder setup basics

* lined with disposable puppy pads for first week.

* draught free but with adequate ventilation.

* rice hulls on base- self insulating, mite reducing, draws moisture down and away

* Brinsea brooder plate- we are moving away from traditional heat lamps, these are more economical, a more natural heat source and the babies love them.
