🐾 Maple's Big Bone Adventure 🐾

Meet Maple, our brave 13-week-old Poodle mix who gave the team at AEC Woolloongabba quite the scare this weekend! This little adventurer managed to swallow an entire lamb bone - about half her body length! 😱
We immediately admitted Maple for emergency surgery, deeply concerned about potential stomach perforation. But sometimes miracles happen in veterinary medicine! When we opened her up, we discovered her stomach was remarkably intact with no significant damage.
The surgery went smoothly, the bone was successfully removed, and our sweet Maple is now back home with her grateful family! 🏠💕
This is a perfect reminder to keep a close eye on what our curious puppies get into. Maple's story had a happy ending, but bones can be extremely dangerous for our furry friends.
Welcome to the world, little Maple - may your future adventures be much safer! ❤️

🐾 ❤️ Meet Pip ❤️ 🐾
Pip was a recent visitor to AEC Woolloongabba after her owner had found she ingested 25g of rat bait.
As rat baits are an anticoagulant, left untreated Pip’s blood may have stopped clotting which could lead to life-threatening bleeding.
However, Pip’s owners acted quickly & got her to us. We induced emesis & had her empty her tummy, with very brightly coloured results 🤮
Pip went home that evening, quite happy with herself, completely unaware of the worry she had caused her owner.

❤️ AEC Woolloongabba needs your old newspapers please ❤️
As cute as it may be, its not for the dogs to read, its to line the cages of our wildlife ward for the many native creatures we see at the clinic & that have a little stay with us until they can be collected by the wildlife ambulance.
If you have any newspapers lying around please bring them to the clinic at 14 Cleveland Street, Stones Corner any time 24/7.

AEC Woolloongabba has recently hosted nurses from all over SEQLD to share their knowledge on CPR.
Two of our nurse managers, Kirstie & Paula, happily shared what they have learned over their careers about emergency response & CPR.
Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves & got plenty of practical experience on our CPR dummies.

Severe flooding in parts of NSW has triggered a range of emergency supports, including an update on funding arrangements for veterinarians. 👇

• Vet Funding: DPIRD - AASFA will be providing funding to private veterinarians via issuing Task Request Numbers to facilitate emergency animal assessment and treatment for a condition that is as a direct result of the disaster event. Private vets can access up to $10,000 initially for emergency treatments related to flood impacts.

• Emergency Hotline: Call 1800 814 647 for animal assessment, emergency treatment, fodder, water, and advice from NSW Department of Primary Industries.

• Support: AVA Liaison Officer Liz Gemes at [email protected]. The AVA Veterinary Benevolent Fund and counselling (1300 687 327) are also available or AVA Member Services at [email protected]

🐾❤️This is the face of regrets!❤️🐾
Poor Indie presented to AEC Woolloongabba after eating nearly 300g of left-over Easter eggs.
As this amount of chocolate was going to be quite a problem for little Indie, we had no choice but to induce emesis to empty her tummy.
The moral of the story is… keep your dog safe by eating all the chocolate!
Best excuse ever!

🩸 AEC Woolloongabba needed the services of one of our regular VIP’s this week, for a blood donation 🩸
Ruairi answered the call & helped us save a life again.
His gentle giant nature has him a favourite with the team & we make sure he gets lots of love & treats while he is with us. Here nurse Paula holds him still while Dr Naomi examines him to ensure he is in great health before the donation.
He also goes home with a $100 Petbarn voucher to ensure he is suitably spoiled.
If you would like to see if your dog can join our blood donor program, check out the criteria below & then give us a call on 3456 0500.
