First of the season is a white-faced lutino like our baby Kirin 😍
These guys actually laid 6 eggs but only 1 ended up fertile. They're part of a 4-group poly (1 female, 3 males) in which 2 of the males mate with the girl. This is pretty handy since we get the feeling the older male is infertile (but he and the girl were originally bonded, so they're kept together).
Fingers crossed for this little one!

I've got a new home! :)

Hello! My name is Piper and I'm looking for a new home. I believe I'm about 2 years old. I was surrendered because I had two boy cockatiels who would bully and pluck me!

I'm hand-raised and a very sweet girl. However, like most hand-raised female cockatiels, I don't really like getting scritches unless it's on my terms.

I'm a very good eater and love pellets! I believe I would be best suited to someone with older children who understand boundaries, or an older couple who is looking for a quiet friend, preferably being the only bird in the home.
The only loud noises I tend to make are the normal flock calls for when you leave the room without me.

Piper does not come with a cage. And remember, the bigger the cage, the better!
Female cockatiels are very good for people with noise sensitivity.

No. You don't get it. Kirin keeps scratching himself with his missing leg. It's creepy af. He hasn't had that leg for almost a year now. Why does he keep scratching himself with it 😭 😂

FINALLY

So I've been super inactive on here, mostly because we've not been doing any breeding this season and because we've been busy with something exciting.

Our big shed aviaries are done!
All have been hand-built by my partner, Stephen. The birds really seem to love it. Next task is getting and making some toys for them! For now, they've sure had a go at shredding their perches and gum leaves 😆

We plan on opening to the public via appointment for a walk in soon! We just need to tidy up the inside to make it more accessable in places.
It should be wheelchair accessible, there's just the slight raise to get into the shed, then the walkway is about 1.2m wide. Sorry if it isn't 😭 we wanted to give the birds as much space as possible.

Thanks to everyone who has supported us along the way! It has been incredibly stressful, but it's so nice seeing our babies have a lot of room to flap and mess about. If all goes well, we should be breeding next season 🙌

One aviary set up, seven more to go. Just some basic stuff in there for the time being. We plan on getting swings, ladders and other toys later.

We're wanting to get rope. Thinking something like h**p so it's more natural for them (in the case they start chewing at it, which is bound to happen). Where do you guys get your natural toys and rope from?

Unfortunately we've been unable to find a suitable male for her to mate with, so we'll most likely not have any little ones this season. Sorry

Our zebra finches want babies.
And I might just steal the babies from them at some stage, if the eggs are fertile...

Roxy waving goodnight

Caiques are awesome! At the start of the video, you can see Hades walking over to a plant that is probably not safe for him to chew on. We've found the best way to get him off stuff he shouldn't be messing with is by turning it into a game. You can see I gently hold and push him off the plant and roll him over, rather than straight up grabbing and upsetting him. Caiques can be very protective of their food and toys, and even the tamest ones can throw a tantrum and end up biting you quite hard!

Outside time with the monster

The only bird of ours that I trust being outside without a harness. Since Hades lives outside in an aviary, he knows what our yard looks like. He's actually managed to escape through a hole chewed by the galahs before one night. He was sitting in one of our trees, and flew right down to me when he saw me. I would only let him outside without a harness at our place, since he knows where everything is. This was just a quick play in the grass before bringing him inside for cuddles. If you ever take your bird/s outside, it's important to keep an eye out for your surroundings, and watch your bird's body language. Thankfully Hades doesn't get spooked by chickens, so the little curiosity-pecks that Felyne gave him didn't scare him (nor hurt)

People who are waiting for replies: I've been naughty and accidentally changed my sleep schedule to that of a vampire. Don't worry, I will get to you as soon as my eyes stay open for long enough 😂
